Chapter 709 - 679: The Last Night of Blood Town
Chapter 709 - 679: The Last Night of Blood Town
After saying this, Huang Yi immediately transformed from the Treasure-Sniffing Cat’s Void State back into human form, appearing out of thin air.
"Huh? Who are you! How come you are in my house?" Diya suddenly exclaimed in surprise, quickly positioning herself between the sleeping boy’s bed and Huang Yi, watching him warily.
"You don’t need to know who I am, you just need to know that I won’t lie to you," Huang Yi stared at Diya, turned to look at the Bloody Town under the sunlight outside the door, and said in a deep voice, "You must have noticed as well, that there’s something off about this small town, and your wife has been acting abnormally, in fact, they’ve all turned into ghouls."
"What a joke! You, who popped up out of nowhere! You start by slandering my family," Diya immediately cursed in anger, her expression fierce as she glared at Huang Yi, "I’ve been dealing with ghouls every day recently, I can tell what a ghoul looks like at a glance, my wife clearly has the appearance of a beautiful human, how could she possibly be a disgusting ghoul?"
Huang Yi looked at Diya calmly, shook his head, and said, "During the day she is normal, but at night, she turns into a ghoul, this I have seen with my own eyes."
"Haha!" Diya laughed as if she had heard something funny, scoffed, "Since when do ghouls differ between day and night? I have never seen such ghouls! You, who came out of nowhere, secretly hiding in our house, what exactly is your purpose?" After speaking, she walked over impolitely, seemingly about to take action.
"The world is vast, how could you possibly know every type of ghoul, there will always be some that exceed your understanding," Huang Yi said while pointing at the sleeping boy on the bed, "If you don’t believe it, you can ask your son, see what your wife has been doing these nights."
Upon hearing this, Diya couldn’t help but stop in her tracks, biting her lip and flashing a moment of hesitation on her face. After a while, as if she had made up her mind, she turned and walked to the little bed, reached out her hand, and woke up the little boy.
"Daddy!" The little boy woke up, stretched out his small hands, rubbed his eyes, and called out tenderly.
"Baby, what has mommy been doing at night these past few days?" Diya asked, nervously looking at the little boy, dreading the possibility of an unfavorable answer.
"Every night, Mommy and I play hide-and-seek, she makes me hide in the cellar, and no matter what noises come from outside, I’m not to come out," the little boy obediently answered.
"She has you hiding in the cellar all night?" Diya furrowed her brows, asking to confirm once more.
"Yes!" The little boy nodded, his pure dark eyes looking at Diya, with no intention of lying.
Upon hearing this, Diya immediately closed her eyes.
His body trembled slightly, as if he was realizing something unpleasant. The warm sunlight streamed through the window, highlighting his frame. This man, normally so tall and heroic, seemed somewhat fragile and helpless at this moment.
"Perhaps, perhaps she has other things to do!" After a while, Diya seemed to have found a reason to persuade herself and finally opened his eyes, muttering to herself.
Then, she turned her head towards Huang Yi, her expression turning cold, and said, "Get out! Leave our house!"
Huang Yi turned to look at the little boy and then at Diya, nodded his head and said calmly, "Alright, I’ll leave. But for the sake of your child, please make sure to hide quietly before five o’clock in the afternoon and see for yourself what this town turns into."
Having said this, Huang Yi left the house to wander in the small town outside, waiting for night to fall.
...
Meanwhile, his Incarnation was strolling around in Northern Sea City.
Last night, after his Incarnation was attacked by stones from the ghouls, it simply left the Secret Realm because, apparently, no fighting was needed in this realm, and there wasn’t much use for the Incarnation to stay there.
Once his daily stay in Northern Sea City is less than twelve hours, he is deemed to be in a weakened position, so he decided to let his Incarnation stay in Northern Sea City, while his main body remained here to pursue this Second Transformation challenge.
As time ticked by, Huang Yi logged off to eat something and use the restroom until it was almost five o’clock in Secret Realm Time, when he logged back on, returning to The Second World.
His Incarnation reappeared in Northern Sea City, wandering around committing murders. Meanwhile, his main body was still in Blood Town, just outside Diya’s house, except hiding in Absolute Invisibility within the air.
"Why suddenly leave? This is the place where we loved each other; I don’t want to leave here." As soon as Huang Yi logged on, he heard Diya’s voice coming from the cabin.
"Then fine! My dear, the windows of our house are broken, and it’s very cold to sleep here at night. You should sleep in the cellar tonight! We’ll talk about moving tomorrow," just at that moment, the voice of the woman in the house came through, slightly nervous.
"Okay, then let’s go down to the cellar now!" Diya readily agreed to the request, followed by the sound of the cellar lid being lifted from the house.
"Uh... I have some things to do tonight, you go to the cellar, no matter what noise you hear outside, don’t come out until I come home tomorrow morning!"
"Where are you going tonight?"
"I... I have things to do."
"What’s going on?"
"I, I’m going to Kenna Lin’s house, her husband died a while ago, and she’s very lonely. I’m going to stay with her overnight."
...
Huang Yi stood outside the window, silently watching the argument between Diya and the woman inside the house.
By this time, Diya had become somewhat annoyed, seemingly not understanding why his woman had been acting so strangely towards him all day. His expression also carried a hint of fear, as if he truly feared that what Huang Yi had said to him over breakfast was true, that his woman had become a ghoul.
The sunset was about to fall, desperately casting the last rays of golden twilight slantingly upon the peaceful town. This was a time when households should have been raising kitchen smoke, sharing dinner, but the town was eerily quiet.
Finally, the voices inside the house came to an end, and the woman managed to persuade Diya to go into the cellar with the little boy.
After covering the cellar, the woman quickly moved the cabinet back over it, pressing it on top of the cellar entrance.
She stood quietly in the house, looking reluctantly at the cellar, as tears once again streamed down her cheeks.
The slanting rays of the sunset, coming through the window, landed on her, casting a long shadow on the wall. Her silhouette seemed incredibly fragile at this moment, the downturned posture, the tear stains on her face lit by the golden light, all spoke of the woman’s pain.
At last, she took a deep breath, quickly left the house, and locked the door from the outside. She rushed towards the outskirts of town, as if trying to get as far away as possible before she turned into a ghoul.
Suddenly, the house was empty, with only the last ray of the sunset lingering lonely, shining on the framed pictures on the table, on the photograph of the happy family of three. The woman in the photo was smiling so happily, so sweetly.
"Thud, thud, thud!" It wasn’t long before a series of sounds came from the cellar entrance, the sounds of someone trying to pry open the cellar cover, but it was impossible to open with the cabinet on top.
"Dear! What did you put on top of the cellar?" Diya’s voice faintly echoed from below.
Huang Yi thought for a moment, transformed into the form of a Treasure-Sniffing Cat, slipped through the window, then reverted to his human form, and pushed away the cabinet to reveal the cellar cover.
Only then did Diya manage to push the cover off and stick his head out. When he saw Huang Yi outside the cellar, his face changed suddenly and he yelled, "Damn thief, why have you sneaked into my house again!" He then quickly rushed out, drawing a dagger from his waist, ready to duel with Huang Yi.
"Don’t hurry!" Huang Yi grabbed the man’s wrist, used Disarm, and snatched the dagger away: "It’s almost five in the afternoon now. How about you quietly hide here and see what happens to this little town when night falls."
Upon hearing this, Diya glanced at the setting sun outside the window, bit his lip, and nodded, "Alright, I’ll wait and see. If you’ve lied to me, I’ll surely slaughter you alive!" He snorted coldly, pushed away Huang Yi, and went to a corner of the cabin to wait in silence.
The afterglow of the sunset gradually died out, the sunlight in the house became scarcer and darker, darkness, like a monster, slowly devoured the town, devouring every corner of the house.
Finally, the last trace of sunlight descended below the horizon, and the whole town welcomed the night!
Diya and Huang Yi looked out the window together, watching the crowd moving back and forth on the streets of the town.
Just then, the people suddenly stopped in their tracks, their bodies convulsing violently. They arched their backs, their skin writhing continuously, turning black and rotting, splitting apart to reveal masses of decayed flesh. In a short time, they transformed from human beings into ghouls.
All of this unfolded completely before Diya’s eyes!
At this moment, Diya was already stupefied. His mouth agape, he stared blankly out the window, watching those familiar neighbors and townspeople, all turned into those revolting ghouls, the kind of creatures he had killed countless times!
Just then, a ghoul suddenly walked towards them, about to discover them behind the window.
Huang Yi hurriedly reached out to grab Diya, pulling him down to crouch and hide in the shadow below the window.
When the ghoul got to the window, it peered inside for a while, even reaching its rotten arm through the window, waving it about.
That drooping arm, festooned with strips of decaying flesh, swung clearly before Huang Yi and Diya’s eyes. Every inch of the skin was visible, its decay unfolding before them, nauseating.
Finally, the ghoul, finding no food within, withdrew its arm and turned away. The outside became quiet again, only the sound of the ghoul’s retreating footsteps, uneven like a limping man. From various corners of the town, the howling of ghouls enveloped the night sky.
"Do you believe now?" Huang Yi turned his head to look at Diya, who was still in a daze.
