Chapter 254 255 The Bestie's Betrayal!

Chapter 254 255 The Bestie's Betrayal!

Just as she was about to call Qin Long, a WeChat voice call came in.

Seeing it was from Jiang Tiantian, she hurriedly answered.

"My dearest Tiantian, what's up so late?" Tang Xuewu asked with a playful smile.

"Xuewu, has Qin Long not come home yet?" Jiang Tiantian's voice sounded rushed.

"Not yet. He said he was going out to buy something but hasn't returned. Are you looking for him for some reason?" Tang Xuewu was confused, wondering when Jiang Tiantian had become so curious about Qin Long.

"It's nothing serious. I was just at my family's jewelry store and the staff told me Qin Long ordered a wedding ring and a necklace set. I found it a bit strange, so I thought I should let you know…" Jiang Tiantian explained after a moment's hesitation, deciding to tell her the truth.

Upon hearing this, Tang Xuewu was shocked at first, then smiled with a bittersweet helplessness. That fool must be planning a surprise for me.

At that moment, she felt incredibly touched. Even though I don't know how much he spent, at least he's always thinking of me. I would be content even if it were a wedding ring worth just a few dozen yuan.

"Is that so?" Jiang Tiantian sounded skeptical. "Xuewu, be careful. Money can corrupt a man. That guy has a sizable private stash now. And that female guard of his, Zi'er, has a top-tier figure and face. Sparks could definitely fly between them. You need to watch out. After taking care of him so selflessly for three years, it would be a huge loss if you let some little vixen snatch him away!"

Tang Xuewu couldn't help but laugh. "Your Highness Tiantian, you worry too much. He definitely bought it for me. I'm getting sleepy... so sleepy... Nighty-night. Oh, wait. I think that's Qin Long's car pulling up now."

After ending the call, Tang Xuewu quickly went to open the door.

"A'Long, why are you back so late?" As soon as Qin Long pushed the door open, he was met with the sight of Tang Xuewu's pretty face, a hint of anger on it.

"I ate dinner out and then went for a walk to get some exercise," Qin Long explained, scratching his head as he came up with an excuse.

"Didn't you say you were going out to buy something?" Tang Xuewu asked.

"No, the item wasn't any good, so I didn't get it," he replied. "Xuewu, staying up this late is bad for you. You should get some sleep." Qin Long looked at her with tender concern.

Tang Xuewu's heart instantly turned cold.

Could it be that he didn't buy the wedding ring for me? Or... is he keeping a mistress?

She bit her lip, standing frozen on the spot, feeling as if she had just lost something precious.

But I have no right to interfere if he likes another girl. After all, our engagement is only verbal; we haven't registered it at the civil affairs bureau. I have never even told anyone that Qin Long is my fiancé. I saved him out of pity, out of the kindness of my heart. In truth, I've never really seen him as a member of the opposite sex, let alone felt any love for him. Yet now, the thought of him holding another woman in his arms fills my heart with a pang of displeasure.

Tang Xuewu couldn't stop herself from asking, "A'Long, is there something you've forgotten?" she said, her head lowered as she nervously fidgeted with the hem of her pajamas.

"Oh, right…" Qin Long slapped his forehead, turning to her with a smile.

"What is it? Tell me, quick!" Tang Xuewu trotted over, her beautiful eyes shining with excitement as she bit her red lip in anticipation.

"Do you remember that guy, Zhang Bin, who used to harass you? Does that ring a bell?" Qin Long asked, scratching his head.

"Yes…" Tang Xuewu nodded, looking puzzled. "My mom gave me a terrible scolding because of that."

"Well, I taught him a harsh lesson for you," Qin Long said excitedly.

"Oh…" Tang Xuewu pursed her lips, a wave of disappointment washing over her. That wasn't what she had been expecting at all.

"Is there anything else?" she asked, blinking with confusion.

"That's it," Qin Long said with a wave of his hand. "I'm a bit tired. I'm going to sleep."

Tang Xuewu quickly walked toward her bedroom.

It feels like Qin Long is deliberately hiding something from me. Something just isn't right. Seeing his nonchalant attitude, however, only made her feel more disappointed.

Qin Long was curious and wanted to ask what was wrong, but then he heard her angrily slam the bedroom door shut.

Just then, a video call from Xiao Lingyue came through.

"Yue'er, any leads on the Snow Heart Grass?" Qin Long asked before she could even speak. He was anxious to find it and recover his health as soon as possible, his heart filled with anticipation.

Hearing his question, Xiao Lingyue sighed helplessly.

"Don't worry, take your time," Qin Long said, waving his hand to reassure her.

Xiao Lingyue would certainly take his request seriously. So, the lack of news didn't mean she wasn't trying her best; it just meant the herb was incredibly difficult to find.

"Brother Long, I do have some news," Xiao Lingyue said after a brief pause, patting her chest to assure him. "I promise I will help you get an herb of sufficient age."

"Good."

Qin Long gave her a few more instructions before ending the video call.

Xuewu dreams of me being able to stand again. I have to make it happen.

Qin Long slowly gazed at the peaceful night sky. The stars were incredibly beautiful. The Tang family's small courtyard, unlike larger estates in bustling areas, was very tranquil.

Qin Long's life had always been spent in the heat of battle, friend against foe. Back then, he knew no fear; he was invincible. But now, he had grown accustomed to this quiet life, especially the moments spent alone in his room, reflecting and making plans.

Xuewu... she isn't swayed by money or power. All she wants is for me to be able to stand up like a real man. Thank you, Xuewu.

Qin Long took out the beautifully crafted box containing the diamond ring he had bought to propose to Tang Xuewu. He then glanced at the pill whose medicinal properties were insufficient.

Although it was not old enough, there was still a small chance it could help him recover. However, if it failed, recovering would become nearly impossible. Therefore, Qin Long wouldn't take it unless he had no other choice.

But today, he felt an impulse to try it anyway. After all, there were only forty-eight hours until the fiftieth-anniversary celebration. He desperately wanted to walk up to Tang Xuewu and propose to her.

Looking at the wedding ring and the darkened pill, Qin Long was torn.

Should I risk it?

Qin Long had never so much as frowned during countless vicious battles in the past, yet now he was truly conflicted.

"A'Long, are you asleep?" Tang Xuewu's voice suddenly came from outside the door.

Qin Long hurriedly hid the items under his pillow.

"Just about to!" he replied, a little flustered.

"Then I'm coming in."

Dressed in her pajamas, Tang Xuewu's figure was as graceful and tall as ever. She carried the basin for his massage, filled with traditional medicine, and set it down.

"Xuewu, you're still awake?" Qin Long asked, puzzled.

"I had an expert prepare some traditional medicine for you today to help repair your meridians," she explained. "It got cold, so I just warmed it up in the kitchen. I have to apply it personally while I massage you for it to be effective."

Tang Xuewu moved with a familiar skill honed over three years of practice. This was why, even when Qin Long had been in his dazed state, he was always kept impeccably clean. It was all thanks to her meticulous care.

She skillfully picked up a soft candy from nearby. Back when Qin Long was unresponsive and wouldn't cooperate, she would use these to coax him. With practiced ease, she moved to help him take off his socks.
