Chapter 116
Chapter 116
Annette had a crush on Zachary when she was a teenage girl.
Her face blushed slightly as she said, "Zachary, I thought you went abroad?"
"I've been back for half a month. I was planning to visit you and Sharon."
Speaking of her mother, Annette was dejected. She said with a bitter smile, "My mother is dead."
Seeing Annette's dejected expression, Zachary reacted. "Oh."
Annette explained, "She had depression and committed suicide."
Zachary frowned and said with pity, "How did you get through all these years?"
"When my mother died, I was able to support myself. So, it's been OK."
Zachary patted Annette on the shoulder. He said, "It must be hard for you. What are you doing now?"
Annette said, "I am a student instructor at the university."
"I remember you said that you wanted to be a teacher when you grew up. It seems that you have fulfilled your dream."
Annette nodded. She asked, "By the way, why are you here? Are you here for some shopping?"
"I work in this mall." Zachary scratched her nose with his finger as he did when he was a child. "What are you going to buy? Let's go. I'll go shopping with you."
Annette waved her hand and refused, "Well, I'm done shopping. You should go back to your work."
"I'm not busy at the moment. Do you want to have dinner together?"
Just as Annette was about to agree, her phone rang.
She knew who was calling, so she hung up.
She threw the phone back into her bag, yet it rang again.
She did not intend to pick it up, but Zachary pointed at her bag and said, "Maybe you should answer it."
Annette smiled awkwardly. She took out her phone and picked it up.
Connor's cold voice sounded on the other side of the line. "It seems that you are indeed an attractive woman."
Annette frowned and glanced around.
She walked aside and said in a low voice, "Where are you?"
"In a place where I can see you talking and laughing with another man."
Annette said in a fit of anger, "So what?"
"I came to pick you out of kindness, yet you gave me such a surprise. I'm so jealous that I want to hit someone. Guess who I want to hit?"
"Don't mess around."
"I'll give you five minutes to say goodbye to him. Come downstairs quickly. I'll wait for you in the car."
"Why should I listen to you?" Annette was unconvinced. "I'll go out and have dinner with my friend."
"Three minutes. If you don't come downstairs, there will be consequences."
In the lounge not far away, Connor hung up the phone and looked coldly at Annette and Zachary.
He wondered who the man was.
Annette looked shy when she spoke to Zachary, which pissed Connor off.
He could tell that something was going on between Annette and Zachary.
Hearing the busy tone on the other side of the line, Annette felt depressed.
She turned around and walked to Zachary.
Zachary smiled, "You look mad. Who pissed you?"
"No one," Annette shook her head and said, "Zachary, I'm sorry. I can't go to dinner with you."
"What happened? Was your boyfriend calling you?"
"No." Annette said, "I have something to deal with tonight."
Zachary nodded. He patted Annette on the shoulder and said, "Alright, let's do it another day. Tell me your phone number. Since I'm back, let's keep in touch."
Annette told her phone number to Zachary and asked for his number.
Zachary watched her leave before walking forward.
Annette reached the entrance of the mall. Leonard had just parked his car there, but now, Connor took his place.
She opened the door and got in the car in a fit of pique.
She was angry and did not even look at Connor.
Connor asked, "Who is that man?"
Annette said snappily, "It has nothing to do with you."
"Do you want me to investigate him myself?"
Annette turned to glare at him. "Connor, what are you trying to do?"
"What do you want to do? Do I not have the right to ask who that man was?"
Connor felt frustrated. He cherished Annette so much, yet she didn't seem to care about him at all.
Annette was a little angry. "Why didn't you tell me this morning that there were hickeys on my neck?"
"I did. I told you not to move."
"You could explain it clearly on the phone, okay? If you reminded me, I wouldn't have embarrassed myself at work," Annette complained.
"Is sleeping with me so embarrassing?"
Annette's face turned red because of anger.
She opened the door and was about to get out of the car, but Connor grabbed her wrist.
"Where are you going?"
"I don't want to stay with you. Let go of me. You made me embarrassed in school! Is it so difficult for you to tell me clearly on the phone?"
Connor found that Annette was not angry about the same thing as him now.
He thought that she would be angry because he had not allowed her to eat with another man.
Unexpectedly, she cared more about losing face in school.
Connor held Annette's cheek with his hand and looked down at her.
"I gave you the chance to choose in the morning. You chose to avoid me and leave. No one forced you."
Annette turned her face away. Connor exerted a little more force in his hand and made her look at him.
Seeing that she was silent, Connor asked, "Who was that man?"
Annette turned her face away once again.
She did not want to say a word to him right now.
Connor nodded and said, "You don't want to tell me. Alright then."
He took out his phone and dialed his secretary's number.
"Hari, get someone to investigate the man who was chatting with Annette in the mall just now. In ten minutes, I want to see all his information..."
Before he could finish his words, Annette patted Connor's hand.
She snatched his phone and hung it up. She shouted, "Connor, you are crazy! He only said a few words to me. Why do you have to investigate him?"
