Getting away with the Alpha's Pup

Chapter 90

Chapter 90

Cherry

At the restaurant.

"You must be kidding!" I rolled my eyes at Bill.

"Hey, I mean it! You could've been a master chef if you chose to learn cooking in France back then." Bill didn't like like he was joking.

“You mean a designer trained in Berlin is less cool than a chef trained in Pari...” I was about to challenge him as Dylan's figure unexpectedly appeared in my sight. He walked in here, with a she-wolf!

As shock surged in me, I got completely distracted by what I saw.

“That woman...I don't think she's a Starsmoon pack member. Is Dylan...seeing someone?” I asked my wolf.

“What's it to you even if he is? You don't want him back anyway.” She mocked me.

“Cherry?” Waving his hand before my eyes, Bill turned around and followed my gaze to the corner where Dylan and his date were seated.

“You okay, Cherry? Do you want us to eat somewhere else?” Seeing through my mind, Bill proposed gently.

“Huh, why? We're having fun here. This place is great, and we're almost done with dinner.” I forced a smile while reaching for the flute glass with champagne, but almost knocked it over.

“Are you sure everything's fine?” Bill looked very concerned.

“Yep. Couldn't be better! Where were we just now?” I pretended to be cool, trying to suppress the ripples boiling in my stomache.

Making sure that I was all right, Bill resumed our chef talk cheerfully. Yet none of the words pouring out of his mouth could make their way into my ears. All I could see was his lips moving up and down.

I just couldn't get Dylan and that woman off my mind. My eyes kept throwing a glance at them now and then.

“He was just asking me to take him back hours ago. Yet here he's with another woman now?!” I whined to my wolf, a bitter smile forming on my lips.

“Cherry?” Bill called for my attention again.

“Huh, uhm… I'm sorry.”

“Shall we call it a day?" He beamed an understanding smile. "You look tired."

"Sure!" Bill's suggestion was really like a life-saving straw, at which I clutched immediately.

***********

Back at the Lune pack house.

I looked up to the second floor as Bill helped me off my coat in the lounge.

“Let me go and check on the kids. I'll meet you in your office later. We need to talk, don't we?”

My feet moved towards the stairs after Bill nodded.

After putting away the book in Fern's hand and tucking her in, I turned to Oliver, who was sleeping peacefully in his cradle.

A mix of emotions rose in me as I examined their cute faces. Though a blessing to my life, they kept reminding me of their father.

“I promised that our family will be together again, but it seems impossible now. Your father and me, we just can't find our way back to each other, my pups.”

After pressing a gentle kiss on their foreheads, I left for Bill's office.

"Ran into something tough?" Looking at the exhaustion on Bill's face, I handed him a cup of coffee.

“No, everything's alright.” Bill forced an assuring smile. “How's your wolf?”

“My wolf?” I didn't expect Bill would go straight to the point. "S-She's mute now."

“You don't try to hide anything from me, Cherry. I know your wolf is getting weaker.” He looked into my eyes.

“It's okay. I bet she will be good with you being around.” I tried to convince him that I could handle my wolf.

“Maybe we should stop making things hard for you and your wolf.” Standing beside the French window with his back facing me, Bill said suddenly.

“Bill...” I mumbled nervously.

“Why don't you take Dylan back?”

“No." I shook my head hard. "I won't just leave Lune. I've grown to love it.”

"You have?" Bill was surprised.

"Yes, Bill. We'll work things out, I mean things between you and me. Just give us more time." I cupped his cheeks and reached for his lips, but end up being rejected.

"I really appreciate your efforts, Cherry. But I can see how you and your wolf suffer tremendously when you saw Dylan with another woman." Bill turned back and held my shoulders tightly. "Maybe we should think again before pressing ahead."

Frustration sipping through me as I hated the idea that Bill was putting in my head.

Shaking off his hands, I turned on my heel and stormed out of his office.

With my mind gone haywire, I didn't realize where my feet were taking me, until I found myself standing in front of Starsmoon's pack house.

“What are you doing in bringing me here?!” I snarled at my wolf after snapping back to reality.

“Cherry?” That familiar baritone voice sounded out of nowhere, at which my heart clenched.

“We missed him so much, Cherry!” My wolf finally spoke to me again.

“What are you doing here, Cherry? Are you here for me?” Dylan asked gently in surprise.

Failing to tell my true feelings, I allowed him to take me into his arms numbly.

“What happened, hunny?” Dylan pulled up my chin, not knowing his last word infuriated me.

“Hunny? Stop it! You call me hunny when you're seeing someone else?!”

“Seeing someone else?! I don't understand what you're talking about.” Dylan retorted as if I had wronged him.

"I saw you at the restaurant earlier today." I said through gritted teeth.

"Oh! you mean Bella?!" Dylan chuckled. "I'm not dating her. She's a potential investor in Starsmoom's wood business. Wait! Did you just get jealous?!"

"Dream it! I'd never..." Before I finished, Dylan had kissed me on my lips, bolting my wolf to its full strength.

“I'm sorry for everything, Cherry. But I love you. I have always been in love with you.” Dylan was about to drown me with another shower of kisses when my phone rang. It was from Bill.

I froze after hanging him up, my face as pale as a sheet.

“What is it?” Dylan felt the fear spiraling through my wolf.

“It's Fern. Bill said Fern's gone!” I could barely hear myself as I mumbled.
