His Hybrid Mate

Chapter 196

Chapter 196

Alina smiled at him. She said, "Believe me. I'll never hurt you. Promise me that you'll be happy all your life. Go, Annette is waiting for you. Don't keep her waiting."

Looking at Alina's forced smile, Connor hesitated for a moment and then turned away.

At the sound of the door closing, Alina lay down slowly, her tears streaming down.

It was time for her to make a move.

She thought, 'Connor, I'm sorry. I can't stand other women involved in your happiness.

If I can't have it, no one else can.

People are selfish, and so am I. So, don't blame me.'

When Connor came out, Annette quickly moved her ear away from the door.

He poked her face and asked, "What are you doing?"

"Nothing. I was picking up something from the ground." She deliberately shook the bag in her hand.

Her guilty look amused Connor. He teased her, "Is that so?"

"Of course. Why would I lie to you? How come you are out so quickly?"

Connor put his hand on her shoulder and said, "I didn't want to keep you waiting. Let's go take you to the doctor."

  "OK. Let's go."

Annette felt embarrassed. It was the first time she eavesdropped.

She thought, 'Not only did I not hear a word of their conversation, but I was caught red-handed.

  Can I be more embarrassed?'

Looking at her fleeing away, Connor couldn't help but chuckle.

He figured that the more Annette felt guilty, the cuter she was.

He quickly caught up to her. "Alina didn't say anything, just that I should take good care of you."

Annette turned her head slightly. She felt so embarrassed.

She finished the prenatal examination quickly.

On the way back, Annette said, "I want to go back to work tomorrow."

"You really can't go a day without work, can you?"

"I think I've asked for too much leave during this period. As a student instructor, I can't sit around while doing nothing. That's not good."

Connor said righteously, "If anyone has a problem with it, you can resign at any time. It's not exactly a great job."

"No matter how insignificant this job may seem to you, I'm not quitting. I've worked very hard for this job."

He said unhappily, "You worked hard indeed. You even sacrificed your first love."

Seeing that he was angry again, Annette said cautiously, "It's not because of Kyle that I won't quit. This is my dream. Besides, winter vacation is coming. I should do what I ought to do before the winter vacation, right? I don't like leaving things undone."

"That's a good habit," Connor said. Then he contacted Hari and said, "Get two pack guards for Annette."

  Annette stopped Connor.

She looked at Connor and said seriously, "Connor, this is too much. There's nothing dangerous at school. Besides, the press conference has been held, and things have been cleared up. I go to school for work. I wouldn't be able to do my job properly if I had guards with me, and my students would suffer."

Connor stared at her and thought, 'If I hadn't stepped in from the beginning, you would have suffered a lot.'

  "Silly."

But Connor didn't insist on the escort.

When they got home, Annette went to Connor's study to find a new notebook and then went upstairs.

She was writing at the desk when he went back to the room.

He had thought she was studying, but her books were still on the balcony table. He walked over to her curiously.

  "What are you doing?"

Annette raised her notebook. She smiled proudly and said, "I'm making a baby diary."

  "A baby diary?"

Annette nodded. "Yes. I'm going to make a diary for the baby since it is still a fetus. It'll be memorable. Don't you think so? In such a way, the baby gets to see the growth trajectory when it gets older. Isn't that nice?"

Connor nodded. He looked at her lovingly and smiled, "You are a great mom."

Annette smirked and bent her head to continue writing.

Connor took the pen from her hand and wrote a few words on the notebook cover.

  He named it "Baby Diary".

  Then he wrote, "Father, Connor".

And then he wrote, "Mother, Annette".

He handed the diary to her and said gently, "It will be more memorable if the baby's parents write the diary together."

Annette looked up at him and felt warm in her heart.

"You can write down anything you want to say to the baby, too."

Connor bent down to write a few words in the diary without hesitation.

Looking at the warm words he wrote, Annette smiled.

She thought, 'Connor, you will be a great dad.'

After writing the diary, Connor went to work.

  Annette was at home, reading.

Not long after, Austin called her.

Annette still chose not to take the call.

  Then, Lance called her.

She stared at the phone, puzzled. She thought, 'What the heck are Austin and Lance up to today?'

She still did not pick up the phone.

Soon, Austin sent her a message: "Answer the phone, now."

As soon as she finished reading the text, Lance called again.

She hesitated for a second and picked up the phone.

Lance's hysterical roar came from the other end of the line. "Annette, what the hell do you want? What good will it do you to have Jessica die?"

Annette was a little angry as well. She retorted, "Lance, what's the matter with you? What did I do?"

"Jessica killed herself. It was all your fault. Let me tell you something! If anything happens to Jessica, you won't get away with it. Even if I die, I'll take you with me. I'll take you to your mother and ask her how she taught you as a kid."

Annette held her phone and was stunned for at least five seconds.

The busy tone came from the other end of the line.

  Lance hung up the phone.

Annette looked down at her phone. After a few seconds, she began to search for Jessica's news online.

Annette didn't follow the news when she was at home.

So, she had no idea that today, some media outlets posted screenshots of Jessica drinking with some guys at a bar the night before.

In the photos, the way she was on the dance floor with those guys didn't strike others as a woman troubled by love.

Jessica became the butt of jokes because of it.

Before Annette finished reading the news, Austin called her again.

Annette picked up the phone and placed it beside her ear.

Austin's voice was a bit weak. He said, "Jessica's number was leaked, and because of today's news, someone called her and insulted her, which was too much for her, so she cut her wrist. She's had a lot of blood transfusions by now. The doctor said that her condition was bad, and there was a high chance that she could not make it. Is this what you want, Ann?"

"Did I force her to kill herself? Was I the one who asked her to blabber in front of the reporters? She kept digging her own grave, saying that she was Connor's fiancée and that she had depression. She claimed those things on her own. Why are you and your father questioning me when she killed herself? Is it just because I am Connor's mate now? Austin, don't try to let me take all the blame. I won't be responsible for what I didn't do."

After she finished speaking, she hung up the phone.

The words "cut her wrist" frightened her.

The last scene of Sharon came to her mind.

She thought of the blood-stained bathtub and the blood that covered the ground.

She covered her face with both hands and took a deep breath.

It wasn't until she had pushed the images out of her head that she picked up her phone again and called Connor.
