His Hybrid Mate

Chapter 240

Chapter 240

As soon as Sara answered the call, Annette asked, "Sara, where are you now?"

  "I'm in the hospital."

  "To check on Jennifer?"

  "Yes." Sara sighed.

"What's wrong? You don't sound OK. Is Jennifer..."

Sara took a deep sigh and said, "Jennifer will be fine. But I feel sorry for Mr. Joseph.

  "What happened?"

"When I got there, I saw Jennifer's father take out his anger on him in the hallway, and he beat him. Many people were watching, and I wanted to help, yet Mr. Joseph shook his head when he saw me in the crowd. I knew he didn't want me to intervene and was afraid that things would get worse. He didn't do anything wrong. Why should he take the blame?"

Sara got emotional as she mentioned it.

Annette asked, "What was Zachary doing there?"

"I don't know. He was already there when I arrived."

Annette asked with concern, "How is Zachary now? Is he still being targeted by Jennifer's father?"

  "Yes."

"Sara, don't worry. I'm coming to you now."

"No, Annette. You should stay out of this. I'm sure Mr. Joseph doesn't want us to be involved."

Annette didn't want to embarrass her friend, so she asked, "So, what are you gonna do?"

  "I'm not sure yet."

"Alright then. Call me if you need help."

  "Okay."

After hanging up the phone, Sara walked to the flower bed and sat down.

She was torn between going and staying.

She didn't know how long it had passed when someone sat down beside her.

She turned her head and saw it was Zachary. She quickly stood up and said, "Mr. Joseph."

Zachary looked up at her and gave her a bitter smile.

Sara looked at the bruises on his face and asked worriedly, "Are you okay?"

"Well. Couldn't be better," he joked.

Sara felt bad for him. "This is outrageous. How could they beat you like that?"

"It's okay. Actually, it made me feel less guilty."

Sara was anxious and said, "Why do you need to feel guilty? You didn't do anything wrong."

Zachary pursed his lips tightly and then said, "It was true that I wasted four years of Jennifer's life. If she wasn't with me, maybe she would have been married now."

"Well, she made that choice. You can not shoulder all the responsibility. It is unfair to you."

Zachary sighed and didn't say anything.

Sara took a deep breath and said with a gloomy tone, "Wait for me. Don't go anywhere."

Then, she went to the nearby pharmacy to get some supplies for Zachary's injuries.

After she got back, Sara was about to sterilize Zachary's wounds with alcohol sponges.

However, Zachary dodged and said, "It's fine."

Sara held onto his shoulders and said with both anger and concern, "How can it be fine? You are injured. Sit still, if you still want to get back to work."

Sara looked very concerned, so Zachary had no choice but to sit still and let her do the job.

Sara asked, "Didn't Jennifer's father know that you had broken up with her?"

"Yes. But, no father could accept it if his daughter committed suicide for a man. Jennifer's father was simply mad."

  "So? Aren't you mad too?"

Zachary looked at Sara and said, "I'm a man. And men take their responsibilities."

In the face of Zachary's compromise, Sara felt helpless.

But then she thought that having a sense of responsibility was not a bad thing.

After she was done treating his wounds, Sara sat beside Zachary and asked, "Why did you come? Did Jennifer call you?"

"The medical staff in the hospital called me. What about you? Why are you here?"

"I went to work this morning and heard about Jennifer's suicide, so I came to check on her."

Sara said with her head down, "I didn't want anyone to die over this issue. If I didn't ask you to act as my boyfriend yesterday, maybe she wouldn't have done it."

Sara had a guilty look. Zachary thought for a moment and comforted her, "You don't have to blame yourself for that. It has nothing to do with you."

  "But...

"This wasn't the first time Jennifer had committed suicide." Zachary continued as he looked up at the sky, "This is the fourth time. And she always does it in front of a crowd. If she really wanted to die, she wouldn't do it this way. She just wanted to scare me."

Sara felt madder after she learned the truth.

"So, why do you put up with her? She is crazy, but we are not. She becomes unscrupulous because you indulge her too much."

Zachary looked at Sara's angry expression and gave a bitter smile.

Sara felt a little embarrassed and said, "Why are you smiling?"

"You are right. It's all my fault."

  "I... I don't mean that."

Zachary said seriously, "Don't worry, I agree with what you just said. And I'm not stupid. But life is complicated and I can't just do whatever I want."

  Sara nodded.

Zachary continued, "You know my situation. I probably won't be in a relationship for the next few years. I'm glad that you like me, yet I think it's better for you to stay away from me. I don't want you to get hurt because of me."

Sara looked at him and didn't say anything.

But deep down, she was upset.

She knew it wasn't the right time, yet she confessed her affection to Zachary just to spite Jennifer.

Sara could have started by being Zachary's friend, but now, things seemed to get worse.

Zachary stood up and said, "It's getting late. You should go back to work."

Sara also stood up and was about to say something. Then, she heard someone cursing behind her.

"I wondered why you left in such a hurry. It turned out that you sneaked out to see your little girlfriend."

  Zachary and Sara turned around.

Jennifer's father raised his hand and was going to slap Sara, and Zachary pulled Sara behind him quickly.

  Jennifer's father punched Zachary hard.

Sara shouted, "What's the matter with you? You can't just beat someone like that?"

"You're Zachary's lover, right? Let me tell you. I'll not just beat him. I'll beat you as well!"

Jennifer's father said as he pushed Zachary away.

In no time, his wife also rushed over.

Zachary turned to Sara and said, "Get out of here, now!"

Sara said angrily, "I'm not leaving. We did nothing wrong."

Before Sara could say more, she was hit a few times by Jennifer's mother.

Zachary stepped forward and stood in front of Sara. He shouted, "Enough! Do you think that you are in the right just because I put up with you?"

Jennifer's father scolded, "Son of a bitch! My daughter killed herself because of you. And you are here to date another woman. Why are you staring at me? Do you want to hit me?"

Sara understood why Jennifer was so unreasonable after she knew her parents.

She took a few steps aside and called the police.

Sara was not like Zachary, and she wouldn't indulge Jennifer and her parents.
