Chapter 250 – Meeting Under a Flag of Peace 01.

[Chapter Size: 2400 Words.]

Third Person POV.

King's Landing.

...

...

The army of the Blackfyre pretender advanced the following morning, continuing its march for several more hours. Even though they were already within sight of King's Landing, because the army was so large, with gigantic animals and dragons, it took hours to cover just a few kilometers.

The army on Daemon's side, outside the walls of King's Landing, was on alert. Everyone ran from one side to the other, preparing their weapons and shields. On the walls as well, men ran back and forth, placing baskets of arrows for each of the archers who were beginning to take their positions.

Spears and large shields began to be prepared, with men forming a first line of defense. With the enemy army so close, everyone was already preparing for a possible battle, so they would not be caught by surprise.

Daemon was observing everything from one of the balconies of the Red Keep. The balcony was so large that he was not alone. Besides Val, there were Lord Stark, Robb, Lord Tallhart, Lord Glover, Lord Manderly, Mance, Ygritte, Tormund, Lord Baratheon, Ser Davos, Lord Tully, Lord Blackwood, Lord Mallister, and other lords who were part of the army's command, also appreciating the view of the enemy.

Daemon was at the parapet, looking over the center of all those people, his eyes faintly glowing, able to see far more than a common eye should. He wanted to avoid using the warg ability; certainly his eagles were flying close to the army, and crows were already always watching the conversations among the enemies, but in front of all of them, he only used more subtle abilities.

"Your Majesty, shouldn't we already be there? What if they attack us?" asked one of the lords of the Riverlands, sounding cautious.

But Daemon shook his head. "No. They won't launch the attack like this. We now have hostages and they are waiting for the attack from the sea to arrive... Lord Mace Tyrell joined his sons last night and is cautious about attacking as well and, at the same time, furious. His eldest son is with us." Daemon's voice was calm and even mocking, while everyone kept their eyes fixed on the enemy army.

"Well, in any case, let's prepare ourselves. They will want a meeting under a white flag to negotiate initially and talk about the hostages..."

While everyone watched, they quickly prepared themselves. The lords' men were already preparing the horses down below. Daemon put on his armor and would select only a small group, since the enemy would not have more than five members.

Thus, the obvious choices were Lord Stark, Robb, Lord Baratheon, Lord Tully, Mance Rayder, and a spokesman, along with Val who had insisted on going with him.

Not only him, but all the commanders would also be going to the front of the army, prepared for any unexpected action from the enemy.

The people of King's Landing were quite frightened at this moment. The entire horizon filled with lines of enemies. The people had never seen a possible war with so many people.

Westeros had never seen so many people, basically 300 thousand people were preparing to kill each other...

The dragons also began to resound in the sky. Winter saw that as a challenge. She herself left the Dragonpit and began to fly over the city, roaring at the two dragons that were also roaring from afar.

This made the people even more uneasy...

Daemon's horses, along with his guards — including Ser Sandor Clegane of the Kingsguard and other men — advanced, protecting the king.

The city watched them with a certain caution and questions in their eyes.

They could understand all of this. They were afraid. An even greater war was about to break out in front of their gates when they had just come out of another one almost a moon ago.

But he continued on with his horse and some giant wolves, crossing the streets until reaching the south gate.

The north gate, which had been destroyed by Winter, had already been blocked, the stones replaced and a new gate installed. Even so, it was much easier to break through that one than to try to invade the south gate. However, with the army positioned on that side, the Blackfyre army had no choice but to remain in that position and face the enemy.

The horns began to sound, with men carrying banners of the three-headed dragon advancing, flanking Daemon as he exited through the gate.

The army soon began to gain a certain morale with the king appearing, wearing his armor — the same armor with which he conquered King's Landing. He advanced as well, ready for battle.

Those men had been led by Daemon many times, always taking them to victory. Daemon had never lost a single battle since the North, passing through the Riverlands, Pyke, the West, and King's Landing. He conquered all those territories with his command. Even when he had to fight alone at times, he always opened the way for the army to pass and win.

So those men began to gain confidence. They roared for Daemon as he passed to speak with the commanders who were taking care of the first line of defense.

"They can be louder than Tormund..." Ygritte murmured from right behind.

She saw people shouting for Daemon, both among the army in their area and on the walls, while the archers raised their bows in celebration and the trumpets continued announcing the arrival of the king.

Daemon moved forward with his group, beginning to give orders to the men who would not be in the main command.

"My king!" A rider came running toward him at that moment. His men stopped him, but Daemon asked them to let him approach.

"News from the sea?" Daemon already suspected.

"Yes, a large fleet is approaching. Perhaps only a day away." The messenger said.

"I see... Let them come." Daemon said unconcerned.

Well, certainly they must have conquered Dragonstone. But the Lannisters and the Boltons had already sent all the ships available for the war of King's Landing to the North, trying to invade Winterfell.

Daemon still remembered the twenty ships full of Bolton men, along with Lannisters, in a desperate attempt to enter Winterfell and kidnap Daenerys, who was pregnant. Daemon saw the plan discussed between Tywin and Roose Bolton, and simply went with Winter and destroyed all the ships mercilessly.

The men died directly in the white flames or in the frozen sea he left behind. No one had survived.

He had also destroyed Stannis's fleet in the north, but that no longer mattered.

In any case, the ships of the Golden Company should come to them.

"By the gods... what is that?" Some men shouted when they saw something emerging in the enemy army.

Giant creatures, much larger than any horse or man, were marching.

"They decided to bring the elephants by land. Those are the elephants of the Golden Company," Daemon said calmly while looking at the giant elephants marching along with the men.

"Yes, but who said they are the only ones to have giants?" he added.

He looked at several giants, 29 of them with only one having fallen dead during the conquest of the city. They were preparing iron shields that several men had begun to make for them in the last few days, precisely to create a heavy force. There were giant spears as well.

He had put more than a hundred blacksmiths to arm all the giants in the last few weeks. He could not make a full suit of armor, but he managed to place a breastplate and a helmet on each of them, at least to protect them from fatal arrows.

It was not a perfect force, but it was certainly more destructive than any heavy cavalry.

Some could bring down those giant elephants if they joined together to kill them. The elephants might be a little bigger, but those giants have enough strength to drive their spears straight into the faces of those giant elephants.

Daemon watched as the army finally began to stop, about eight hundred meters away. Orders were carried out and they began to set up a large camp.

Then came the flag of peace.

"That's our cue. Let's go, men," Daemon said while checking if the sack he had brought with the gift was tied to the horse.

He began to advance. Sandor Clegane came close to Daemon as a Kingsguard, and Val as well, while keeping her Valyrian steel sword ready to be drawn at any moment.

Tormund was someone Daemon made a point of calling to go along, after all it would be good to have someone with Tormund's tongue with them.

The son of Tytos Blackwood also came, serving as Daemon's spokesman in King's Landing. He followed holding the banner of the three-headed dragon, red on a black background. He would be the herald.

Lord Stark, Robb, Lord Tully, Lord Baratheon, and Mance Rayder also advanced.

There were, in total, 9 people in Daemon's group, moving forward with the flag of peace and the Targaryen banner.

On the other side, also using the Targaryen banner itself and another flag of peace, came a young man wearing silver armor with the Targaryen symbol. At his side came a Kingsguard who was none other than Jorah Mormont.

On the sides also came two people carrying the banner, but Daemon could not identify who they were. However, he knew that the people were behind Aegon Blackfyre himself.

There was Varys, wearing his typical eunuch robes, with a calm half smile on his face. Jon Connington had a fierce look. Harry Strickland, leader of the Golden Company, was leading the unit of elephants.

Mace Tyrell came along with Garlan Tyrell. Loras seemed to have been forbidden from coming to this meeting. Lord Tarly was also near them with an indifferent and stern look.

Meanwhile, on their side was also Princess Arianne Martell.

There were also 9 people in total. The groups walked at a calm pace to meet in the middle of the battlefield.

"It seems that some houses of the Stormlands have turned to this Blackfyre pretender..." Daemon said while looking at the banners of some houses. There were also houses from the Crownlands that were with Blackfyre as well.

Daemon turned his gaze to Stannis.

"Traitors," the Baratheon grumbled.

"They will be dealt with later. But for now, let's see what our Blackfyre has to say," Daemon said, finding it amusing as they approached.

Now everyone could clearly see the face of each group.

It was a contrast. Aegon had white hair and lilac eyes, wearing silver armor.

Daemon came with black armor with red traces. His hair was black like Stark's own, and his eyes were a dark purple, much deeper, but also shining.

They finally stopped about five meters from each other.

No one said anything at first, while the horses made some uneasy sounds. Both sides stared at each other, each one letting their gaze travel across the other group, studying them.

Some had calm expressions. Others were clearly curious. Others were boiling with anger and looked with disgust.

The sound of the dragons echoed both above the city and above the enemy camp. Even the armies themselves seemed a little uneasy with that small meeting in the middle of them.

Daemon stared straight at the Blackfyre.

Compared to him, Aegon was just a little boy. Daemon should be about 3 or 4 years older. His very way of looking and moving had been forged by all the battles and wars he had fought from Skyrim to Westeros, so he had a much sharper gaze than his enemy, who seemed only like a boy trying to appear strong, but who in reality did not compare to Daemon at all.

He could also see that even some noticed that.

Mace Tyrell was there with an enraged look, almost red, staring at Daemon as if he wanted to kill him. Receiving the news that his son had been captured inside Highgarden had left him deeply disturbed.

Not only had a dragon invaded his castle, his home and his seat, but it had also captured his heir and his beloved alleged son.

Garlan, however, seemed to frown. He certainly looked uncomfortable, but there was also a bit of curiosity in his gaze. As a knight, he had heard about Daemon's feats. Many said he won his battles with magic, but Daemon Targaryen was known for having faced famous and powerful men from all over Westeros, and also for having toyed with each of them as if all of it were merely entertainment.

And Garlan knew that posture and that look.

Daemon feared nothing.

Arianne Martell also had a gaze full of hatred toward Daemon, but she could also see the clear difference between him and Aegon. That made her frown, realizing that the man in front of her was far more dangerous than anyone she had ever seen.

No one else had received news about her uncle and since Daemon seemed perfectly fine, that could only mean something... And that black sack with a round shape, tied to the side of the horse, made the Dornishwoman understand that perhaps it was not a simple content inside.

Oberyn's own bastard daughters had wanted to be at the meeting, but they were prevented because that would break protocol. Even so, Arianne had no doubt that if it really were her uncle's head there, they would advance to kill Daemon at that very moment.

Arianne also felt disturbed. She did not know whether her uncle had been captured and killed or if he was waiting for another moment to attack Daemon, since he was standing there perfectly fine.

Daemon once again turned his gaze to the Blackfyre.

"Well, what do we have here? A Blackfyre... You have been a long time without setting foot on these lands, I imagine this is, what? I would say your sixth rebellion..." Daemon said loudly enough for his voice to echo across the plain where they stood, breaking the silence that had formed between them.
