Chapter 548 - 487: I Am Not Him
Chapter 548 - 487: I Am Not Him
"..."
Sang Luo never expected to walk in on someone in the middle of... that. It was beyond awkward. She stood frozen at the door, not knowing whether to enter or leave.
The commotion inside quickly died down.
A husky voice, still thick with unsated desire, called from within the room.
"Come in."
Sang Luo knew the Rakshasa King was calling for her.
After a moment’s hesitation, she pushed the door open and walked in.
The amorous scent hanging in the air made her uncomfortable. The privacy screen wasn’t unfolded, so Sang Luo kept her head down, not daring to look toward the bed.
But her hearing was sharp. She heard the rustle of fabric. After a few breaths, the man’s low, husky voice came again. "Lift your head."
Sang Luo swallowed and slowly raised her head toward the bed. Gauze curtains partially obscured the view, but it was easy to imagine the intensity of what had just happened. The bedding was in disarray, trailing onto the floor, where layers of clothes lay in a scattered pile.
A Ghost Clan woman with a perfect, curvaceous figure and a bewitchingly beautiful face was nestled in the Rakshasa King’s arms. She wore a translucent, gossamer undergarment, with a man’s thick, dark outer robe draped loosely over her. Passionate red marks covered her exposed shoulders and arms.
The woman was breathing heavily, her face flushed with desire. Her watery eyes gazed at the incomparably handsome man before her as if she wanted to say something but held back.
The Rakshasa King wasn’t in much better shape. His dark gold sleeping robe was wide open, revealing a firm, sexy chest. He pinched the chin of the woman in his arms, then let go and commanded lazily, "You are no longer needed here."
The Ghost Concubine was shocked and unwilling to leave. She had been lonely for tens of thousands of years. Today, she had finally managed to throw a little tantrum and lure the Venerable King into her hall for a taste, but they had been interrupted before she was satisfied.
Filled with grievance, she cooed in a soft, delicate voice, "Your Majesty~"
But the Venerable King, who had always doted on her, had lost interest. "This king does not like to repeat himself."
The Ghost Concubine’s delicate body trembled. She quickly wrapped the robe around herself and tumbled off the bed. Before leaving, she shot Sang Luo a vicious glare, filled with resentment and jealousy.
Sang Luo was baffled but chose to ignore it completely.
The Rakshasa King strolled down the steps. His long black hair cascaded down his back, with a single lock falling over his front. His chest was bare, revealing a powerful, lean, and perfect physique. Below the waist, he wore only under-trousers, but she didn’t dare let her gaze wander any lower.
The Rakshasa King stopped in front of Sang Luo. He was extremely tall, towering over her by nearly two heads. The pressure he exuded was immense!
His lazy, deep voice was tinged with a hint of unfulfilled lust.
"What are you here for?"
"I... I came today to ask the Rakshasa King something."
Sang Luo looked up, meeting his gaze directly.
The man’s eyes were deep and dark, showing no surprise. "This king did not wish to see you, nor do I have any intention of acknowledging you. You should have understood the answer already."
"..."
He turned, walked to a table, and poured himself a goblet of strong liquor, downing it in one go. "If you wish to hear this king admit it personally, I can tell you. I will make things clear with you today."
Sang Luo had her suspicions before she came; she just needed a confirmation from the man himself. But now, she felt an unbidden urge to retreat...
"This king is the Rakshasa King of the Ghost Domain. That Wolf Beast was merely the reincarnation of one of my countless soul fragments. I am not him."
The Rakshasa King walked over and looked at the woman’s pale face, completely unmoved. He said slowly, "This king possesses the memories of all the soul fragments. But to me, those memories are nothing more than fleeting glimpses, devoid of any value or emotion. And you are not the only one with whom ’I’ have had children."
"However, you and those three children are special. Especially you." His long, broad hand forcefully gripped Sang Luo’s chin. His cold, arrogant eyes stared directly into her vulnerability as he calmly enunciated, "This king holds a unique curiosity for you all, which is why I have helped you time and again."
"You and I shared a lifetime of love, but that is all it was."
"This is the answer you wanted. Are you satisfied with this king’s words?"
Sang Luo closed her eyes, then opened them. She slapped his hand away, her expression serene. "I understand."
She added, "I was reckless today and disturbed the Venerable King and his beloved’s intimate moment. I ask that the Rakshasa King not hold it against me. I will not bother you again in the future."
The Rakshasa King watched her, saying nothing.
Sang Luo turned and left.
And he did not follow her.
...
Sang Luo returned to the banquet to find Quan Jin. She had thought she would be heartbroken, at least a little, but her heart felt much calmer than she had imagined.
In the years since Lan Cang left, she had long since moved on from her grief. She was just worried about where his soul had gone and whether he was safe.
Now that she had the answer, she had no more lingering attachments.
The banquet was nearing its end. When Quan Jin saw her return, he shifted to the side to make room. Sang Luo readily sat down beside him, ignoring the strange looks from those around them as she took some dried meat and Spirit Fruits from her storage space and began to chew.
She had been in the Ghost Realm for a whole day and was starving; she hadn’t really eaten anything yet.
’This blasted place really isn’t for me!’
"Sangsang, did you get your answers?" Quan Jin asked.
"I did. It was about what I expected. Lan Cang really was the reincarnation of one of the Rakshasa King’s soul fragments, similar to Yun Hua back then." Sang Luo nodded and sighed. "And don’t even get me started on how awkward it was when I got there. I can’t believe the Rakshasa King left in such a hurry just to get lovey-dovey with his beauty, and I walked right in on them."
The corner of Quan Jin’s mouth twitched. He pictured the scene, and indeed, it was awkward.
He had heard from Fei Yuan about the Divine Venerable’s mortal reincarnation.
He just never imagined Lan Cang was hiding such an identity.
"I really underestimated him back then."
"It’s not just you, I never expected it either! Ah Yuan mentioned it once before. These ancient beings are extremely secretive about such matters. If an enemy were to discover it, it would be like courting their own destruction. Even Yan had to intentionally leak his soul’s aura to bait Dun into making a move."
After she finished, Sang Luo turned to Quan Jin and asked curiously, "Speaking of which, how much do you know about this Rakshasa King?"
Quan Jin shook his head. "These beings are far too ancient. I know about as much as you do. However, as the new Demon Lord, I received an invitation from the Ghost Domain and overheard some rumors."
"Tell me, tell me~" Sang Luo grabbed some melon seeds, her eyes sparkling as she stared at him.
Seeing her like this, Quan Jin felt a sense of relief. He smiled faintly. "The Rakshasa King’s return wasn’t just completely unexpected by the outside world; it sent shockwaves through the Ghost Domain itself. Legend says this Rakshasa King has lived for hundreds of thousands of years, perhaps even longer. He is the supreme existence in the Ghost Domain."
"Tens of thousands of years ago, he fought with Yu, the Heavenly Realm’s number one God of War. The two were evenly matched in a battle to the death, and both ultimately fell in that great war, vanishing without a trace... No one expected the Rakshasa King to be reborn and return tens of thousands of years later, retaking control of the Ghost Domain."
"He was gone from the Ghost Realm for so many years, so new Ghost Kings must have emerged, right? Did no one oppose him?"
Sang Luo thought of that scoundrel, Ye Wushuang.
’Well, compared to that perverted, cunning fellow, I’d rather have the Rakshasa King as the head of the Ghost Kings. At least, judging by Lan Cang’s way of doing things, the Rakshasa King is definitely more righteous than that pervert.’
Quan Jin said meaningfully, "How could there be no opposition? The old king returned to suppress the new ones. No one likes being crushed under someone else’s heel."
"The previous Ghost Kings were all defiant, but what could they do? The Rakshasa King’s power is immeasurable. It’s rumored he long ago broke through the Ghost God Venerate Realm to reach Unparalleled Perfection!"
