Chapter 161: Do Not Affect My Work
Chapter 161: Do Not Affect My Work
Holding her sister’s hand, Gu Xinyan looked a bit worn out, but very happy: "Sister, you usually take care of me, and when I get to take care of you occasionally, I am very happy. When I can stand up and walk, I won’t need you to take care of me, instead I will take care of you, help you manage the company, and do everything within my power for you."
Seeing her sister being so considerate, Gu Xiangyi’s eyes reddened. She rubbed her temples, remembering she was wearing stockings when she went to bed, and suspiciously asked her sister: "Did you take off my stockings and cover me with a blanket?"
Gu Xinyan paused, waving her hand: "No, it wasn’t me. Yesterday, when Xu Xiangbei pushed me into your room, you were already asleep with a blanket over you. Could it be him who took off your stockings?"
Gu Xiangyi’s face flushed, nearly down to her neck, feeling slightly miffed inside, thinking, "Darn, let that guy take advantage." She checked her qipao and lingerie, still intact on her body, and finally felt at ease.
"Where is Xu Xiangbei?"
"I don’t know, he went out this afternoon and hasn’t returned yet."
Gu Xiangyi mocked contemptuously: "Definitely went crazy at some nightclub again."
Gu Xiangyi took a shower, changed into a blue professional suit, and drove to work.
In the Xiangyi Group office, she, as usual, turned on her computer and started her day’s work. There were two orders for purchasing raw materials on the desk, and from the order, it seemed the prices had risen again.
However, if they could sign a chip contract with Dragon Tiger Group and have them pay more in advance, it would alleviate the financial pressure.
Secretary Xiao Yan knocked on the door: "President Gu, a relative from your family has come."
A distinctive sound of high heels came from the doorway as Sun Xiaoli leisurely walked in, her son Gu Jie following behind.
Gu Xiangyi felt a jolt in her heart, remembering that Sun Xiaoli had said yesterday she would come to the office today to discuss letting Gu Jie take the president position.
She thought that perhaps Sun Xiaoli was just talking and wouldn’t come so soon, but she didn’t procrastinate at all, coming just as work started.
With an LV bag in hand, Sun Xiaoli carried a proud and disdainful expression: "Xiangyi, I brought Ah Jie to tour his future office; it doesn’t disturb your work, right?"
They had already entered, seemingly asking Gu Xiangyi’s permission, yet before Gu Xiangyi could agree, the two were already roaming around the office.
Gu Xiangyi kept a cold face, helplessly saying: "Aunt, you can look around as you like."
Little did Gu Xiangyi know that her laid-back attitude would result in intensified harassment.
Aunt Sun Xiaoli complained while looking around, and she touched the wall blackened by age: "Oh my, this office is so old, Xiangyi, you should get someone to repaint it. Ah Jie is a top student from New York University and shouldn’t have to work in such a shabby office."
Gu Xiangyi simply couldn’t focus on sifting through the files. She didn’t reply, only rolled her eyes at her aunt.
Sun Xiaoli directly walked up to her desk, tapping on it, then disgustedly wiped her fingers clean with a tissue.
"What kind of table is this? The surface isn’t even wiped, sticky and full of dust, who knows how many bacteria it’s got."
"This sofa needs replacing too; it’s peeling, how many years has it been used? Anyone who sees this would say our Gu Family lacks class and taste."
Gu Xiangyi frowned, irritated by her aunt’s words, and impatiently responded: "Our company is currently tight on funds. Every penny counts, and these office furnishings still work. Let’s save where we can and put up with it."
Sun Xiaoli exchanged a look with Ah Jie and sneered: "No matter how tough it gets for our Gu Family, we mustn’t act this shabby. I don’t really think you are suitable as the president of Xiangyi Group, lacking the aura of a leader."
Gu Xiangyi retorted: "Then tell me what having aura is like. Do you mean squandering a million in material fees at a casino shows aura, or using salary funds to buy stocks and losing half shows aura?"
What Gu Xiangyi mentioned were the unsavory acts that Gu Chengjun had committed in the past, causing quite a stir, which led to the old man appointing Gu Xiangyi as president to run the company.
Bringing up the past,
stirred her aunt Sun Xiaoli’s fragile emotions, her face turning suddenly vicious.
She looked coldly at Gu Xiangyi: "Gu Xiangyi, don’t be too smug. The old man has agreed for our Ah Jie to be the president. You’d better smartly step down."
Gu Xiangyi sharply countered: "Alright, but this isn’t something you can decide with a word. We need to convene a board meeting and follow procedures."
Sun Xiaoli snorted: "Don’t make it sound so formal. It’s really a family matter. I’m speaking on behalf of your uncle, second uncle, and your grandfather. He asked you to comply, so just do it without needing to have a board meeting. If you insist on having one, it will only embarrass you. Better to quietly step down and keep some dignity."
"This isn’t a family matter; it’s official business. Official business is done officially. Unless the board dismisses me from the general manager position, I am the general manager and president of Xiangyi Group. Sorry, Aunt, it’s work hours now, and it’s inconvenient to entertain family visits. Please take Ah Jie back home."
Seeing Gu Xiangyi ordering them to leave, Sun Xiaoli flew into rage, her lips trembling with anger.
"You’ve turned rebellious, you little brat, actually daring to talk back to me. Ah Jie, see this? Your cousin’s wings have grown hard, and she doesn’t regard us relatives."
"If you don’t leave, I’ll call security."
Angry, Sun Xiaoli took Ah Jie and left, but Gu Xiangyi bit her lip silently, feeling downhearted. She knew they wouldn’t let this rest, and her president position was really in jeopardy.
She sighed lightly, touched the peeling office desk, and looked at the familiar surroundings suddenly feeling strange, as it all didn’t belong to her anymore, about to change owners.
Xiao Yan came running over with a tense expression: "President Gu, the chairman is here and wants you to go to the conference room."
Gu Xiangyi’s face changed: "My grandfather is here? I understand. You can go about your business, I’ll head to the conference room now."
Gu Xiangyi felt her body trembling as if she was about to collapse. She could hold off Sun Xiaoli’s aggressive stance and even manage to expel her from the company, but with her grandfather’s arrival, she had no confidence.
On the way to the conference room, she thought of a compromise, hoping her grandfather would agree.
She pushed open the conference room door, inside sat several people.
She smiled and greeted her grandfather: "Grandfather, you came! Hello, grandfather, hello everyone."
Second Uncle Gu Chenggang and Second Aunt Shang Xiaohong were sitting on the left side of the conference table. When Gu Xiangyi entered, they exchanged disdainful glances and wore expressions of schadenfreude.
