Chapter 157
Chapter 157
Darren smiled, "Alpha Connor. Annette and Marcus don't have a mate. Marcus is handsome, and Annette is beautiful. It is normal for them to be in a relationship."
Connor's eyes turned cold as he averted his gaze.
Darren gulped. He thought, 'Does Alpha Connor know that Annette and Marcus are dating?
Or is Alpha Connor picky about Annette's background?'
Darren lowered his head and avoided Connor's probing gaze.
Annette looked at Connor with displeasure and said, "Alpha Connor, why did you say that? How could I fall in love with my student?"
Upon hearing Annette's words, Darren said hurriedly, "Annette, mind your attitude."
"Mr. Crace, I think there is nothing wrong with my attitude. The students in the school are spreading rumors that I am in love with Marcus. They are still young, and I can forgive them. But Alpha Connor is not a child. He heard the rumors and misunderstood me. I am just clarifying for myself."
Annette stood up and said, "Alpha Connor, Mr. Crace, I still have something to deal with. If you are not going to talk about work, I will go back. I wish you a good meal. Goodbye."
With that, she turned and left.
Connor looked at her back with amusement, thinking, 'She always knows how to defend herself.'
Annette avoided the group of students on the basketball team and walked out of the restaurant.
She got into Leonard's car at the school gate.
Less than half an hour after Leonard sent her home, Connor was back.
When Connor returned to the room, Annette had finished showering and was reading a book by the window.
She heard Connor's footsteps and ignored him deliberately.
Connor took off his coat and walked to her. He reached out to rub her head and said, "Are you angry again?"
Annette glanced at him and sneered. "I dare not be angry with you. Alpha Connor, whatever you say is right."
Connor said, "So many people think that you are a couple. Why don't you explain it?"
Annette questioned him, "How do you know that we haven't explained it? Have you heard the whole story?"
Connor's lips curled up. He believed that they had explained it. He asked, "Why are there such rumors in the school?"
"It's all Marcus' fault. He is usually indifferent to other girls but often talks and laughs with me. That's why others get the wrong idea."
Connor was silent, and his eyes looked more serious.
Annette frowned and said unhappily, "Connor, you didn't believe the rumors about Marcus and me, did you?"
Connor pinched her chin gently and said seriously in a deep voice, "I don't care what others say. I only care about what you and Marcus think. Annette, you know, I will never experience some things a second time. You are mine, and you can only be mine. Understand?"
Annette thought of Alina and Lucas.
She said, "In my eyes, Marcus is just like a brother."
"Are you sure?"
Annette frowned. "What are you suspecting? Do you think all the women in the world will be like Alina?"
Connor said with a grave expression, "Back then, although she didn't betray me voluntarily, I did bear some betrayal."
Annette looked down at the book in her hand. After a while, she said, "You shouldn't have given up on Alina back then."
Connor sat down on the cushion opposite her and looked at her lovingly with a smile. "I gave in at that time probably to meet you."
Annette pursed her lips into a smile, her heart beating wildly.
Although she did not know how Connor had acted in front of Alina, she was often touched by him.
"By the way, I want to discuss something with you on behalf of Marcus."
Connor frowned and asked, "On behalf of him? Why?"
"He promised to help the school basketball team win the championship. This is the reward he proposed."
Connor rolled his eyes. Marcus was clear that Connor would agree to anything Annette asked.
"What did he ask you to do?"
"He said he wanted to open a bar," Annette said. "Isn't it a small matter for your family? Why would you disagree?"
Connor said, "What did he say?"
"He said that he was not for money. And you may think that this will be a shame to the Norman family."
"Nonsense." Connor frowned and said, "He lied to you. I will talk to him. Don't worry about it for the time being."
Annette was puzzled. "Is my mission a success or a failure?"
"You succeeded. As for whether I agree or not, it depends on Marcus' attitude."
Annette nodded with satisfaction as her task was completed.
The next afternoon, Connor arrived at school half an hour earlier.
He asked the principal for a lounge and sent someone to get Marcus.
Marcus saw Connor's expression and knew that something would happen next.
He sat down beside Connor and asked, "Connor, what do you want from me?"
"What do you think?"
"I don't know. If I knew, I wouldn't have asked you." Marcus shrugged.
"You are still unwilling to give up on the bar."
Marcus guessed that as long as Annette mentioned it, Connor would look for him.
He looked at Connor and said earnestly, "Conner, my situation is different from Bartz's."
"Bartz would never have thought that he, as our father's younger brother, would meet the bitch from the Black Thorn Pack in the bar and that he would be ruined by her. I am not the only one who prevented you from opening a bar. Lucas also disagreed. Among us, your personality is the most similar to Bartz's. You are both emotional and impulsive. Can you guarantee that you will not end up like Bartz?"
"Connor, I am already an adult. Even if you stop me now, I will do it in the future. In that case, can't you just support me instead of objecting?"
Connor stared at Marcus for seconds. He said slowly, "What is the real reason? I want to know your true thoughts. Don't brush me off."
Marcus thought for a moment and then said, "I want to see all kinds of people and learn about the different world. I want to make up for the lack of sociability in my past decade. I don't want to live under the protection of the Blood Moon Pack. I want to live the life I want."
"Will you live the life you want by opening a bar?" Connor asked.
"Yes."
"Others will find out that you are a member of the Blood Moon Pack sooner or later. You can't get rid of your identity in this life." Connor tested Marcus' determination.
"Even if things didn't turn out as I expected, I would still feel happy. Anyway, I did what I wanted to do most," Marcus said with a sincere expression.
