Chapter 40

　　After Connor left the room, Annette changed her clothes and went out.

　　When she went downstairs, she felt that the members of the Blood Moon Pack were looking at her strangely.

　　Standing in the living room, Annette raised her wrist to look at the watch. She exclaimed, "I'm going to be late! I have to hurry to the company right now."

　　"After breakfast, I will take you there. Before we go, we have something to do," Connor said.

　　Annette did not say more and finished the meal quietly.

　　When they were going out, Connor seemed to think of something. He pointed to the crystal ball on the table and said, "Don't you need to bring your magic ball?"

　　Annette did get his point and asked, "What do you mean?"

　　Connor shook his head and smiled. He turned and walked out.

　　Annette wondered what he meant.

　　She went to the courtyard. Seeing that several people were planting trees, she was even more curious.

　　The courtyard looked great with all kinds of plants. Why were they planting a tree?

　　Connor turned to look at her and said, "I planted your family here. If you miss it in the future, you can come and see it anytime."

　　"What?" Annette was stunned again.

　　Connor held back his laughter and looked at her. "What? Don't you think this tree looks familiar?"

　　Annette looked at him in confusion and asked, "What are you talking about?"

　　Connor smiled and said, "Forget it. You'd better not know it. Let's go."

　　He got in the car, while Annette was a little worried. "We shouldn't go to work together."

　　"You only have two choices now. First, you'll be late for work. Second, take my car and get to work on time."

　　Annette was always punctual. Without saying anything, she opened the door and got in the car.

　　It was quiet in the car. Annette enjoyed the scenery outside the window.

　　When they passed by a street, Annette saw a tree on the roadside.

　　A terrible scene suddenly flashed through her mind...

　　"OMG!" She exclaimed.

　　Connor looked at her and asked, "What's wrong?"

　　"That tree... And the tree in your courtyard..."

　　"You remember what happened?" Connor said, "I still remember it clearly. Last night, you held it tightly and were unwilling to let it go, so I promised you to take it home. This morning, I kept my word and asked someone to bring the tree back. Don't have to thank me. Anyway, you were the boss because you were drunk."

　　Annette closed her eyes and felt ashamed.

　　Connor was amused by her reaction.

　　A few minutes later, the car was about to reach the Noman Group.

　　Annette insisted on getting off at an intersection near the company.

　　After getting out of the car, she trotted all the way to the company.

　　Although she was not late, she found out after entering the office that she was the last one to come.

　　Annette walked to her seat with a guilty conscience and eased her breathing. Then, she began to look through the documents.

　　She felt a little tired and was about to get a cup of coffee in the break room. Just as she walked to the door, she heard the discussion inside.

　　"It's her."

　　"Maybe not."

　　"Didn't you see the clothes on her? That's the latest design by Dior and was just released a week ago. I can't be wrong about it."

　　"That's right. How can a newly graduated student afford such clothes? She must be his lover."

　　"Yes, you are right."

　　Annette pushed the door open and walked in. People inside immediately fell silent when they saw her.

　　Annette smiled politely at them, got a cup of coffee, and left.

　　When she returned to her seat, her cell phone rang.

　　Seeing that it was Austin, she ignored it and did not answer.

　　At noon, people left one after another.

　　Catherine, who was recruited as a part-time lecturer as Annette, walked over.

　　"Annette, shall we have lunch together?"

　　Annette closed the document and said, "Sure."

　　They went downstairs to the cafeteria together. Annette's phone rang.

　　She said to Catherine, "I'm going to pick up a call."

　　She walked aside, picked up the phone, and said in a low voice, "Hello."

　　"When do you get off work?" Connor asked. "Where's my lunch?"

　　"I didn't have time to cook this morning. You know about it," Annette quickly said.

　　"So you mean you won't prepare lunch for me?" Connor asked.

　　Annette said resignedly, "I told you I don't have time to cook. I'm going to get my lunch."

　　After that, she hung up the phone. She took her food and sat down with Catherine.

　　Catherine smiled, "This is the first time I've seen a rich person eat sandwiches. When I asked you to have lunch with me, I was worried that you would refuse me. I didn't expect you to be so easy to get along with."

　　"Rich person?" Annette was puzzled and asked, "Are you talking about me?"

　　"Yes."

　　Annette smiled awkwardly. "I'm not a rich person. I'm rich but short of money."

　　"You like to joke?" Catherine said with a smile.

　　Annette explained quickly, "I'm not joking. I'm just curious. Why did you have such an idea about me?"

　　"You wear Dior! If you say you are poor, I'll have to describe myself as a beggar." Catherine shrugged.

　　Annette lowered her head to look at her clothes. She wondered if the clothes Connor bought her were from some famous brand.

　　She put them on without thinking, and she knew little about luxury brands.

　　"This is a fake one," she said calmly.

　　Catherine looked at her in disbelief and asked, "Really?"

　　Annette smiled, "Why would I lie to you?"

　　Catherine was skeptical and did not say anything.

　　After lunch, they went upstairs together.

　　People in the office were chatting together. Seeing Annette and Catherine coming back, someone stopped talking and looked at them.

　　Catherine rushed back to her desk.

　　Annette ignored them. She picked up her phone and dialed Roxanne's number.

　　"What happened last night?" Annette asked.

　　"I don't know. Wait a minute. Let's not talk about this. Your brother is so handsome. Does he have a destined one?" Roxanne said excitedly.

　　"Wait, Roxanne. Make it clear to me," Annette said doubtfully.

　　"Don't you know who sent you home last night?"
