Chapter 86
Chapter 86
Dylan
By the time Bert and I rushed to the bedroom, there was already no trace of Chelsea.
“Have all patrollers along the border watch out for Chelsea! She could be escaping!” Bert ordered Jason through mind link.
“Rummage through her belongings!” My instinct reminded me just before we dashed out of the room.
When I was digging around in the bedroom, a vial fell out of Chelsea's purple purse.
"Dylan!" Bert rushed over and picked the vial up. "Where did you get that?!"
"You know this vial?" I turned to him in confusion.
“It's wolfsbane.”
"Wolfsbane? You sure?!" My eyes widened.
"I cannot be more sure!" Bert's jaw clenched. "It looks exactly the same as the one we found during the war against Bloodmoon!"
"Bloodmoon?" I felt a total mess in my mind.
"Yes. After finding Cherry your true mate, you rejected Lucy, daughter of Bloodmoon's Alpha."
"I did?" I still couldn't believe my ears.
"Out of humiliation, they started a war to take revenge against us, when Lucy used wolfsbane on Cherry." Bert continued after giving me a nod.
"We found a vial exactly the same as this one in Lucy's clothes in the battleground." Bert gave me a meaningful look. "No one thought you could get it, because Cherry's symptoms hadn't appeared on you."
“You mean I lost my memory because of this wolfsbane?” My eyes bulged.
"Yes. The pack doctor detected it in your body when it first acted on your brain."
"But why's Chelsea having it now?" I was completely clueless.
"No idea. But I think we must send this vial for a composition test right away." With that, Bert was already outside in the yard, waiting for me by the car.
******
In the pack hospital.
"Give our Alpha a body examination." Bert ordered after we handed the vial to the doctor.
"What do you mean?" I felt kind of offended.
"We need to make sure the wolfsbane in your body hasn't increased since it was first detected, Dylan."
"You mean Chelsea has been using it on me as well? Relax, Bert. Chelsea is not Lucy." I thought Bert was making a fuss about it, but finally agreed to take the examination under Bert's uncompromizing gaze.
"Chelsea may not be a competent Luna. But there's no reason she uses wolfsbane against me, unless..." I tried to pull Bert's sense of reason back while waiting for the result.
"Unless she wants to prevent you from recalling anything!" The pack doctor picked up my line and showed me the report. "We detected a few content pikes of wolfsbane over the past week, Alpha."
Looking at the report result, my hands fisted into balls as I stormed out of the hospital.
Out of whatever purpose Chelsea did this, I'd never let her go!
Stepping on the gas to the fullest, I drove straight towards the Whitemoon Pack, only to get blocked by Jason when I was only one kilometer away from the border.
“What the hell are you doing?” I snarled. "Get out of the way!"
“Beta Bert asked me to stop you here.” Jason was unyielding. "You'll leave our territory over my dead body!"
"Dylan! Stop!" Bert caught up with me when I was about to grab Jason by the collar. "I understand you're furious now. But you cannot just go to Whitemoon and confront Chelsea alone! It's risky!"
"Risky?!" I smirked. "This word shouldn't come from the mouth of a Starsmoon member!"
Bert sighed. “You may not know it yet, but Starsmoon has become way much weaker since you lost your memory, especially after you rejected Cherry.”
“What?!” I couldn't believe my ears.
“We can do nothing about Chelsea for now. There is no way we can win a battle against the Whitemoon Pa...”
I felt a strike of pain wrecking my brain as Bert went on.
Cherry!
The wolfsbane!
Berlin!
Fern!
The battleground!
Maldives!
The silver dress!
Our new baby!
...
An overwhelming amount of familiar scenes flooded back into my mind with my both hands clasping my head.
"Dylan! Are you all right?" Bert stopped when noticing something wrong with me.
“Bert, I remember it all now. It's Cherry. Cherry's my true mate…" Slowly opening my eyes, I turned to Bert.
He was quick to help me keep my balance as I stumbled back to my car.
“Really?! You recalled everything, Dylan? I cannot believe it!" Tears welled up in Bert's eyes. "Nuu-Chah blesses Starsmoon! We need to go back right now. Cherry needs to know this great news!"
"S-She's not in Starsmoon any longer. Cherry...she left with Bill early this morning." I stuttered in guilt.
"Oh." Bert was surprised but soon regained composure.
Obviously, he understood Cherry's choice. I had been way too cruel to her. To my true mate.
"We'll go get her back right now." Bert patted on my shoulder while heading towards the car.
"Do you think Cherry'll f-forgive me...ever?" I asked for Bert's opinion tentatively.
"I'm not sure. But I know that Cherry values Starsmoon. The life of each pack member means everything to her. That's what makes her a great Luna." With these assuring words, Bert stepped on the gas and drove towards the Lune Pack.
*******
In front of Lune's pack house.
"Hey sir, I'm here for Cherry. Could you please ask her out?" I greeted the guard at the gate.
Instead of answering my question, the guard sized me up and down before finally speaking.
"Alpha Dylan? One who had a fight with my Alpha earlier today?" He smirked. "You're not welcome here!"
"Hi sir, we really need to see Cherry. She's our Luna..." Bert tried to talk into the guard doing us the favor.
"Was! She was your Luna. Mind your words." The guard was acting high and mighty. "Make an appointment with Alpha Bill and visit another day.”
"But there's something urgent she needs to know!" I shouted at the guard as Bert dragged me to the car.
“Let's just do as he says, Dylan. I'll schedule an appointment right after we got back home.”
“What do I need to know?” Cherry's familiar but cold voice sounded just as Bert and I was about to leave.
“Let me take it from here. They won't hurt me. Don't worry.”
My footsteps froze the minute I turned back and saw Cherry talking gently to the guard.
“What are you doing here?” She asked, still in a flat tone.
I intended to take a step closer to her, but stopped at her cold gaze.
“I-I recalled everything. Y-You're my true mate, Cherry.” I tried to keep my voice steady while looking into Cherry's eyes.
Her expression remained aloof, without any slightest surprise I had been expecting.
“C-Chelsea had been using wolfsbane on me, t-to prevent my memory from coming back. She's manipulative. I can see that now.”
My words only earned a scoff from Cherry. Seething anger was firing up in her eyes.
“Starsmoon needs you. The pack members need their Luna. Come back with me, okay?” I begged. "And I-I need you, too."
“Well I don't think I need you anymore, Dylan. Just go back to take care of the pack. Nuu-Chah blesses Starsmoon.”
With that, Cherry shut the gate of the pack house behind me.
