Chapter 153 - 151: You’re Even Playing Mind Games
Chapter 153 - 151: You’re Even Playing Mind Games
The Desolate God had just leaped, attempting to fly low, when its fleshy, bat-like wings were torn off.
The blood of the Chaos Creature, a substance like mud and smog, rained down from mid-air.
’Hmph. Trying to escape?’
The Wolf-eared Maiden yanked the Devourer straight out of the air and began to unleash her murderous instincts.
Tossing aside her Silver Sword was of no consequence; her own body was the ultimate weapon.
Fists, feet, elbows, and knees... Functionally, they were no match for the fangs and claws of a Chaos Creature, which were made for slaughter. Yet, the reality was that the Dirt World Desolate God was on the receiving end of a one-sided beating.
"BAM—BAM—BAM—"
Flesh met fist, bones cracked, and its form was destroyed. Each of Mivana’s punches landed with what felt like tens of millions of tons of force. The Devourer’s hard shell and muscles shattered under the savage assault, only to be hammered again mid-regeneration.
When Westheid arrived, he didn’t waste a moment. He flung out the Flame of Extinction with his Shadow-Born, cutting off the Devourer’s retreat with a Fire Wall as he shouted a taunt:
"You fucking piece of shit! You like to run, do you? This is the first time I’ve ever seen a Chaos Demon try to flee. Have you no shame? No shame at all!"
The Devourer’s shocking escape had nearly scared Westheid out of his wits. The entire premise of his decapitation plan hinged on the fact that "Chaos Demons always fight to the death." That was supposed to be a given. Chaos Demons, regardless of Tier, were all supposed to be fearless in the face of death.
Because in the concept of Chaos Undivided, there is no such thing as death. Life and death are one and the same—so what was there to fear?
Even though Westheid was a hardcore player of "Poem of Destiny," he had never heard of a Chaos Demon that would just run away without even fighting.
The sheer absurdity of it made him laugh in exasperation.
The Desolate God pathetically fended off the rampaging Wolf Girl’s assault, its monstrous face nearly beaten to a pulp, yet it still responded with a booming laugh:
"This is what makes me different from my brethren. I must preserve this useful body so that I can better serve my mission!"
Westheid said coldly, "A pity you still can’t escape... Aren’t you going to unleash your Desolate God form? You’re slow-playing your best hand, and it’s making me impatient."
The true power of a Dirt World Desolate God lay in its ability to commit a form of suicide to unleash its "Desolate God" form, which would instantly corrupt the surrounding Domain and fully release its Chaos essence.
Westheid cautiously kept his distance, wary of the Devourer suddenly entering its second phase and taking him out with a single combo.
"Don’t be impatient. There’s no need to rush. I don’t intend to burn myself out just yet."
The Devourer was being beaten half to death by Mivana, yet it still showed no intention of unleashing its Chaos essence. Instead, it stared at the Beast-eared Maiden’s impossibly cold face. Scarlet cracks bloomed across her pale skin like spider lilies, and the mere sight of them inflicted a painful sensation, as if one’s own flesh were being sliced and stripped away.
"So this is the power of a primogenitor, fused with the poison of Order? If my death can bring about the advent of a new primogenitor, then it would be a worthwhile trade."
"BAM—"
Mivana’s fist broke through the Devourer’s Armor again, smashing in half of its skull. Her voice trembled as she spoke:
"I’ll make this quick. Once I kill you, I’ll end this state. Nothing else will happen."
"Don’t listen to his trash talk. You can’t be corrupted,"
Westheid said.
These weren’t just empty words of comfort. It was true that Mivana could not fall and become a Chaos Source God. Perhaps when she was first born, the curse might have had that potential. But now, the Source Blood had long since fused with the Wolf-eared Maiden’s own bloodline, becoming an inseparable part of her.
Mivana was, through and through, an Order Creature. Even in the original timeline where she became the Heaven-Devouring Wave, she merely became bloodthirsty; it had nothing to do with becoming a Chaos Source God.
"Kill me... kill me... Hahaha, you’re really confident, aren’t you? But killing me won’t be that easy."
The Devourer cackled madly as it pathetically parried Mivana’s onslaught:
"You never would have imagined it. I sent a great army to bypass your defensive lines. By my calculations, they should be arriving just about now. Your fragile little base is completely exposed."
"!!!"
Westheid: "What did you say?!"
Mivana was so stunned that for a split second, her concentration wavered, allowing the Devourer to escape her pin.
The Desolate God dragged its mangled body into a hasty retreat, shook its head, and let out a raspy cry:
"Haha... Hehehe! That’s the look! I just love seeing that expression on a mortal’s face!"
"You never imagined a primordial creature would use one of the ’schemes’ you’re so proud of. You never even considered the possibility, not even of the crudest and simplest of tactics. That is why I was willing to be tainted by the poison of Order. Exchanging power for wisdom... it was more than worth it!"
Westheid frowned. "Are you trying to bluff me?"
The Devourer opened its gaping, bloody maw and spat out a foul mixture of what might have been plasma or magma. It then plunged a sharp claw into its own skull and began to stir vigorously:
"Hehehe. Do you think I’m lying? To be honest, I’d love to lie. But unfortunately, the taint of Order’s poison isn’t strong enough in me for that yet. Concealing my true purpose was the absolute limit of my ability."
"Or, you could gamble that I’m lying. But she... seems to have bought it."
Mivana halted her assault. The Wolf-eared Maiden’s golden-red eyes, blazing with murderous intent, were locked on the Desolate God, a gaze that could flay it alive.
The Devourer, however, paid her gaze no mind and continued in a haunting tone:
"There are certainly plenty of selfish people among mortals. But I have seen from the eyes of my brethren that you are not that kind. On the contrary, you are both filled with... hmm. You have a ’sense of responsibility,’ and she has a ’sense of justice.’ Those are the correct terms, are they not?"
The Desolate God spread open its claws, woven from flesh and blood, and said:
"Mortals who care for the weak... How wonderful. As long as you have a weakness, you can be manipulated at will. So, choose. Will you hunt me down, ignoring everything else? Or will you return to save your companions?"
Duke Qinghui took a deep breath and said to Mivana, "We must retreat for now. The decapitation plan has failed..."
"Oh, right. I should also mention: the moment you leave this Chaos Domain, I will lead my army on an all-out assault. I wasn’t sure about it before, but since you value those other mortals so dearly, my hand is forced."
The sadistic Dirt World Desolate God continued, twisting the situation into an even more impossible dilemma.
’Goddammit! I can’t believe a Chaos brute like you knows how to play mind games!’
Westheid never would have imagined that the Devourer’s intellect had reached such a level. It was practically indistinguishable from an Order Creature!
’I’m begging you Chaos Creatures, act like you’re from Chaos! Don’t let the dregs of Order contaminate your pristine nature!’
What infuriated him even more was the fact that if a Desolate God truly launched a reckless, all-out assault, the fragile Qinghui Territory currently had no way to counter it.
Westheid alone was no match for the Desolate God. The only one who could possibly defeat the Devourer was an all-out Mivana.
"Then, there is only one way left... Teacher West, please go back. Do everything you can to hold off the Demon Tide."
Mivana let out a faint sigh. She turned her head, her golden eyes tainted with crimson but holding onto their last shred of clarity. She said:
"As for me, it is time to walk my Knightly Path."
Westheid immediately realized what Mivana wanted to do.
’She’s going to further unleash her instincts, embrace the curse, and march into the Chaos Domain. She’ll pay the price of eternal madness to destroy the Chaos Domain entrenched in Purity Forest.’
’Just as she’d said before—if she succumbed to her bloodlust, she would turn herself into a suicide bomb and take Chaos down with her.’
’This course of action... was the only solution left.’
Westheid was silent for a moment, then said to Mivana:
"This disaster is the result of me underestimating the enemy. I will fulfill my promise. I will wake you from your rampage."
With that said, Westheid turned and left without the slightest hesitation.
