Chapter 258
Chapter 258
Soon, the light outside the operating room was off and the doctor walked out. Lucas asked anxiously, "Doctor, how is Alina? And the baby?"
"She is OK, but the baby... I'm sorry, but we did our best."
Lucas angrily shouted, "What do you mean? What do you mean by that? I need you to save both of them!"
"I'm so sorry."
The medical staff left.
Marcus stepped forward and said, "Lucas, I'm sorry, it's all my fault. If I hadn't asked Alina out..."
Lucas roared, "Marcus, have you lost your mind? Who gave you the right to arrange a meeting between Alina and that woman from Black Thorn Pack? Are you happy now?"
Marcus explained, "It was Alina who came to me first. She said she wanted to talk to Annette alone and clear up any misunderstandings between them, so I called Annette out. I really didn't expect things to go wrong."
Connor said, "Lucas, it's not the time to blame Marcus now. Now we..."
"You shut up. Connor, you had no right to speak. If it weren't for you insisting on being with Annette, nothing would have happened. Do you know how long I've been looking forward to being a dad?"
"This has nothing to do with Annette," Connor said angrily. "Don't blame everything on her. She would never do such a thing."
"Enough, Connor. You are insane. My first child died. I'm telling you. I would not spare her if I found out that she had something to do with it."
Connor's eyes darkened and he spoke firmly, "Alina lost her child, and I feel sorry for her. But as I said, it has nothing to do with Annette."
Marcus saw that Connor and Lucas were about to fight, so he quickly grabbed Connor.
"Connor, that's enough. Lucas is in a bad mood and whatever you say won't make a difference."
Connor and Lucas stared at each other. Marcus pulled Connor away from the operating room door.
They went downstairs.
Connor asked Marcus, "Did you really not see anything?"
"I went out for a while," Marcus regretted deeply and said in frustration. "At that time, Alina told me that as soon as Annette arrived at the restaurant, I should find an excuse to go out for a while because she wanted to talk to Alina alone. When I came back, Alina had already had an accident. Connor, I'm sorry, I really didn't expect anything like that to happen."
Connor patted Marcus on the shoulder, but he didn't look relaxed.
"This had nothing to do with you."
Marcus was worried. "If it really was Annette..."
Connor's gaze sharpened.
Marcus immediately said, "Connor, I'm not suspecting Annette. It's just that when Annette came to the restaurant and saw Alina, she looked hostile. When I left, I was worried that they would have an unpleasant conversation."
Connor repeated, "This had nothing to do with Annette."
"Connor, how could you be so sure?"
Connor's gaze fell on Marcus's face and he said firmly, "If I can't even trust my mate, then I am not qualified to say I love her."
Marcus was a bit surprised. He had never thought that the aloof Connor could be so gentle with a woman.
Connor asked, "Do you think Annette is a cruel woman?"
Marcus shook his head and said, "Of course not."
"Then you shouldn't doubt her. Be careful with your speculations. It may ruin a person."
Marcus immediately nodded and said, "I got it. But Lucas wouldn't listen to you."
"He has to accept the fact."
"Connor, Lucas had just lost his child. His mood was definitely not good and he may have been a bit extreme. I hope you can be more tolerant of him. I don't want to see you two argue."
Connor patted Marcus on the shoulder and said, "I will do my best. Go upstairs and stay with him."
"What about you?"
"I'll have a cigarette before going up."
"Okay then. I'll go check on Lucas."
Half an hour had passed when Connor went upstairs again.
Marcus called him and Connor came to the hospital room.
When Connor entered, Alina was crying.
Lucas turned angrily towards Connor, then looked back at Alina. He asked softly, "Tell me, what exactly happened?"
Alina closed her eyes and didn't look at anyone.
Lucas said, "Did Annette push you? Weren't you and Annette the only ones there at the time? Alina, if she really did something to you, I won't let her get away with it."
"What could you do?" Alina suddenly opened her eyes and roared angrily. She looked at Lucas and shouted, "It's not like she did it on purpose!"
Lucas's eyes were filled with anger. "Was it her?"
Marcus was stunned and didn't know what to say.
Connor said, "Alina, you'd better think twice before speaking."
Alina's face was full of tears as she looked at Connor.
"You can just assume that I'm lying."
"Alina," Lucas trembled with anger. "My child is gone. I have the right to know the truth."
Alina took a deep breath and then said, "It was my fault. I didn't realize that Ms. Hall misunderstood me so much. When she pushed me, I lost my balance."
Her hand touched her belly and she said sorrowfully, "I'm sorry, baby."
Lucas clenched his fists. He said while grinding his teeth, "Did she push you?"
Alina shook her head hastily and said, "She didn't mean it. Lucas, it's all my fault. I beg you, just let it go."
