Chapter 197
Chapter 197
"Connor, have you seen Jessica's photos online?"
Connor said, "I just found out."
"Jessica tried to kill herself."
Connor nodded and said, "I just heard from Hari. Why do you sound so weird? What is it? Are you feeling sorry for her?"
Annette shook her head. She put her hand gently over her heart.
"I thought of my mom. That's all."
When Connor heard her words, he stood up and left the office.
"Don't get your head around it. Jessica doesn't deserve to be in the same sentence as Sharon."
"Connor, do you know? When Lance called me just now, he sounded desperate. His tone finally made me understand that Lance was a good father as well. It was just that his kindness was not for me."
"You are already past the age where you need a father. The Moon Goddess sent you to meet me to make up for a lack in your life. Right?"
Annette nodded. She was not in a very good mood. She just wanted to talk to Connor.
"As long as it has nothing to do with you. I'm going to read my book now."
She hung up the phone, walked to the balcony, and sat down, quietly looking at the sky in the distance.
She didn't know how long had passed. Then the room door was opened.
When Annette heard the sound, she looked back.
She saw Connor, and she asked in surprise, "Why are you back?"
Connor smiled, "My gut tells me that you needed a hug badly, so I came back."
He spread his arms and walked in front of her. He asked complacently, "Yeah? Do you want one?"
Annette got up, went over to him, and put her arms around him.
Yes, indeed. She needed a hug.
When she was sad or scared, she wished that someone could hold her.
In the past, she was always on her own.
Yet since she met Connor, everything had changed.
He was there for her every time she needed a hug.
Connor gently stroked her back.
"Don't think about it. Women like Jessica have offended a lot of people. She deserves to be where she is today, and her life is none of your business. So, you don't have to feel bad about her. Understand?"
Annette nodded in his arms.
"Did Lance say anything harsh to you? If so, I will make things right for you."
Annette shook her head. "He suspected that we were the ones who posted the photos online."
"So what if we were? He didn't forget how much trouble Jessica had caused us in front of the media, did he? Did he really think everyone had the obligation to indulge his useless daughter as he did?"
Annette came out of his arms and said, "But I don't like being accused of something I didn't do. Look into it for me, OK? I want to know who did it."
Connor nodded and said, "Whoever did this, it seems to me they did a good job and deserve credit."
Thanks to Connor, Annette felt less pain.
She thought, 'Sure enough, one shouldn't be alone when one is sad.'
Half an hour later, Hari came back to Connor.
After hanging up the phone, Connor looked at Annette and smiled amusingly.
"Hari found the person who provided the photos. You know the person."
Annette said, "I know the person?"
"This person goes to your school a lot."
Annette said in confusion, "I don't have a clue. Just tell me."
"Let alone you, even I'm surprised. It was Judica."
"Judica?" Annette unconsciously raised her voice.
"She doesn't know Jessica. Why would she do that?"
"Who told you that they don't know each other? They went to the bar together the day before yesterday."
"Do they know each other?"
Annette found it hard to link Judica to Jessica.
She had a feeling. It was more than that.
The next day, Annette returned to school.
As soon as she entered the office, the three teachers in the office became excited instantly.
"Annette."
Alanna was the first to run over. She hugged Annette.
Annette could not help but smile. She said, "Alanna, why are you so sweet today?"
"I missed you. I thought you weren't coming to work until the holidays."
Annette shrugged and smiled, "There's still work to be done."
Eden asked, "Are there no more reporters at the door? I saw them at the school gate the other day."
Sara nodded and said, "I saw them too."
Annette said, "After the press conference, it seems that I'm no longer in the limelight."
Annette put down her backpack, walked to her desk, and sat down.
"Let's chat later. I have to deal with my work now."
Sara said, "Marcus has taken care of most of your work these days."
Annette looked at Sara and asked, "Marcus was here?"
Alanna said, "He comes here every day."
Before she finished speaking, there was a knock on the door. Marcus pushed the door open and came in.
When Marcus saw Annette, he was surprised. "Why are you here?"
Annette shrugged and smiled at him, "Thank you for these days."
"Indeed, you should thank me. I've worked so hard. I deserve some reward."
Annette nodded. "Sure. Tell me what I can do for you."
"Bring people to my bar."
Alanna asked curiously, "What bar?"
Annette pursed her lips and said, "Marcus has opened a bar. I'll take you there sometime."
Alanna snapped her fingers and said happily, "Today, then."
"OK." Annette nodded. Then she said to Marcus, "You will be receiving guests today. There will be four in total."
"Sure! Now that you're back, I'll go."
Annette waved her hand at Marcus.
After Marcus left, Alanna sighed, "I always thought Marcus was as cold as Alpha Connor. Who knows? Marcus is so nice."
Annette shrugged. In fact, it wasn't just Marcus. Connor was nice as well.
Annette picked up a folder and said, "I'll go to the classroom."
At noon, Annette and Sara went out of school to eat.
When they returned, Annette saw Austin's car at the school gate.
Annette pulled Sara and walked faster, but Austin got out of the car and stopped them.
"Ann."
Annette stopped in her tracks, her expression grave.
Sara looked at Annette and asked, "Shall I help you get rid of him?"
Before Annette could speak, Austin had already walked over.
"The more you avoid me at a time like this, the more others will think that something is going on between us. Don't you know?"
Annette looked up at Austin. She was very unhappy.
Austin looked at Sara. He said, "Ma'am, may I speak to Ann alone for a moment?"
Sara looked at Annette and said, "Annette?"
Annette nodded. "Sara, just go first."
After Sara left, Austin pointed to his car and said, "Get in the car. I'll take you somewhere."
"Let's talk here. What do you want to say?" Annette had learned her lesson, and she was not going anywhere with Austin.
Austin looked hurt. He said, "Jessica is OK now."
Annette nodded expressionlessly. "Congratulations."
