Chapter 233
Chapter 233
"Agree?"
Annette nodded and said, "Agree."
"Alright then. If you need anything at school, just ask Marcus."
Annette grinned.
Connor looked at her and said, "If one day you care for me as much as I care for you, you will understand how I feel."
Annette thought, 'Does he think that I don't care for him?
That's not true.
I always get upset because of his relationship with Alina.
I'm not the Annette I used to be.
My feelings for Connor made me a different person. I was cold, but not anymore.'
She said nothing. Connor asked deliberately, "Is it that hard for you to tell me you care for me?"
She couldn't help but glare at him.
Connor grinned and thought, 'What a stubborn girl!'
I can tell how much she cares about me.
But no matter how hard I push her, I can hardly hear her say a sweet word to me.
She just wouldn't admit that she is madly in love with me.'
Connor smiled and shook his head.
Annette loved him. What did he have to worry about anyway?
On Monday, Annette finally returned to school.
Perhaps because the previous news was already outdated, her appearance did not cause much of a stir.
Her colleagues and students were all excited to see her.
At noon, Annette invited her colleagues for lunch.
After the meal, she took a walk with Sara on the campus.
Sara said, "I thought you might not come back to work until the new year."
"Why? Staying at home all the time was killing me."
Most importantly, Connor was at home, keeping an eye on her every day, which made her utterly uncomfortable.
"Did you talk to Zachary yesterday?"
Sara shook her head and said, "No. I guess it's not a good time to call him, given what happened that day."
"You know what? Connor had an idea." Annette couldn't bear to see Sara worry.
Sara held Annette's hand and said, "Alpha Connor? Please tell me. What did he suggest?"
Annette nodded and told Sara what Connor had said.
After that, Annette said apprehensively, "Actually, I don't think it will be fair for you to do as Connor says, because you might have to pay a lot."
Sara smiled and said, "Alpha Connor is right about one thing. If you want something, you must fight for it. I have to give it a go anyway. If I fail, I won't regret it. Besides, as a friend, I'm willing to help him out, even if he does not accept me in the end."
Annette realized that she may have underestimated Sara.
Sara was more mature than she thought.
"Sara, I genuinely hope you can be with Zachary. Connor says that two nice people don't always get to live happily, but I think you can make it."
"Thank you."
The two looked at each other and smiled, both hoping that the other could live a better life.
Annette's phone rang again before she started working in the afternoon.
It was Lance.
Annette stared at the number with a cold face as she walked out of her office.
She answered the phone. "What do you want?"
"Ann, your sister was sent to jail for a year."
Annette said coldly, "Sister? Since when did I have a sister? I'm Sharon's only daughter."
"She's about to go to jail. Would you stop throwing a tantrum?"
Annette hesitated for a moment and said, "She deserves to be in prison. She attacked me."
"You know what this means to a young woman, right? What is she gonna do after she comes out of jail? What will people say about her? Ann, you should learn to be tolerant, but you don't seem to understand that."
"You're right. I don't. That's what I learned from you."
"Ann! I regret what I did to your mom. But, there's something I regret more now. If I knew you were going to ruin my life when you were still in Sharon's belly, I would have..."
He didn't finish the sentence.
Annette's eyes were misty. She couldn't control it.
She thought, 'That's what a father says to his daughter.
How ridiculous!'
"Let me finish it for you. You would have killed me, right?" Annette took a deep breath. Then she said, "You should regret it. You didn't kill me, and therefore you will suffer from now on. My revenge on you has just begun. Lance, be prepared."
She hung up the phone as soon as she finished speaking.
She went to the window for a breath of fresh air and wiped her tears from the corners of her eyes.
She didn't need a father.
She never needed a father.
Therefore, his words wouldn't hurt her.
But even with these consolations, Annette could hardly assuage her resentment.
She turned around and went downstairs, taking a walk alone on the campus.
She lost track of time. Suddenly, Marcus' voice came from behind her.
"Annette."
Annette turned around and saw him running towards her with a basketball in his hand, sweating profusely.
"Marcus? Shouldn't you be in class?"
"Didn't you go to class this morning? I told you I had no class this afternoon."
Annette then nodded and said, "That's right. I remember now. What's up?"
Marcus looked at her and said, "I saw you passing by, looking a bit down, so I came over to check on you."
Annette turned her head and realized that she had walked to the basketball court at some point in time.
She waved her hand and said, "I'm fine. I was just thinking about something. Go back to your game."
She patted Marcus on the shoulder and walked away.
The other guys at the basketball court called Marcus to get back to the game.
Marcus threw the ball at them and quickly caught up with Annette.
He knew that if anything happened to her, Connor would make him suffer.
"Are you sure you are OK? How about I take you home?"
Annette glared at him, and explained, "I told you that I'm fine. It's just that Lance called me a while ago and said that Jessica had been sentenced to jail."
"Isn't that a good thing? Why do you look upset?"
Annette smiled and said, "Because Lance said he regretted not killing me when I was a fetus."
Marcus looked at her with concern.
At noon, Annette couldn't refuse Marcus and decided to take a walk with him. Then Marcus called Leonard.
Annette and Marcus went to the school gate and got into the car, and then Marcus gave Leonard an address.
Annette was confused and asked, "Why are we going there?"
"Lucas gave the villa to me the other day. So, I want to show you."
About an hour later, the car stopped at Marcus' villa.
Annette froze while looking at the villa in front of her.
She had been here with Sharon before.
Marcus opened the car door for Annette and said, "Come on. Let's go."
Annette then got out of the car.
"Marcus, did you say that this is your family's villa?"
"That's right. It belonged to Bartz before. No one has been here since he died. Let me show you around."
Marcus opened the door with a gleeful look on his face.
Annette was in a trance and followed him into the villa.
She felt as if she was back to her childhood.
