Chapter 224: Be Careful Behind You
Chapter 224: Be Careful Behind You
The receptionist checked the computer, frowned, and didn’t find any guests registered under the names Liu Yuxing and Gu Xinyan.
She shook her head helplessly: "Sorry, there are no guests registered with those two names."
Xu Xiangbei immediately noticed a water stain left on the nearby marble floor by a mop, with a clear trace of a wheelchair’s steel rim passing by, confirming they had checked into Wanlong.
He continued to ask, "Perhaps they used different names to register. Gu Xinyan is a beautiful woman in a wheelchair. Do you remember her? She should have just come in, the beauty in a wheelchair?"
Disabled people registering for accommodation aren’t an everyday occurrence. Xu Xiangbei’s probing triggered a memory for the receptionist, but she hesitated, internally struggling with whether she should disclose the room number to Xu Xiangbei.
She ultimately chose not to reveal it, shaking her head with a troubled expression: "But I don’t remember what name they used to register. It’s currently peak time for checking out and checking in."
Xu Xiangbei’s mind had a sudden flash of insight; Liu Yuxing would definitely go to great lengths to hide his identity and had registered with an alias, or perhaps with his real name, Liu Yuxing being merely his stage name.
Recalling the photo in Xiao Lin’s album, Xu Xiangbei hurriedly asked the receptionist: "Please check if there is anyone registered under the name Liu Zhi."
The receptionist checked and indeed there was: "Yes, there’s a guest named Liu Zhi. He checked in two hours ago."
"Which room is he in?"
The receptionist looked a bit troubled: "Sorry, our hotel policy doesn’t allow me to disclose his room number unless you have police credentials, but I can call to have him come down to meet you."
Who set this annoying rule? There was no choice but to comply with this regulation. Xu Xiangbei smiled and said, "It’s alright, I’ll wait here for him. You can call him and say an old friend is waiting."
The receptionist dialed the number registered under Liu Zhi, but no one answered, and likewise, no one picked up when she called the room phone. Xu Xiangbei became quietly anxious.
He sincerely pleaded with the receptionist: "The girl in the wheelchair is my girlfriend, and I’m worried she might encounter bad people. Please tell me their room number."
The receptionist felt conflicted, seemingly empathizing with Xu Xiangbei. She could see the sincerity in his eyes. Her beautiful eyes glanced around, noticing several surveillance cameras in the lobby aimed at her.
She knew that according to regulations, she shouldn’t disclose the information. However, she swiftly jotted something down on a notepad, pretending to toss it into the trash bin, but instead dropped it outside. She gave Xu Xiangbei a knowing look.
Xu Xiangbei understood her intention, felt a surge of joy, and blew a kiss at the receptionist. He picked up the note beside the trash bin, which revealed the room number: 2901.
The corridor was empty, with a richly patterned red carpet laid on the floor, soft and clean, and vibrant paintings were hanging on the walls, adding a unique ambiance.
Xu Xiangbei reached the door of room 2901, pressing his ear to the door to listen for any sounds inside.
Practicing "Spiritual Light Scripture" had heightened Xu Xiangbei’s senses a hundredfold compared to ordinary people. Despite the thick door, he could clearly hear the sounds inside.
He heard a woman calling out indistinctly, clearly muffled because something was in her mouth. There was also a man’s rough voice: "You managed to escape last time, let’s see how you die this time."
Not good, Gu Xinyan was in danger; she had been kidnapped.
Xu Xiangbei was anxious, noticing not far ahead a cart used for cleaning rooms.
The cart was neatly arranged with bedsheets and toiletries, along with a white work uniform.
A room door was open, with two service staff in white uniforms cleaning inside.
Xu Xiangbei casually walked by the cleaning cart, stealthily swiping the white uniform and several toiletries.
The uniform was somewhat large, feeling like an opera robe on him. Holding the tray with the toiletries, he lowered his head and knocked on room 2901’s door.
A deep, rough voice inside said: "What do you want?"
Xu Xiangbei smiled and said: "Sir, your room needs cleaning. Please open the door."
A loud shout followed: "Get lost! The room doesn’t need cleaning."
Xu Xiangbei insisted: "Sorry, this is our job. Please open the door and cooperate so I can clean the room."
The man’s roar echoed: "I don’t need cleaning. Get lost, are you looking for a beating?"
"Sorry..."
A man as strong as a mountain suddenly opened the door, pointing at Xu Xiangbei’s nose and cursing: "Are you deaf..."
However, waiting for him was Xu Xiangbei’s powerful uppercut, landing heavily on the man’s chin, sending him flying through the air like a cloud walker, crashing into the living room’s coffee table and smashing it to pieces.
Xu Xiangbei gently nudged the door shut with his toes, immediately rushing inside.
Earlier he heard at least three people inside; besides the man knocked out, there were two tall foreigners in smart Versace suits sitting casually on the living room sofa, engrossed in their phones.
Seeing their comrade suddenly knocked down, the two were startled, quickly reaching inside their jackets.
Xu Xiangbei noticed the black grips at their waists, shocked to realize they were reaching for guns. These weren’t petty thugs; who exactly were they?
There was no time to discern their identities; a moment’s hesitation would mean the guns were drawn and firing.
Xu Xiangbei’s hands moved swiftly; two shining Iron Gall Balls dropped into his palms, and with a flick of his wrist, they flew like meteors, striking the two gunmen’s foreheads with heavy force.
They had already drawn pistols with silencers, gazing directly at Xu Xiangbei, yet simultaneously rolled their eyes and collapsed.
All three were knocked unconscious, while from the bathroom came banging and urgent pounding, apparently Gu Xinyan was tied in there, hearing the fight outside and calling for rescue.
Xu Xiangbei swiftly opened the bathroom door, finding a girl tied up in a wheelchair, and as he caught sight of her face, he exclaimed in surprise, "Jenny, how are you here?"
Jenny’s expression was much calmer than his, displaying a serene and relaxed smile upon seeing Xu Xiangbei.
Xu Xiangbei mentally groaned; he came to find the wheelchair-bound Gu Xinyan, but these guys had kidnapped Jenny, placing her in the wheelchair. The receptionist recalled Jenny in the wheelchair, mistakenly mixing Feng Jing and Ma Liang.
Just as he yanked the towel from Jenny’s mouth, she shouted in panic, "Watch your back!"
Like he had eyes on his back, Xu Xiangbei grabbed the water tank cover from the toilet and hurled it backwards, knocking the approaching large man unconscious once again.
