Chapter 231 – Conquering King’s Landing 02.

[Chapter Size: 2100 Words.]

Third Person POV.

King's Landing.

...

...

The dragon flew over the city toward the castle, like the night before. But this time, Daemon rose, preparing to jump from Winter's back himself, getting ready until he reached the ideal point.

He leaned to the side, still atop the creature, ready to leap, and as soon as he reached near the towers of the Red Keep, he pushed off and began to fall in free fall.

Winter continued forward while Daemon was left behind.

Daemon was not in danger even falling dozens of meters into the middle of the castle, nor did he remain in the air for long, because as soon as he activated one of his Alteration abilities, two green squares formed around him, beginning to spin over one another.

The next moment, he stopped falling abruptly and began to glide, descending slowly. It was an Alteration ability.

As he calmly descended toward one of the open areas inside the Red Keep, without any difficulty, he reached the council chamber through one of the openings in the ceiling. He landed lightly, and the magical circles began to fade away.

"Well..." he said, looking around the room where the meetings that decided the future of the Seven Kingdoms were supposed to take place. But it was completely empty at this moment.

He had been there a few times the first time he went to King's Landing, secretly spying on meetings back then. Now, he had come to take it for himself.

He began walking toward the door, opening it as he entered the castle. The corridors were filled with people running from one side to the other, servants shouting and guards preparing for a possible war.

Outside the castle walls, he could hear the screams of the crowds gathered at the entrance.

Daemon moved forward through the crowd in the corridors. No one in that corridor had any idea that the enemy leader was walking among them calmly. Some looked at him with curiosity, but did not hold their gaze for long, fearing the dragon that was still circling the castle with roars that made even the Red Keep itself tremble.

Daemon showed a certain amusement as he passed by lords and knights here and there, while no one really imagined that he could be there, heading directly toward the throne room.

In the battles within the city, the Northern army was finishing off the last resistance. Robb led a group of Northerners, fighting some enemy spearmen on the left side of the city, until he encountered a group advancing with Bolton banners.

"Father! The Boltons are here! No, they are fleeing!" Robb shouted to Ned on the main street, mounted on a horse, who was farther away, leading the rest of the men along the main road.

Ned looked at him in surprise, but only thought without saying anything at first, unlike Robb, who saw his father weighing whether it was worth hunting the Boltons in that chaos.

"The Boltons are here, father. I will deal with them. Let me deal with them!" Robb shouted, anxious.

"No. I will prepare a force to go there after we finish here." Ned said.

"No, father, you don't understand. They're going to flee. Let me deal with them. Stay here in command and continue leading the army of the North. I only need a few troops!"

Ned looked at his son for a moment until he finally gave in to the request. "Very well, take the mountain clans and the men of Skagos!" Robb immediately advanced with more than three hundred men.

Val advanced along the city's main line, with Sandor staying close to protect her, following the other knights. The Lannisters were all throwing their weapons to the ground as they surrendered, more and more as they went deeper into the city.

After Daemon killed Kevan, the structure of the enemy army broke.

They reached a certain street when Stannis, at the front of everyone, raised his hand for them to stop.

"This is the limit. We cannot go past here," he said.

Daemon had informed all the leaders about the locations where there was wildfire within the city, and if they moved forward, they could be caught by explosions.

"Let's go around, but we won't get too close. Let's wait for the king to act," said Brynden Tully, also leading the knights of the riverlands.

People ran from one side to the other, looking at them on their horses, frightened, while the Lannisters were all cornered in one spot, with their swords on the ground.

Some of the cavalry stayed behind to wait for the allied infantry to arrive, to place everyone into custody and control the situation.

Mance was with that infantry, leading them to suppress any resistance that had been left behind or anyone who tried to do something foolish — and there were many like that scattered throughout the city.

At a certain point, they were taken by surprise by archers hidden inside the houses. The windows suddenly opened, and men began firing crossbows and bows, massacring part of the army of the free folk that was unprepared for it.

They even filled a giant with arrows. In his final moments, he began breaking down doors and walls of the tightly closed houses, while the free folk invaded the interiors, massacring the crossbowmen and archers mercilessly.

Even those who dropped their bows after the attack received no mercy. Daemon had made that very clear, do not spare anyone who attacked and took a life from their army.

The giant finally fell to the ground, dead, but not before destroying several houses, all because of a band of fools who believed they had any chance of surviving after that, and ended up being completely annihilated.

In desperation, perhaps, the remaining archers hidden in the nearby houses did not attack again, and remained concealed.

"Let's continue," Mance said angrily, having to leave the dead giant behind. The other twenty-nine still advanced, now with even more fury, using wooden doors or anything large enough to protect themselves from arrows.

As the street was taken by the free folk, attacking any sign of archers, the others watching from a distance quickly realized that the plan was suicide and did not attack again, praying for everything to end so they could somehow escape.

Meanwhile, in another corner of the city, Robb rode through the streets, while people ran from one side to the other, hiding or staying in the corners of houses and buildings so they would not be trampled. He saw Roose Bolton with his troops marching through the city. They were retreating toward the castle.

"Damned coward," Robb growled.

There were Lannister men also following Roose. Some men stopped, dropping their swords and raising their hands in surrender. Robb ignored them, leaving it for the next commanders to deal with.

He advanced, raising his sword and pointing forward. "With me, men! Forward!" he shouted.

Immediately, his men followed him, advancing with full force against Roose Bolton, who looked back when he saw the cavalry of 300 men from the North coming in his direction.

"Formation! Raise the shields and spears!!" Roose shouted immediately.

Robb advanced along with a dozen knights and another group of infantry he had received from his father.

When they collided with the defense, Robb's horse crushed the first shields, which were barely prepared. The charge came right after, pushing everyone back, giving the knights the advantage to steady themselves, and quickly a fight began: men on horseback against men on the ground, trying to recover, being mostly massacred due to the clear advantage of the cavalry.

The infantry arrived shortly after to assist and quickly began pushing Bolton's men back while they tried to defend themselves.

Robb managed to break through the enemy line and found an opening, closely followed by his men. Roose's formation tried to hold firm, but by that point, the morale of the armies that still resisted was already at its lowest.

Robb broke the defense and advanced directly toward Roose, who immediately raised his sword.

"He is mine! Take care of his guard!" Robb shouted.

There was a boiling hatred inside him because of the betrayal he suffered, and he had not yet fully recovered. He needed to get rid of Bolton. He knew Daemon wanted to make him pay, but Robb also had his own personal vengeance against him and against all those involved in the Red Wedding who were still alive.

When he approached, Roose already had his sword raised. The first impact fully favored Robb. The force of the blow made Roose lose his balance and fall backward, rolling on the ground.

Around them, cavalry and infantry clashed. Robb fought against the Boltons, easily identifiable by their dark leather armor, less flashy than the red of the Lannisters. But that did not matter.

He saw the opportunity, dismounted, and advanced on foot.

Roose got up in a hurry, preparing for another assault, but saw Robb coming toward him.

"You will pay for what you did, you damned oathbreaker!!" Robb shouted, advancing with fury.

Roose defended the blow, the swords crossing with force.

"Look where your ambition has brought you. You are nothing now, Roose," Robb said with contempt, wanting him to feel every word.

"You lost your house. You are the first Bolton to lose the Dreadfort, your precious castle no longer exists. You lost your allies. You will lose your name… and, lastly, you will lose your life. That is what awaits you in the end. Tell me, Roose… was that what you expected?"

Roose heard the words but did not answer. He simply attacked again.

A duel began between the two. Roose tried to find an opening in Robb's defense. He knew Robb was younger and less experienced, and he could defeat him, but he had to escape from there before he was surrounded.

His men could no longer hold the line. The Northerners were massacring them, and it was difficult to maintain any discipline while the screams echoed through the streets.

Robb and Roose continued the battle. Robb realized that Roose was not an easy opponent, but he did not retreat. He only sighed.

"Do you know what I learned from you, Roose Bolton?" he said calmly.

No one around was really paying attention to them at that moment, and Robb continued.

"I learned that you cannot play fair against a player who does not know how to play fair," Robb said.

He took something from his pocket and immediately threw it at Roose, catching him by surprise. A powder struck his eyes, making him lose his sight instantly. It was a powder that Daemon himself had given to Robb, made from alchemical substances he had created using the plants of this world.

Robb had begged for Roose to be left to him when the fight began. Daemon had an interest in dealing with Bolton in a rather perverse way, but since Robb wanted to face him, he eventually yielded. He said that if Robb had difficulty, Roose did not need his honor — that he should save it for someone better. Daemon would not judge him, nor let anyone judge him.

Roose barely had time to react. He screamed as he felt his hand being severed, a brutal pain crossing his body as he lost the ability to hold his sword.

Soon after, he felt the blade pierce his chest.

He could not see anything, only felt his body failing as he died, surrendered there like a slaughtered rat.

"This is how you will die. Daemon said you have a pregnant wife, a Frey. Your lineage will not last long. We will not harm the child, but it will be sent to the Wall. The blood of traitors dies today, here. Farewell, Roose Bolton. And this will not be an easy death — Daemon said this will not be only your end."

With those words, Roose Bolton died.

Meanwhile, Jon stopped in the corridor before the throne room. There was a Kingsguard and several Lannister men positioned to prevent anyone from entering, by order of the king.

They were stunned when they saw the main enemy there, walking inside the Red Keep and appearing before them.

Daemon simply stopped. His eyes turned white for a moment before returning to normal. He opened a faint smile.

"Well... it seems things are going well." He observed through Winter's eyes and also through some birds flying over the skies of King's Landing, before taking his sword and preparing to enter the throne room.
