Chapter 540 - 479: I’m So Happy to See You Again

Chapter 540 - 479: I’m So Happy to See You Again

...

Qingqiu, Divine Venerable Mansion.

Fei Yuan and Yan were drinking tea and playing chess.

Fei Yuan was somewhat distracted. He held a black game piece in his hand, hesitating to make a move.

"Worried about Luo’er?" Yan had seen through his thoughts.

"It’s been three years since Lan Cang passed away from illness. After Luo’er returned from the funeral that day, she never brought it up again. She seemed no different than before, but I could tell she was sad and depressed for a long time. She still hasn’t completely gotten over it..." Fei Yuan sighed sorrowfully and casually placed his black piece on the board.

Yan looked at the increasingly chaotic board, placed a white piece, and ended the game.

"Your mind is in turmoil, and you’re filled with guilt."

"Luo’er has always been a passionate and devoted person. Lan Cang was the first Male Beast she ever fell in love with. No matter how much time passes, he will always have a place in her heart that no one else can touch... But Luo’er didn’t get to see him one last time. I... I can’t bear to imagine how devastated she must have been."

"This matter also exceeded my expectations. I bear some of the blame as well; I shouldn’t have let you bring Luo’er to the Divine Realm." Yan’s sharp brows knitted slightly, a hint of confusion in his eyes. "Although I foresaw that he would have a short life, he should have passed at the age of six hundred and seventy-two. He hadn’t even reached his six hundredth year when he died. He shouldn’t have gone so suddenly."

"Are you saying there’s more to it than meets the eye?"

"Lan Cang was involved in commerce and politics for many years. He was righteous and compassionate, and he didn’t make any enemies. Even those who disagreed with his political views wouldn’t have resorted to such vicious methods to assassinate him." Yan added, "Or perhaps my divination was wrong. No one can see everyone’s fate clearly."

"I wonder when Luo’er will be able to move on..."

Just as Yan was about to speak, he paused.

"She went after all."

Fei Yuan instantly understood his words. It wasn’t a surprise. He smiled helplessly. "With Luo’er’s personality, if she wants to go, no one can stop her."

A fine sentiment, but she was the one who had the hardest time letting go.

...

Sang Luo had sworn never to travel back in time again, but in the end, she couldn’t resist. She couldn’t swallow the suffocating feeling in her heart!

She had to find out the truth!

After Lan Cang’s passing, the spiritual connection between them was severed. Without the pull of his Soul Mark, she was like a headless fly, searching randomly among the countless fragments in the Space-Time Tunnel until she finally found Lan Cang’s timeline.

Ruins and forest coexisted.

On one side were the collapsed ruins of a city ravaged by war. Just across a valley lay a lush, primeval jungle. It was a starkly divided scene, but a common sight on the borders of the Western Continent.

Many Hunting Teams from various tribes crossed the valley to search for supplies in the war-torn ruins. Sometimes, they would find unexpected prizes—for example, homeless females.

The Beastmen, loaded with spoils, hurried back to their tribes before nightfall.

Meanwhile, Sang Luo opened her eyes. She stared at the forest before her and the stone houses in the distance, feeling a bit dazed for a moment.

The scene was unfamiliar, yet somehow recognizable.

Then she remembered—this was the Kordo Tribe!

At the entrance to the tribe’s village, a black-haired youth sat alone on a large boulder, one long leg bent, patiently sharpening the long knife in his hands.

His features were refined and handsome, his eyes sharp, exuding a soldier-like fortitude. His build was still somewhat lean but by no means thin; the firm, full muscles of his shoulders and back were visible even through his clothes. Unfortunately, a scar on his face marred this overall beauty. He also radiated a cold indifference that kept everyone at a distance, and none of the passing females dared to approach him.

He seemed to enjoy this solitude, rarely keeping company with anyone.

The youth lowered his head, examining the gleaming surface of the blade he had polished.

A slender, graceful figure appeared before him, accompanied by a faint, sweet fragrance.

The youth looked up in confusion, but when he saw the newcomer’s face clearly, the words caught in his throat.

He had never seen such a beautiful female.

"Cangcang." Seeing the youth from her memories, Sang Luo’s eyes grew moist without her realizing it.

The girl’s soft call pulled Lan Cang back to his senses. He was even more stunned. ’How does she know my name?’

She wasn’t a female from the tribe.

He had never seen her before, let alone known her. Yet when he saw her smiling through tear-filled eyes, his heart seemed to clench with a pang of sorrow, and he felt an urge to reach out and wipe the tears from her face.

"You are..."

He put down his long knife, stood up, and leaped off the boulder.

The next second, the girl threw her arms around his waist in a tight embrace. Lan Cang froze completely, unsure of where to put his hands.

Sang Luo heard the frantic, rapid beat of the young man’s heart in his chest and a small smile touched her lips. "Cangcang, it’s so wonderful to see you again in this time..."

"I’m so happy."

She stood on her tiptoes and kissed his cheek.

Then, like a gust of wind, she vanished without a trace.

Lan Cang stood stunned at the village entrance. The space beside him was empty, but a faint warmth still lingered from her embrace.

He touched his cheek. The damp kiss, the soft touch, made his heart tremble.

But suddenly, he couldn’t remember what had just happened.

It was like a fleeting daydream.

"Hey, Lan Cang!"

Someone passing by called out to him.

"Today’s the day the tribe’s females choose their mates. What are you doing just standing around here? It’s so boring."

"I heard the Hunting Team brought back several young new females from outside today. Let’s go check them out."

The young Male Beasts scrambled over each other to get there, afraid someone else would get the first pick!

Lan Cang’s internal injuries hadn’t fully healed, and he usually had no interest in such things. But now, as if guided by some unseen force, he started walking and followed them.

...

When Sang Luo opened her eyes again, she was no longer in the primitive tribal forest but in a city of concrete and steel. She was somewhat familiar with the architectural style; it was a city on the Western Continent.

Before her was a sprawling, abandoned dump, filled with many ragged, disheveled wanderers. They clutched expired nutrient solutions and half-eaten cans of meat they had pulled from trash cans, sizing up this out-of-place intruder with all sorts of looks.

There was fear, and greed... Most of them were filled with ill intent.

This was a scene Sang Luo had never witnessed on the Western Continent.

This was a slum she had never set foot in before.

Sang Luo had heard Lan Cang say long ago that the wealth gap on the Western Continent was enormous. Back when she lived with Caesar and Duotu, she never had the chance to interact with these lower-class Beastmen. So this was the kind of place Lan Cang had grown up in.

No wonder that as a child, unable to find food, he had accidentally ingested a contaminated Energy Baryte.

Sang Luo’s feelings were a complicated mix.

She wanted to try and stop Lan Cang from eating the contaminated Energy Baryte.

The most urgent task was to find the young Lan Cang first.

But in this sea of people, finding a small, unknown Wolf Beast was like searching for a needle in a haystack.

Sang Luo spent a fortnight searching with all her might, but found nothing.

She also had to put effort into dealing with the cunning and treacherous Beastmen of the slums.

Strangely, for the past few days, she had constantly felt a faint, elusive gaze on her. But whenever she tried to investigate with her spiritual power, she found nothing.
