Chapter 332: Volcanic Ash

"Volcanic ash?" Rong Xian frowned. He turned and looked at Master Luo who nodded and replied, "There is a small volcano from here around thirty or sixty metres away. It will take some time but we can get it."

Rong Xian nodded in response and turned his attention to the woman in front of him. Ruan Chanchan seemed to be lost in her own thoughts and did not seem to be paying attention to him at all. And this did not sit well with him. He wanted her to pay attention to just him and him alone. He reached out and caught her wrist before tugging her toward him.

Startled, Ruan Chanchan turned to look at the mer who had tugged her toward him and raised a questioning brow. She could not understand why the mer was pulling and tugging her for no reason. "Your highness?"

Her voice snapped Rong Xian out of his reverie and he let go of her wrist. He said to her, "It’s nothing. You want us to find volcanic ash? I will get it for you."

"...okay?" Ruan Chanchan frowned even harder. She could not understand why the mer was speaking to her as if he was telling her that he was going to bring her the sun and the moon. However, she still suppressed her confusion and nodded in response because who was she to go against the royalty? She was not a dumb fool who would stick out her neck like that.

Rong Xian smiled at her dotingly. The fact that Ruan Chanchan had stepped back was enough to prove that he still had a chance to make her stay with him. He leaned forward and said to her, "Then you stay put for me."

Ruan Chanchan: "..."

If she was confused earlier, she became even more confused after hearing his words. What did he mean by ’stay put’? Where could she even go?

However, Ruan Chanchan did not dare to question the mer. She simply let him do whatever he wanted.

Rong Xian let go of her and Ruan Chanchan rubbed her wrist with a slight wince. Even though the mer was not holding her too tightly, his grip had still left some marks on her skin. However, as soon as he arrived at the royal grotto, he saw many of the elders sitting in the centre. They were currently busy cleaning up their scales and only looked up when Master Luo cleared his throat. When the elders saw Master Luo, they suddenly turned serious and put away their casual air.

"What is that we are hearing? Why is the prince getting chummy with that woman from the big bear tribe? I heard that he even asked her to be his consort! Why ask a woman of her calibre to be the consort? She is not even a totem warrior. I have heard all about her; she is just some little woman with some tricks up her sleeves," said one of the elders peevishly. He had been asking the prince to take his daughter as his consort for the longest time but the mer had refused again and again.

He quoted that he was too busy and couldn’t take care of a consort for the time being. So why was it that all of a sudden, the prince was willing to take in another woman as his consort?

Where did he put his face as the elder by doing such a thing?

Master Luo knew that this was going to happen. Even though it looked like the tribe was under the prince and the queen’s control, and the elders’ power was limited, these people still had a few supporters who were willing to spy for them. Thus, he was not even surprised that they knew that the prince wanted to take Ruan Chanchan as his consort and mate.

"That weak woman has her own skills, something that you all will never be able to understand," explained Master Luo with a sigh. He could not understand why these elders could not get something so simple in their heads.

"But Master Luo—"

"We will discuss this matter later on," said Master Luo with an authoritative tone. He turned his attention to the totem warriors whom he had asked to come and see him. He said to them, "The prince has commanded that you all need to collect volcanic ash from the bottom of the volcano. Make sure that you finish this journey in a matter of a few days. This task is quite urgent."

The totem warriors frowned and looked at one another. They had never heard a task so weird as this one. After all, they had never been asked to collect volcanic ash before. One of the leaders of the teams could not help but ask, "...Master Luo, why do we need to collect the volcanic ash? We can’t even eat it. It’s basically a waste of our energy when we can use this energy to kill a beast for game."

As soon as she finished speaking, one of the elders snorted and said, "It must be the request of our dear guest. Since when did the prince started paying attention to such things anyway, am I right?" He questioned Master Luo with a proactive look on his face.
