Chapter 225: Who Exactly Are You
Chapter 225: Who Exactly Are You
After untying Jenny, Xu Xiangbei asked suspiciously, "Why do so many people want to harm you? Who are you really? And who are they?"
Xu Xiangbei began to doubt Jenny’s identity.
That night, two motorcyclists attempted to attack Jenny. What initially seemed like a regular robbery turned out to be a planned kidnapping.
Today, in the room at Wanlong Hotel, she was tied up again. But this time, the people who tied her were clearly not ordinary thugs—they were foreigners in high-end suits, carrying pistols with silencers, obviously mafioso-type gunmen.
Jenny picked up a gun from the floor and tucked it into her belt, smiling charmingly and adorably as she kissed Xu Xiangbei on the cheek. Her soft and warm lips made Xu Xiangbei forget all the questions he wanted to ask.
"Thank you, Dr. Xu, you saved me again. It’s best if you don’t know my identity—for your own good."
Xu Xiangbei looked around the room with a bitter smile: "I came here to rescue Gu Xinyan. I saved you, and you’re out of danger, but what about Gu Xinyan? She wasn’t in room 2901, so where is she?"
Jenny asked in confusion, "Oh, is there someone else like me who got caught in the hotel?"
"Not necessarily caught, possibly tricked into coming here, a girl in a wheelchair."
Jenny chuckled, "As thanks for saving my life twice, I’ll do you a small favor."
Jenny strode into the corridor and smashed the glass of a fire alarm with the butt of her gun, pressing the fire alarm switch with a smile.
Immediately, the corridor was filled with the sound of fire alarms, making the hotel guests think there was a fire. They rushed to open their doors and ran out.
Xu Xiangbei quickly spotted Gu Xinyan in the chaotic crowd, sitting in a wheelchair, looking panicked and lost. However, Liu Yuxing was nowhere to be seen as she awkwardly maneuvered the wheelchair forward.
The corridor was crowded, and many people were sprinting to escape the fire alarm. In their haste, they kept bumping into Gu Xinyan’s wheelchair like billiard balls, causing her to lose control and crash into the wall.
Amid the chaotic crowd, she was pale with fear, constantly letting out startled cries.
When the fire alarm sounded, the elevators stopped working, and everyone had to use the emergency stairwell.
Faced with numerous steps, Gu Xinyan was so anxious she began to cry. A tall man ran past her and, seemingly annoyed that her wheelchair was blocking the way, flashed a fierce look and grabbed the wheelchair handles, ready to push her down the stairs.
Suddenly, he felt a strong force hit him, sending him flying like he was on a cloud, tumbling down the stairs like a ball.
Xu Xiangbei steadied the wobbling wheelchair that was about to roll down the stairs and gently comforted Gu Xinyan, "Don’t be scared, I’m here."
Gu Xinyan was already terrified, holding her head and sobbing. When she heard Xu Xiangbei’s voice, she stared at him blankly, not understanding how he appeared out of nowhere.
Her heart, which had been pounding in her chest, calmed down. She pressed Xu Xiangbei’s warm hand to her face, and like a child, burst into tears with trembling shoulders.
Xu Xiangbei felt her cold tears and picked her up, walking down the stairs.
Back in the first-floor lobby, Xu Xiangbei gently placed her on a soft sofa, with a reproachful expression, "Who told you to run out without my permission? See how dangerous it was! If I hadn’t found you in time, you’d probably be lying in a hospital right now."
Gu Xinyan’s eyes were still a bit red and swollen, looking pitiful as she said, "I’m sorry, I was wrong."
Xu Xiangbei didn’t blame Gu Xinyan but grew angry with Liu Yuxing. If it weren’t for him calling Gu Xinyan, she wouldn’t have sneaked out.
"Where is Liu Yuxing? I ought to give him a good beating. How could he leave you alone in the hotel?"
Gu Xinyan held Xu Xiangbei’s hand, explaining for Liu Yuxing, "It’s not his fault. I wanted to practice with him for tomorrow’s audition. We were rehearsing when he got a call and left, telling me to wait here. Who knew a fire alarm would happen?"
Xu Xiangbei frowned. He initially thought Liu Yuxing had booked a room with bad intentions, but it turned out they were rehearsing. Did he wrongly accuse the guy?
Having realized it was a false alarm, the elevators started up again. Xu Xiangbei returned to the 29th-floor stairwell to get Gu Xinyan’s wheelchair.
Just as he got the wheelchair, several hotel security guards, on high alert, ran up from the stairs, their walkie-talkies buzzing, "Three armed suspects have been captured, three armed suspects captured."
Xu Xiangbei hid behind the emergency exit door and peered through the gap. The three thugs he had knocked out were captured, tied up, and escorted into the elevator by the security.
They appeared weak, with vacant eyes, still dizzy, clearly not fully regained consciousness.
Xu Xiangbei slung the wheelchair over his shoulder, humming a tune as he returned to the downstairs lobby, where he found Liu Yuxing crouched in front of the sofa, holding Gu Xinyan’s hand with a concerned look on his face.
Without any courtesy, Xu Xiangbei kicked Liu Yuxing in the backside, knocking him aside, and placed the wheelchair heavily in front of him, "Kid, if Gu Xinyan hadn’t spoken for you, you’d be in for a beating right now."
Liu Yuxing, knowing he was wrong, didn’t dare to complain after the kick, explaining with a wry smile, "There was an urgent matter on set. I had to rush back. Who would’ve thought there would be a fire alarm? I rushed back after receiving a call from the hotel. As long as Xinyan is okay."
"If I hadn’t arrived in time, you’d be in big trouble."
Gu Xinyan returned to her wheelchair, reluctantly bidding farewell to Liu Yuxing.
On the way back to the apartment, she rubbed her hands together, a lingering question in her mind: "Brother Xu, how did you know I was at Wanlong Hotel?"
Xu Xiangbei scratched his head, grinning cheekily, "I was just passing by, a chance encounter."
Gu Xinyan, quick-witted, took out her phone and turned it on, piecing together the answer.
A hint of blush appeared on her pale face, "You didn’t put a tracker on my phone, did you? You’re invading my privacy."
Seeing his cover blown, Xu Xiangbei responded helplessly, "If I hadn’t invaded your privacy, how would I have known where you were, or been able to save you?"
Gu Xinyan pouted, closing her room door, and called out from behind it, "Thank you for saving me, but invading my privacy is wrong, I protest."
Xu Xiangbei sighed with a bitter smile, "I had no choice, you ran out without a word, you had me worried sick. I had to find you any way I could."
Gu Xinyan hid behind the door, she wasn’t truly upset. Her face was full of smiles. Hearing Xu Xiangbei say he was worried for her filled her with gratitude.
