Chapter 14
Chapter 14
Connor sensed that something was wrong with Annette. He could feel her wolf getting restless. He gently pressed Annette's shoulder.
He was reminding Annette that there were many werewolves at present, and she needed to control her wolf.
Otherwise, other werewolves would sense that Annette was a Rogue.
It would be very dangerous for Annette.
Annette took a deep breath and slowly calmed down. But her gaze didn't shift.
As he followed her gaze, he realized that she was looking at Lance Fisher, Black Thorn Pack's Alpha. Lance was chatting with someone in his wheelchair.
"Do you know him?" When Connor saw Lance, he naturally thought of Austin.
"No." Annette let go of Connor's arm and shook her head.
"OK then. Do you want to eat something?"
"Yes," she said, wearing an unnatural expression.
"Come sit with me." He brought her to a table in the corner. "Just take a seat here. What do you want to eat?"
"Anything."
He called the waiter to get some food for her.
She lowered her head and ate slowly.
People came over to greet Connor, and he exchanged a few words with them.
As he spoke, he looked down at Annette. She was secretly looking in Lance's direction.
Connor frowned. It was obvious that she knew Lance. He was certain of it.
Someone led Connor aside for some business talk. He looked at Annette and said, "I'll go over there and sit with them for a while. I'll be back in a few minutes. Just stay here."
"I get it." She nodded.
After Connor left, Annette felt someone staring at her unscrupulously.
She raised her head and saw Lance looking at her.
She shifted her gaze away and continued eating.
However, the more she wanted to stay calm, the clearer she heard the sounds around her.
A couple of women at the table behind her were talking about her and Connor.
One of the women said disdainfully, "Where did she come from?"
"Who knows? Did you just see how tight she clung to Mr. Norman? She was all over him."
"What a cheeky bitch. If there were no one here, she would probably have thrown herself at Mr. Norman."
"Agreed. I don't think Mr. Norman likes her. His face was so cold. It's like she sickened him."
"I feel sorry for the young girls nowadays. They are so light-headed, just because they are good-looking. How dare she covets someone like Mr. Norman? She is just a nobody."
They were so engaged in their discussion that they had no idea when Connor was passing behind them.
Connor looked at the women with disgust, and they immediately shut their mouths.
Annette's hand was shaking while holding the fork.
She had seen the ugly faces of Jessica and her mother.
Yet she still felt irritated about being discussed by strangers like that.
She put down her knife and fork and rose to leave the upsetting place.
At the same time, elegant music started, and people walked into the dance floor one after another.
Connor walked in front of her, blocking her path. He placed his hand on her waist and looked at her with a doting smile.
"So? With this music, you can't sit still anymore, and want to dance with me, right?"
He let her walk past the next table. He said in a relatively louder voice, so those women could hear him.
Everyone was silent and looked at Annette and Connor.
"I don't know how to dance," Annette said.
"Then learn. I'll teach you," Connor said.
He clasped her hands gently around his neck, and then he put his hands on her waist.
He looked at her and said, "I know a great way to get you to dance quickly. After a while, I will kiss you as long as you step on me."
"What?" She gawked at him.
She was wearing high heels and could not walk steadily, which made her almost press her body over him.
He took her to the middle of the dance floor.
Their appearance immediately got everyone's attention.
She was very nervous. She swayed along with him, and then she stepped on him hard.
Connor kept his promise. Before she could react, he lowered his head and kissed her lips.
Annette could hear nothing. She felt that there was no one around them.
She could no longer hear music or people talking.
All she could feel was his warm lips and the tip of his tongue tasting like wine.
She thought, 'It seems that he can't get enough of it.
How is that possible?
Connor is not my mate.'
When the music was over, he led the way and left the dance floor with her, and she was still in a daze.
People were still staring at them, but she didn't bother.
She wondered. Why did Connor do that?
Annette suddenly felt embarrassed when she thought Lance was also present.
She looked at the corner where Lance was just now.
Lance had left at some point in time.
She did not see Lance, but she saw Austin at a glance.
Austin stood where Lance had been, looking at her with a disappointed face.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she felt embarrassed.
A moment later, Austin left as well.
Annette looked embarrassed.
Connor was watching her without blinking.
Therefore, he saw every bit of her anxiety and uneasiness.
He also saw Austin's expression.
Connor smiled. It seemed that there was something between Annette and Black Thorn Pack.
"You don't look very well. Did you just run out of air?"
Annette glared at Connor with a complaint. "Why did you do that?"
"Did what? Kissed you? I told you before. It was the rule to teach you to dance."
"I didn't say I wanted to learn."
"But you came with me to the dance floor."
'Damn it,' Annette thought. She wished she could get rid of those stilettoes. They were too much for her.
She took a deep breath and said, "Forget it. I have no interest in talking about the things that have happened already since it's not going to change. I'm tired. I want to go back."
"Great. I'm tired, too. Let's get out of here." Connor put his arm around her waist and walked out.
She struggled slightly.
He smiled, "Behave, or I'll carry you out in my arms."
She stopped struggling and followed his lead.
