Chapter 162
Chapter 162
"It's hard to say. I think the Moon Goddess has made the best arrangements. Even if I can't be his mate, I think it's good to be his friend."
As Annette said, her phone rang. Seeing that it was Marcus calling, she was happy to find a good opportunity to escape.
She picked up the phone and went to get her bag. She said to Alanna and the others, "It's time to get off work. Hurry home. I wish you a happy weekend."
She opened the door and walked out.
Marcus' voice sounded on the other side of the line. "Annette, I just heard about what Connor did. What do you think?"
"What do you mean?"
"Are you touched?" Marcus smirked.
"Is there a need to be touched?" Just now, Annette was just in fright.
"Annette, you are going too far. Connor made your relationship public and announced to the world that you were his mate. If others offend you, they will offend him. He is protecting you."
Annette rolled her eyes. Even so, she still couldn't recover from the shock.
She went out of the office building and found that people along the way were whispering behind her back.
When she passed by them, she could hear them talking about Connor.
"Alright. I think you are calling to make me mad. Don't talk to me anymore. Just go to your bar. I have to get away from school as soon as possible."
Annette hung up the phone and walked quickly to the school gate.
She had only walked a short distance when Connor's car caught up with her.
The driver pressed the horn. When Annette turned around and saw that it was Connor's car, she quickly got into it.
As soon as she sat in the car, she felt safe.
Connor looked at her and smiled.
Annette glared at him. "Why are you still smiling? Everyone is watching me. It's all your fault."
"I think you are worried too much."
"Everyone is talking about my relationship with you. I heard it with my ears," Annette emphasized.
"Let them be. They shift their attention from other men to me. I think it's good. I am finally related to you." Connor looked complacent.
Annette asked, "Mr. capitalist, why are you so optimistic?"
Connor grabbed her hand and said, "Being optimistic is a good thing. I said that I would stand by your side and protect you in the future. If others don't know about my relationship with you, how can I protect you?"
Annette said, "But have you ever thought that if we separate one day, it will be a greater blow for me."
"There won't be such a day," Connor poked her head and said, "You should have some faith in me."
"I don't have faith in myself." Annette thought, 'I am just a hybrid. Would he like me for the rest of his life?'
Connor rubbed her head lovingly and said, "Don't take others' comments to heart. It doesn't matter what they say. Your mood is more important. Life is short, and we shouldn't waste it on such things."
There was a hint of curiosity in Annette's eyes. "Is this your experience?"
Connor put on a faint smile and asked, "What do you think?"
"Your experience or not, I think what you just said is right. I agree with you."
Connor pinched Annette's cheek and said, "Annette, you've learned how to flatter me."
The car drove back to the villa. Annette's phone rang as she got out of the car.
She took it out and saw that it was a call from Jessica. She was stunned.
Connor got out of the car from the other side and asked, "Why aren't you picking it up?"
Annette said, "Just go in first."
"Can you handle that call?"
"Yep." Annette smiled. She couldn't ask him to solve every problem for her.
Connor entered the house. Annette sat down on a white chair on the lawn and picked up the phone.
Jessica's voice sounded. "Annette, you've been busy lately."
"Don't talk to me in such a strange tone. Just say what you have to say."
"I don't care what kind of relationship you have with other men, but you better stay away from Connor. He is mine."
The corners of Annette's lips curled into a cold smile. Someone in the school must have tipped Jessica off. Otherwise, she wouldn't have heard the news so quickly.
"Is that so? I never heard him say so."
"Annette, don't play dumb. A man like Alpha Connor can be with any woman as long as he wants. He was just flirting with you. Don't think that he has taken a fancy to you. You are just a hybrid and not worthy of his love!" Jessica said sarcastically, "You are overestimating yourself!"
Annette was not angry because she knew that Jessica was dumb.
"Whether Connor is playing with me has nothing to do with you. Has Connor said that he wants you to be his mate? At least, I am pretty, while you have no advantage at all. Jessica, listen up. It's fine if I can not be Connor's mate. As for you, don't even think about it. If you don't believe me, just try it."
After listening to Annette's words, Jessica was angry. She scolded, "Annette, you shameless bitch!"
Recently, Annette had heard too many similar curses and did not feel angry anymore. There was no need for her to be angry with a person like Jessica.
Although she was not angry, she did not want to be pestered by Jessica all the time. She said with a serious tone, "Jessica, don't think that Connor will become your mate just because of the rumors. Stop dreaming."
Jessica said furiously, "Annette, you're just a hybrid. How dare you talk to me like that?"
"Why not? You're angry because my words hit your sore spot. I'm no longer the same as before. Forget it. I can't set high moral standards for you and your family. It's a waste of time to talk to you."
After that, Annette hung up the phone and turned to walk into the house.
Jessica heard a busy tone from the other side of the line and smashed her phone to the ground.
Jessica was furious. She picked up things randomly from the table and threw them to the ground.
Leslie came out of her room due to the noises.
She saw Jessica going crazy and said anxiously, "My precious daughter, what's going on?"
"Leslie, I will kill Annette! I want that bitch to die!" As she spoke, Jessica stomped her feet and cried.
Leslie walked to her and asked, "Did Annette provoke you again?"
"Today, Alpha Connor hugged her publicly at school. I only warned her a few times, yet she dared to humiliate me. Leslie, Daddy said that when Randolph talked with Alpha Connor, Alpha Connor didn't refuse him. It proved that he did not intend to refuse me. But it has been so long. Why hasn't he been doing anything? Did he forget what he said to Randolph? I hate Annette. I'm just so mad at her."
