Chapter 708 - 679: Breaking the Game

Chapter 708 - 679: Breaking the Game

Having said that, Huang Yi immediately transitioned from the Treasure-Sniffing Cat’s Void State back into human form, emerging from thin air.

"Huh? Who are you? How did you get into my house?" Diya was taken aback and quickly stood between the sleeping boy’s bed and Huang Yi, watching him with a wary face.

"You don’t need to worry about who I am, you just need to know that I won’t lie to you." Huang Yi stared at Diya and looked outside at Blood Town under the sunlight, saying solemnly, "You must have also noticed that there’s something unusual about this town. Your wife, too, has been acting abnormally. In fact, they have all turned into ghouls."

"What a joke! You, who popped out of nowhere! How dare you slander my family." Diya cursed in anger, glaring at Huang Yi with fierce eyes, "I’ve been dealing with ghouls every day recently, I can tell what a ghoul looks like at a glance. My wife clearly has the beautiful appearance of a human, how could she possibly be a disgusting ghoul?"

Huang Yi looked calmly at Diya and shook his head, "During the day she is normal, but at night, she turns into a ghoul. I have seen it with my own eyes."

"Ha-ha!" Diya laughed as if he had heard something hilarious, scoffing, "Ghouls distinguished by day and night? I have never seen such ghouls! You, who sneaked into our house, what is your real purpose?" After saying that, he walked over unapologetically, seeming as if he was about to take action.

"The world is too vast for you to know every kind of ghoul; some are beyond your understanding." As Huang Yi spoke, he pointed at the sleeping boy on the bed and continued, "If you don’t believe it, you can ask your son what your wife has been doing these past few nights."

Upon hearing this, Diya stopped in his tracks, biting his lip. He hesitated, reflecting on the many abnormalities he had witnessed. After a moment, as if making a firm decision, he turned and walked over to the bed, reaching out to wake the little boy.

"Daddy!" The boy woke up and reached out his small hand, rubbing his eyes and calling out sweetly.

"Baby, what has mommy been doing at night these past few days?" Diya spoke, anxiously looking at the boy, fearing a dreadful answer.

"Mommy has been playing hide and seek with me every night. She tells me to hide in the cellar, no matter what noises I hear outside, I must not come out," the boy obediently replied.

"She made you hide in the cellar all night?" Diya frowned and confirmed again.

"Yes!" The boy nodded, his innocent, dark eyes looking at Diya, showing no sign of lying.

Upon hearing this, Diya closed his eyes.

His body trembled slightly, as if he had thought of something terrible. Warm sunlight poured in through the window, bathing him in its glow. This tall and valiant man seemed somewhat fragile and helpless at this moment.

"Maybe, maybe she had something else to do!" After a while, as if trying to convince himself, Diya finally opened his eyes, murmuring to himself.

Then, he turned his head to face Huang Yi, his expression turning cold, "Get out! Leave our house!" he demanded.

Huang Yi looked at the boy and then at Diya, nodded his head, and said calmly, "Alright, I’ll leave. But for your child’s sake, please make sure to hide yourself by five o’clock in the afternoon and see for yourself what this town turns into."

After that, Huang Yi left the house and wandered into the town, waiting for night to fall.

...

Meanwhile, his incarnation was strolling around Northern Sea City.

Last night, after his incarnation was attacked with stones by a group of ghouls, he simply left the secret realm, considering that there seemed to be no need for fighting, and the presence of the incarnation wasn’t particularly useful there.

Also, if he spent less than 12 hours a day in Northern Sea City, he would be deemed in a vulnerable position, so he let his incarnation stay in Northern Sea City, while his main body remained here for the Second Transformation challenge.

Time passed by slowly. During this period, Huang Yi logged off to eat something and use the restroom, until around five o’clock in the secret realm time. Then, he logged back in and returned inside The Second World.

His incarnation reappeared in Northern Sea City, wandering around and killing people. His main body was still in Blood Town, just outside Diya’s house, hidden in the air using Absolute Invisibility.

"Why would you want to leave this place? This is where we fell in love, and I don’t want to leave," Huang Yi heard Diya’s voice coming from the wooden house as soon as he logged on.

"Okay then, dear! Our windows are broken, and it’s cold at night. You all should spend the night down in the cellar. We can talk about moving tomorrow," a woman’s voice said from inside the house, slightly anxious.

"Alright, then let’s go down to the cellar now!" Diya quickly agreed to the request, and the sound of the cellar lid being opened followed.

"Umm... I have to go out tonight for some things, you all go to the cellar. No matter what noises you hear outside, do not come out. I will be home in the morning!"

"Where are you going at night?"

"I... I have some things to do."

"What things?"

"I... I’m going to Kenna Lin’s house, her husband died a while ago, and she’s very lonely, I’m going to stay with her overnight."

...

Huang Yi stood outside the window, silently watching the quarrel between Diya and the woman in the house.

At this point, Diya was already somewhat annoyed, seemingly unable to understand why his woman had been acting so strangely towards him all day. And there was a tinge of fear in his expression, as if he was truly afraid that everything Huang Yi had said to him at breakfast was true, that his woman had turned into a ghoul.

The sunset was about to fall, desperately casting its last sliver of golden afterglow askew upon this peaceful little town. It should have been the time when every household was preparing dinner, but the town was unusually quiet.

Finally, the noise inside the house died down, and the woman managed to convince Diya to take the little boy down into the cellar.

After securing the cellar, the woman quickly moved the cupboard back on top of it.

She stood quietly in the house, her gaze lingering on the cellar, with two trails of tears rolling down her eyes.

The slanting sunrays, filtering through the window, cast a long shadow of her on the wall. In this moment, her profile seemed incredibly fragile: her bowed head, the tear streaks illuminated by the golden light, they all spoke of the woman’s pain.

At last, she took a deep breath, quickly left the house, and locked the door from the outside. She rushed towards the outskirts of town, as if trying to get as far away as possible before she turned into a ghoul herself.

Instantly, the room was empty, leaving only the last lonely beam of sunset shining in, highlighting the photo frame on the table, shining on the picture of a happy family of three. The woman in the photo was smiling so happily, so sweetly.

"Thump, thump, thump!" Before long, sounds of prying at the cellar lid came from below, but with the cupboard on it, it couldn’t be pushed open.

"My love! What did you put on top of the cellar?" Diya’s voice faintly arose from below.

Huang Yi thought for a moment, transformed into Treasure-Sniffing Cat, slipped in through the window, and then changed back to human form to push the cupboard aside, revealing the cellar lid.

Only then could Diya push open the lid and stick his head out. When he saw Huang Yi outside the cellar, his face turned pale, and he scolded, "Damned thief, why have you broken into my home again!" He quickly bolted out, drew a dagger from his waist, and prepared to fight Huang Yi.

"Hold on!" Huang Yi grabbed the man’s wrist, used Disarm to snatch away the dagger, "It’s almost five in the afternoon. Why don’t you quietly hide here and see what changes will happen to this town after night falls."

Hearing this, Diya glanced at the setting sun outside the window, bit his lip, and nodded, "Alright, I’ll wait and see. If you’ve lied to me, I’ll carve you up alive!" He snorted coldly, shook off Huang Yi, and walked to a corner of the cabin to wait quietly.

The afterglow of the sunset gradually faded away, the sunlight in the house grew scarcer, darker, until finally, the darkness devoured the town like a beast, swallowing every corner of the house.

Finally, the last trace of sunlight disappeared behind the mountains, and night fell upon the entire town!

Diya and Huang Yi looked out the window together, observing the crowds walking back and forth in the town’s streets.

Just then, those people suddenly stopped in their tracks, their bodies convulsively twitching. They arched their backs; their skin writhed and turned black and decayed, splitting open to reveal clumps of rotting flesh. In no time, they had all turned from human to ghouls.

All of this unfolded in plain sight before Diya!

At this point, Diya was already in a daze. He gaped, his gaze fixed on the outside, watching as familiar neighbors and townsfolk all transformed into disgusting ghouls, becoming the creatures he had slaughtered countless times!

Just then, a ghoul approached their direction, about to discover them behind the window.

Huang Yi quickly pulled Diya down, making him crouch and hide in the shadows below the window.

After the ghoul came to the window, it peered inside for a while and even stretched its rotten limb through it, flailing it around.

With its flesh dangling, the arm swayed clearly in front of Huang Yi and Diya’s eyes. Every inch of its skin was viscerally visible; the rot bloomed before them, nauseating.

Eventually, the ghoul, realizing there was no food inside, withdrew its limb and left. Outside, it became quiet once more, save for the ghoul’s fading footsteps, irregular as a limp. From the corners of the town, different ghouls’ roars cloaked the night sky.

"Do you believe it now?" Huang Yi turned to look at Diya, who was still in a daze.

Sorry, it’s just one update today; I owe three now.

My writing state hasn’t yet recovered, and I have a bit of a physical issue too, a hidden pain near the left lower rib, and my eyes are very dry and sore, especially when staring at the computer screen. I’ll go for a checkup in a few days. (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, your recommendation tickets and monthly votes on Starting Point (qidian.com) are greatly appreciated.
