Chapter 53
Chapter 53
Early Saturday morning, Annette was barely awake when her phone began to ring.
She thought it was the alarm clock, so she reached out and stopped her phone from ringing.
Yet a few minutes later, her phone rang again.
She opened her eyes and grabbed the phone. It was a call from Marcus.
She picked up the phone and heard Marcus' voice.
"Luna Annette, why did you hang up on me? Are you still asleep?"
She thought, 'Luna Annette?
What a harsh address.'
"Marcus, I am not Connor's mate."
"It's fine. When will you be here?" Marcus continued.
Annette frowned and asked, "Where?"
"We're all going to the suburbs today. I'm sure Connor told you, right?" Marcus said.
Annette was stunned. She had forgotten all about it.
"You guys go ahead. I have other things to do today." Annette wanted to have a nice rest at home.
"Everything can wait. Connor and I will pick you up on the way. Wait for us at home."
After Marcus finished speaking, he hung up the phone.
Annette was speechless and thought, 'Since when did he start to act on his own?'
She rubbed her long hair in frustration. Having no choice, she could only get out of bed and freshen up.
Just after she finished her breakfast, her phone rang again.
"Get down. I'm waiting for you downstairs," Connor said.
"Do you mind if I skip it?"
Connor's voice was calm as he said, "Are you coming down yourself, or shall I go up and carry you down?"
After hanging up the phone, Annette carried her bag downstairs.
She got into the car and asked, "Can we come back early this afternoon? I've got to wash my sheets and covers today."
"We are not coming back today," Connor said.
Annette was stunned for a second. "What do you mean by that?"
"It's going to be a trip for two days plus one night."
"Why didn't you tell me earlier?" Annette was anxious.
"I told you to clear your schedule for the entire weekend."
Annette said in frustration, "Turn around. I want to go home."
"It's too late."
"But I didn't pack up anything. I came out with nothing but a bag."
"What else do you need? It's only going to be two days and one night. Don't tell me that you want to carry the entire home together with you," Connor said disapprovingly.
Annette felt like being threatened.
Connor drove an hour and a half to the resort outside Akron.
As soon as he stopped the car, two lines of waiters greeted him respectfully.
He reached out to hold Annette's hand and walked to the detached villa by the lake under the surprised gazes.
Annette tilted her head to look at him. She asked in a low voice, "Aren't you here for a retreat? Is this really necessary?"
The corners of his mouth turned up and he said, "Why do you think customers pay so much for a night here? We are here to enjoy the air as well as the service."
As Connor and Annette spoke, they had already arrived at the villa by the lake.
Lucas and Marcus were fishing by the lake.
Alina sat between them.
Hearing Connor and Annette's footsteps, they turned around.
Marcus beckoned to Connor and Annette. "Connor, Annette, over here. Lucas and I are having a fishing competition."
Connor took Annette's hand and walked over.
Alina looked at Connor and Annette's interlocked hands, paused briefly, and then looked away.
Annette nodded at them and said, "Lucas, Ms. Grace."
Alina stood up and smiled at Annette, "Ms. Hall."
"Nice to meet you. I'm sorry if we are interrupting," Annette said politely.
Alina and Annette stopped exchanging pleasantries. Alina turned to look at Connor and asked, "Connor, you want to go fishing?"
Connor asked, "Didn't Marcus say they were competing with each other? What's the prize for the winner?"
"Whoever wins gets to pick the room first," Marcus said with a smile. "I'm representing you, Connor, and I'm alone. It doesn't matter where I live."
Connor said disdainfully, "No need. I will do it myself."
Alina said to Annette, "Ms. Hall, why don't you sit with me for a while?"
Yet Connor held Annette's hand and said, "No way. She has to sit next to me. She is my lucky charm."
Marcus whistled.
Annette poked Connor's head shyly and said, "Stop it."
Alina bit her lip and took a few steps back to sit in her chair.
Connor sat down and pulled Annette's stool beside him.
Annette sat down awkwardly.
At first, Annette was planning to watch him lose. But somehow, though Connor came late, he managed to be the first to catch a fish.
He won.
Marcus was speechless. Then he said, "What the heck, Connor? Does the fish know you are the Alpha?"
Lucas was willing to admit defeat. He smiled and said, "Well, Connor has his lucky charm right beside him after all."
Marcus looked at Annette and said, "Annette, come and sit with me for a while."
Connor got up and said to Annette, "Let's go and pick a room."
Annette was a bit reluctant. Marcus waved at her and said, "Luna Annette, go ahead."
Annette hated being called that way.
After nodding at Lucas and Alina, Annette followed Connor into the villa.
Annette and Connor checked all the rooms from the first floor to the third. Then Connor asked her, "Well? Which room do you prefer?"
He opened the door to the room in front of him after speaking. Then he continued, "How about this one? You get to enjoy the view from here. See? The lake and the mountains are so beautiful. Most of all, the bed is huge."
Annette walked inside, took a look, and exclaimed, "Now I get why everyone is striving to be rich. The view is stunning."
"It seems that you like it very much. Alright then. We'll be staying in this room tonight."
After Connor finished, Annette turned to look at him from the window and asked, "We?"
He said calmly, "That's right. We."
"There are so many rooms here. Are you telling me that you and I are going to share a room?"
"Am I supposed to tell them that my woman and I will be staying in separate rooms on the trip?"
"I'm not your woman!" Annette looked unhappy.
"You are not my woman? Have you forgotten who was your first man?" Connor said.
Annette stomped her foot. "I can't believe you are bringing this up again!"
Seeing how annoyed and embarrassed she was, Connor chuckled. "Then it's settled."
