Chapter 228
Chapter 228
Fern's Perspective
He should have been unconscious, but in that moment, he was like a demon returning from hell, furiously tearing through every enemy in his path. His body was still drenched in blood, with deep gashes on his back, exposing bone, yet he ignored the pain and ran toward me with single-minded determination.
My heart raced in my chest, and once again, tears slipped down my face.
"Fern—!"
He roared, throwing the last of the black-clad men aside and enveloping me in his arms. In that instant, it was as if I had truly come to life.
But before we could catch our breath, Elena's laughter echoed in our ears.
"You really moved me, but…"
She slowly raised the remote control in her hand, her eyes gleaming with twisted malice. "The game ends here."
My pupils dilated in horror.
"Bomb countdown activated."
Red lights blinked to life, and a sharp alarm blared from inside the warehouse.
"No!"
Without hesitation, Giovanni scooped me up in a horizontal hug and, in an instant, shifted into wolf form. He bit down on Daniel's collar, and with terrifying speed, charged us toward the exit.
Boom-!!!
The explosion reverberated behind us, and flames instantly consumed everything in its wake.
I was gripped in Giovanni's wolf form, my collar clenched in his teeth, my body lifting into the air and hurtling toward the warehouse's exit by the force of the blast. Daniel was curled tightly in my arms, his face buried against my chest, trembling with fear. The flames roared around us, and just as we were thrown clear, the entire warehouse erupted in a violent explosion. A blinding red light seared into my vision.
In the split second before I was thrown from the building, I saw Elena standing amid the flames, her eerie smile still intact as her figure was consumed by the inferno.
The roar of the blast was deafening, and the air reeked of scorched earth. I hit the ground hard, rolling several times before managing to stabilize Daniel in my arms, desperate to shield him from harm. The heat crashed over me, waves of it pummeling my face as I struggled to lift my head, my eyes frantically scanning for the one person I needed to see.
Where is he?
He was still inside!
"Dad!" Daniel screamed, reaching toward the explosion, his tears streaming down his cheeks.
My heart clenched, and instinctively, I tried to rise and rush back. But the fire was too fierce, the warehouse door already engulfed in flames. The building shook, and black smoke swirled up like a demon's gaping mouth, greedily devouring everything inside.
"No… no…" I muttered, my voice trembling. Tears blurred my vision, but my body, stiff from shock and horror, refused to move.
He won't die. He can't die…
But if he really…
Just then, a massive shadow shot out of the flames!
A wolf!
His wolf form!
My breath caught, and for a moment, it felt as if time itself had frozen. A massive black wolf, its body scorched by the flames, its fur charred and singed, stood before me. His paws dug into the earth, clearly exhausted, but he rushed toward us with the last of his strength, his golden eyes fixed on me with an intensity that spoke of desperate obsession.
"Dad!" Daniel cried, his voice filled with relief.
We had made it.
Just as I thought we were safe, ready to exhale in relief, Giovanni's body jerked violently before collapsing heavily to the ground.
"No—!"
My scream ripped through the night air.
He was hurt.
The shockwave from the explosion had torn into his back, leaving deep wounds that bared his bones, his fur blackened and blood pouring from the gashes, leaving a trail of red in his wake.
"No…!" My heart twisted in agony, and I rushed toward him.
He staggered a few steps before collapsing a few meters away.
When I reached him, I realized that the aftermath of the explosion had scorched his back, blood streaming from his wounds. I could feel his body growing colder by the second.
I had just forgiven him… How could he leave me now?
No! I won't let this happen!
"No!" I dropped to my knees and threw my arms around his wolf form. His body was burning with fever, his heartbeat barely a whisper, his breath ragged and weak.
"No… please don't do this, please… look at me, look at me…" I shook him, my hands trembling as I tried to keep him conscious, unable to stop touching his wounded back.
He opened his eyes, just a crack, and his golden pupils locked on mine. His mouth lifted slightly at the corners, a weak attempt at comforting me, but no sound escaped him.
"No, no! You can't sleep! You can't sleep!"
Tears fell freely as I shook my head in horror, his body growing heavier and colder with each passing second, and my world seemed to crumble with him.
"Tobias!!! Tobias!!!"
I almost hissed his name, desperate.
The sound of wolves growling filled the air, and in the next instant, Tobias and his warriors appeared, their faces pale as they took in the wreckage of the warehouse and Giovanni lying on the ground.
"Quick! Take him away!" Tobias barked, his voice thick with urgency.
He quickly shifted back to his human form, tearing off his jacket and wrapping it around Giovanni's battered body. His warriors surrounded them, lifting Giovanni and sprinting toward the hospital, carrying him with all the speed they could muster.
