Chapter 241
Chapter 241
At lunchtime, Annette received a call from Sara.
She learned that Sara was at the police station. So, after she finished work, she asked Leonard to take her there.
Annette saw that Jennifer's father was still yelling at Sara and Zachary.
Sara walked to Annette and said, "You should come. I'm almost done here, and everything is fine."
"I was worried about you."
Annette walked to Zachary, who was arguing with Jennifer's parents, and called out to him, "Zachary."
Annette's presence made Jennifer's father even angrier and he shouted, "Well, well. Good for you. Is she another woman you're hooking up with?"
"Stop it. She is my friend, and she is married."
"I see. So, you're also interested in married women. How shameless you are!"
Annette turned to the police and said, "My name is Annette. I want to press charges against the man for slandering me. As for evidence, the surveillance cameras here should have recorded everything. If there are any problems, I will have the legal team from the Norman Group represent me."
"Okay."
Jennifer's father saw the police being respectful to Annette. He recalled what Jennifer had said about Zachary knowing the president of Norman Group and his girlfriend.
He was afraid and pointed at Sara. "Even if this woman isn't your lover, that woman is. So, you cheated on my daughter anyway."
Annette argued with him, "Your daughter had broken up with Zachary, and they were no longer in a relationship. So, Zachary can date whoever he wants."
"Oh yeah? Prove it! Jennifer and Zachary didn't break up! They are still a couple!"
Zachary let out a deep sigh. He was fed up with these groundless accusations.
He took out his phone, found the previous chat record with Jennifer, and handed it over to the police.
"This is the chat record between Jennifer and me. Jennifer was the one who wanted to break up with me. I tried to persuade her, but she was determined. But after that, she often sent me threatening messages."
The police officer took the phone and read the chat record. After that, he looked at Jennifer's father with a strange expression.
Jennifer's father didn't expect Zachary to keep the records and glared at him fiercely.
After the police took their statements, Zachary, Sara, and Annette left the police station.
Jennifer's parents were detained for hitting Zachary and Sara.
After leaving the police station, Annette looked at Zachary's face and said, "You can't let them keep doing this to you. You have a life to live."
Zachary patted Annette's shoulder and said, "I know. And thanks for helping me out. You should head back now."
Sara said to Annette, "May I have a word with him alone?"
Annette nodded and said, "Sure. I'll wait in the car."
Sara stood in front of Zachary and looked up at his face. "My name is Sara. And I have a younger sister. My mother has retired, and my father will retire in two years. My sister is currently studying in Europe and will work there in the future. My parents are nice and they love each other very much."
Zachary looked at Sara in confusion, not knowing why she said those things.
Sara extended her hand to him and said, "Let's get to know each other again. Even if we can't be a couple, we can be friends."
With a smile, Zachary nodded and shook hands with Sara.
Sara said after letting go of his hand, "Zachary, you should stand out for yourself and don't go easy on people who are mean to you."
"Okay."
"Got to go."
Sara waved goodbye to Zachary and walked toward Annette's car.
As the car drove away, Annette asked Sara with a smile, "What were you two whispering about? I saw you guys shake hands."
"I just reintroduced myself to him and said that I wanted us to be friends."
"Friend?"
Sara nodded at Annette and said, "I shouldn't push it. And I didn't consider his feelings. He was right. It's not time yet for him to start another relationship. So, I decided to go back to being his friend for now."
Annette gave Sara a thumbs up.
Sara sighed and said, "I don't know if he will be controlled by Jennifer again."
"I think he won't."
"Why?"
"Actually, Zachary kept the chat records of Jennifer proposing breakups with him all the time, but he didn't show it to others before. It means that he might still have had good intentions towards Jennifer. However, just now, Zachary handed the records to the police. I think it was because he was pushed to the limit, and he had to defend himself. Moreover, Jennifer's parents are detained at the police station because they beat Zachary. So, even if Jennifer wants to be with him again, her parents won't be happy about it since there is a grudge between them. I believe Zachary knows all that."
Sara found her words quite convincing.
Sara had no idea what the future held for Zachary and her.
She simply hoped that Zachary would be happy.
In the following days, Jennifer did not show up at the school gate anymore because she was hospitalized.
Sara texted Zachary every day.
Annette learned from Sara that after the incident at the police station, Zachary never visited Jennifer at the hospital again.
Zachary said that he wasn't responsible for her anymore.
After the final exams, the students gradually left school.
Annette's students also left school, and she could finally start her vocation.
At lunchtime, she ate with three colleagues from her office and finished the last staff meal of the year. After that, they went home separately.
Annette washed up a bit and planned to take a nap, but her phone rang.
It was from Zachary's mother, and she answered it in a good mood.
"Hello, Barbara."
Barbara's whimpering voice came from the other end of the line. "Ann, may I ask you something about Zachary?"
"Of course."
"Is he dating someone new?"
"I don't think so." Zachary had just rejected Sara. Annette asked in confusion, "Why? Did something happen?"
"Jennifer's parents came to me and said that Zachary insisted on breaking up with Jennifer because he had an affair with another woman, which led to Jennifer's suicide. But... I know my son, and I don't believe he would do something like that."
Annette turned furious.
Wasn't there a single normal person in Jennifer's family?
"Barbara, don't worry. I'm coming to you now."
After Annette hung up the phone, she dialed Connor's number while walking downstairs.
"Are you busy?"
"Well, for you, I'm never busy. What's up?"
Annette said, "Can you come with me to Joseph's house?"
"Is it about Zachary again?"
Annette told Connor what Barbara had just said.
Connor put down the file in his hand and said, "I think you are too nice to the Joseph family."
"Because they've been nice to me."
Connor sneered. "I'm nice to you too, but you never care about me that much."
Annette was not convinced and complained in her heart, 'Really? If I didn't care about you, I would have left you long ago because you helped Alina hide the truth from me last time."
However, she didn't intend to continue the topic. "Do you have time or not? If you're busy, I'll ask Dwayne to go with me."
"I'll go," Connor said resignedly. He could never say no to Annette. "I'll set off now, and I should arrive earlier than you. I'll wait for you there so that we can go upstairs together."
"Okay, see you later."
Connor went downstairs and drove to the neighborhood where Zachary's house was located.
He had indeed arrived earlier than Annette.
