Chapter 252
Chapter 252
As she saw Annette, Alina quickly stepped back from Connor. Then, she pretended to look flustered and turned her gaze toward Annette.
"Ms. Hall, you're back."
Annette looked at Connor with a cold expression, then turned her gaze to Alina, who looked uneasy. "Alina, it's getting late. Aren't you going back?"
Annette's purpose was simple. She wanted to remind Alina who she was married to.
Alina walked up to Annette and said, "Ms. Hall, actually I came to see you, but Connor said you were out. I thought you would come back very late."
"Why are you looking for me so late?" Annette's tone was not friendly.
Alina smiled and said, "I have an appointment with a baby clothing designer from France. His assistant sent me a design catalog. I was wondering if you want to take a look as well."
With a false smile, Annette nodded and said, "Sure. Thank you."
She walked towards the sofa and said, "Let's sit down and take a look together."
Alina's attitude changed. She refused, "It's too late today. How about tomorrow morning?"
Annette pursed her lips and said, "Okay."
"Then I'll go back first."
Alina glanced at Connor and turned around to leave.
After Alina left, Annette sat on the sofa without moving.
Connor walked over and sat down next to her and said, "Just now, I thought you had forgotten the right time to get home."
Annette said unhappily, "If I had known I would be interrupting your date with your ex, I would have come back later."
Connor placed his hand on her shoulder and said softly, "If I told you that I just came out of the study less than three minutes ago, would you believe me?"
"What do you think?"
Connor's eyes widened and said, "You will."
Annette pushed away the hand that Connor had placed on her shoulder.
"Liar," she murmured. She picked up the remote and turned on the TV.
Connor didn't want to become a liar in Annette's eyes because of Alina.
He turned around and looked at Annette seriously. "I had just come out of the study when she came in. She asked me if you were home. I said no. She said she wanted to wait for you. I said it was very late and she should go. The next second, you walked in."
Annette remained silent.
"Really," Connor said helplessly. "I promised that I would never lie to you."
Annette turned to him and asked, "She got nervous when she saw me just now, like you two did something wrong."
"How do I know what she's thinking?"
Annette was unhappy.
She thought, 'Alina's purpose must not be that simple.'
She said she came to find me to choose clothes for her child, but why didn't she even bring the catalog?'
Annette's impression of Alina was getting worse.
However, Connor's attitude was sincere. Annette didn't want to argue with him, especially because of Alina. Maybe that was Alina's intention.
Annette stood up and said, "I'm tired. I'm going upstairs to sleep."
Annette was not mad, and she was really tired. Today was her first day back to work after the holiday. Although most of the students hadn't returned to school yet, she had a lot of work to do.
She went upstairs to take a shower, and when she came out, she saw Connor lying on the bed. Connor lifted the covers and said, "Come here."
Annette shuddered involuntarily.
She walked to the bedside and saw Connor looking at her with bright eyes. She asked, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
She came back before curfew tonight, so she wasn't worried that Connor would do anything to her.
Connor flipped over and pinned Annette down.
Annette said, "I came back before 8:30."
"I know."
"What are you doing now?"
Connor leaned over and whispered in a seductive voice, "I never said I'd let you off the hook for coming back on time."
Annette decided that she would no longer reason with Connor in the future.
Before she could even speak, Connor had already kissed her.
The next afternoon after work, Annette had just arrived home when Dwayne, standing in the yard, approached her and said, "Luna, Ms. Grace is here."
Annette glanced into the room and asked, "When did she come?"
"She came an hour ago. She has been waiting for you."
"Okay, I'll go in now."
Annette walked into the room.
Alina saw her and said without any expression on her face, "I have been waiting for you for a long time."
Annette placed the bag on the table and said, "Alina, if I am going to meet someone, I will call them first to confirm the time and location. So, if you don't want to waste your time next time, you'd better call me first."
Alina understood what she meant, but she still said, "I remember you should have finished work an hour ago, so I came early to wait for you. Ms. Hall, you really have a busy life."
Although it was not necessary to explain, Annette did not want to lose.
She sat down on the sofa with a blank expression and said, "School just started and I have a lot of work to do. But you probably wouldn't understand. After all, you don't have a job and don't know the joys and difficulties of the workplace."
Annette and Alina's gazes met.
"Since you brought up this matter, I would like to remind you."
Annette shrugged.
"Ms. Hall, you are now Connor's mate. Don't you think your current job is not matching his position?"
Annette didn't expect Alina to say that.
"Why should I quit my job?"
Alina smiled and said, "For an ordinary person, being a student instructor is a decent job. But, Ms. Hall, you are Connor's mate, the Luna of the Blood Moon Pack."
Annette couldn't understand why Alina had those thoughts. She sneered and said, "Do I have to be like you, a person who only complains at home? Would that make me worthy of Connor? I don't get it."
"Ms. Hall," Alina shook her head, "what Connor needs is a Luna who can help him, not just a bed partner who only thinks about herself."
Annette was provoked by Alina's words. She took a deep breath and calmly asked, "What do you think the duties of a mate are?"
Alina thought she was right, so she said confidently, "As a mate, you should always care for him and stay by his side when he needs you. When he comes home every day, he should see you waiting for him at home."
Annette shook her head and laughed sarcastically.
Alina said a lot, but she didn't treat Lucas that way.
Her gaze remained fixed on someone else's mate.
"Are you saying that what I said is wrong?" Alina said unhappily.
"I cannot agree with your view on the responsibilities of a mate," Annette said firmly. "You mentioned care and attention, which can be done better by servants. However, a mate is someone who can share their feelings. No matter what happens, they will be there for each other. And, sex is part of a satisfying relationship."
Annette's words made Alina's face flush with anger.
She didn't expect Annette to say such disgusting words.
Alina's hands clenched. If it weren't for those accidents back then, Annette would never have been able to win Connor's love and be with him now.
