His Hybrid Mate

Chapter 259

Chapter 259

Lucas turned his wheelchair and looked at Connor with cold eyes.

Connor said, "Annette was also there when the accident happened. I won't just believe Alina's words."

Alina raised her hand to cover her eyes and said, "I don't want to argue with you. I'm in a lot of pain right now. Can you please let me be alone for a while? I'm begging you."

  Marcus quickly pulled Connor away.

Annette returned home and felt anxious.

She lay in bed, unable to sleep.

At almost eleven o'clock, Connor finally came back.

Annette immediately sat up from the bed as the door opened.

Connor rubbed her head and asked, "Why are you still up?"

"How is Alina? And the baby?"

Connor sat down by the bed, and after a moment of silence, he said, "She is fine, but the baby is gone."

Annette furrowed her brow and asked softly, "What did she say?"

  "Nothing. Just go to sleep."

Annette said, "She must have said something."

"It's late. Get some sleep for our baby, OK?"

"Connor," Annette frowned and said, "Alina must have said something. Why don't you tell me?"

Connor hugged her and comforted her, "Alina said you didn't mean it. You didn't push her so hard, and she fell because she lost her balance."

Annette's heart was filled with coldness all of a sudden.

She broke free from Connor's embrace and said to him in confusion, "I wasn't me. I didn't push her."

She shook her head firmly and said, "I didn't even touch her. She fell deliberately. I swear to the Moon Goddess that I'm telling the truth."

Connor held Annette's shoulders and said, "Just calm down. I believe you. I know you've been unhappy with Alina lately, but I know you. You knew she was pregnant and you wouldn't push her."

  Annette cried.

She rarely cried, but this time, she couldn't hold back.

She choked and said, "I was really scared when she grabbed Marcus's arm and said her belly hurt. I was afraid that she'd say I pushed her and that no one would believe me. I don't know what to do. Connor, do you have any idea how hard these last few hours have been for me?"

  "It's OK now."

"How can it be OK? After I left the hospital, I returned to that restaurant to check the surveillance footage. However, the manager said that the surveillance camera was broken. Connor, I have no way to prove that I'm innocent."

Connor kissed Annette on the forehead and said softly, "I trust you, and you need to trust me too. Don't cry, Ann. It hurts to see you cry."

Annette raised her hand and wiped the tears from the corner of her eye with the back of her hand.

Connor grabbed her hand and asked eagerly, "What happened to your hand?"

Annette looked down and saw the cut on her palm from the broken glasses. She tried to hide it.

But Connor held her hand tightly and refused to let go. He asked, "What happened to your hand?"

"After Alina was taken away by Marcus, I fell and my hand was cut by the broken glasses on the ground."

Connor furrowed his brow in concern.

"Why didn't you treat the wound?" he said while thinking about calling the servant over.

Annette said, "Don't worry. With you here, my wound will heal quickly."

Connor sighed. He got up and walked out of the room.

He returned with a first aid kit and then cleaned Annette's wound.

He was very gentle in cleaning her wound, and Annette's eyes were filled with tears.

She knew that the problem caused by Alina's accident wouldn't go away easily.

After all, Alina lost her baby.

Annette suddenly said, "Alina said she regretted it. She said she wanted you to look for a mate before. But later, when your mate really appeared, she was in pain every day."

Connor said while cleaning her wound, "That's enough."

Annette lowered her eyes and choked. "I never thought that I would cause such pain to a woman."

"It has nothing to do with you. Annette, look at me," Connor said affectionately to Annette, "Alina is in pain because of me, not you. So, don't blame yourself anymore."

Annette hung her head, and couldn't think straight.

Looking at her dejected face, Connor felt sorry and asked, "What's bothering you?"

"I'm worried that your relationship with Lucas will get worse."

"I will always be by your side. Just leave it to me."

Annette looked at Connor and nodded.

The next day, Lucas came early in the morning.

He sat in his wheelchair, and everyone could feel his anger.

Connor asked Dwayne and all the servants to leave them.

Connor and Annette had just finished breakfast, and there were only three of them in the living room.

Connor turned to Annette and said, "Go back to the room for some rest, OK?"

  Lucas said, "She can't leave."

  Annette didn't move.

Lucas raised his hand and pointed at Annette. "Are you ready to pay with your life for the murder of my baby?"

  "Lucas," Connor's tone was solemn.

Lucas said, "Connor, are you still trying to protect her?"

Annette didn't back down, she stood up and said, "I know you won't believe me. But, I had nothing to do with Alina's accident."

Connor pulled Annette behind him and confronted Lucas. "You believe Alina, but I believe Annette. If I was as irrational as you, you wouldn't have had the chance to be here today!"
