From God of Lies to Lord of All Worlds

Chapter 83: Secrets from the American Civil War

Chapter 83: Secrets from the American Civil War

Austin and Chris ran to the villa area one after another, panting heavily.

Beside them, the agents and police officers were also panting heavily. This was truly the norm for government employees in Ameri; after all, they were just office workers, not top-tier elites, and none of them trained as if their lives depended on it.

With their big-bellied physiques, thrust into a real-life crisis, they naturally ended up in this breathless state.

However, no one said a word. During the recent grand military inspection, there were even soldiers marching out of step, yet everyone pretended not to notice, right?

Everyone understood the state of this decaying empire. Many things were just done 'good enough,' and no one took them too seriously.

The entrance had already been cordoned off. The patrol officers in the area had arrived early and completed a preliminary investigation.

Soon, the police officers who had rushed to the scene first brought them an update. "Detective, everyone here is dead. They died from severe lacerations... Someone brutally tore them apart, just like a lion or tiger shredding its prey. Their bodies look like they were ripped to pieces by immense brute strength!"

"Torn apart?" Hearing this, Austin's heart skipped a beat. He immediately walked inside and witnessed the scene within the villa.

The sight here was truly horrifying and bloody. Over a dozen corpses were scattered across various locations in the villa. The gruesome scene of splattered blood and blooming death was displayed with sickening extravagance.

Austin could easily deduce exactly what had happened here.Initially, the intruder burst through the front door, leaving deep claw marks on the entryway and the butler's corpse right by the entrance.

Then, the maid and the family members in the hall began to scream. But their screams were short-lived, as an overwhelming force ripped their throats out, sending them collapsing to the floor.

The commotion downstairs drew an armed man down from the upper floor, but he was killed on the steps before he could even fire a single shot.

As for the young man who died beneath the stairs, it looked more like he had been snatched up from above and had his throat directly snapped.

The brutal hunter even inspected the house afterward, and only after confirming there were no survivors did it slowly leave.

This brutal frenzy truly culminated in sheer violence. The killer did not act like a human; instead, it behaved exactly like a monster!

This reminded Austin of the monster that had just left—a guy with the head of a wolf. Hiss...

He suddenly realized the connection. The wolf fur, the departing werewolf... Could it be...

Damn it, he had just said it was impossible to encounter the supernatural, and now they had run right into it!

Chris was thinking hard beside him. "It shouldn't be... it makes no sense... Humans couldn't possibly inflict these kinds of tearing wounds. Even world-class strongmen lack this level of arm strength!"

He found that everything he had learned in the academy was utterly useless here. This murder defied all common sense!

"Chris, what if the guy who committed these murders wasn't human, but a Werewolf?" Austin asked.

"A Werewolf? You mean the mythical ones that are afraid of silver, possess boundless strength, and transform on the night of a full moon?" Chris turned his head, processing the thought slowly. "Don't tell me... if it really was that kind of monster, then it actually..."

He abruptly fell silent, remembering the wolf fur from earlier. "My god... bullshit... did we really just stumble into a supernatural event?"

"I'm afraid so!" Austin nodded, feeling a strange sense of relief. His boss truly was a jinx; whatever he said came to pass.

They had only been on the job for a few days, and they were already encountering something like this?

"Lock down the area and report to your superior!" The two men nodded in agreement and each pulled out their cell phone.

An incident that was so obviously a supernatural crisis didn't require them to overexert themselves. Next up, it was time for the real response teams from both sides to take the stage.

At the very least, Chris definitely had to withdraw. As a member of the local police, he lacked the clearance for further involvement. However, before leaving, he still offered Austin a hint. "If that Werewolf deliberately targeted this place, was he really just here to kill?"

Hearing this, Austin immediately frowned. If this wasn't a simple vendetta, then what was the underlying reason?

For such a straightforward question, he could guess the answer without a second thought. There was something hidden inside this villa!

He immediately requested a search warrant from his direct superior, Gao, and then tirelessly conducted a thorough sweep of the entire villa.

In a hidden corner he knew nothing about, Bai Yang personally set down a document. The moment his fingers brushed against the paper, the otherwise brand-new document suddenly became aged and worn, steeped in the heavy traces of time. The unmistakable scent of history bloomed from the pages, rapidly weaving a logically self-consistent aura around itself.

The document was placed in the villa's basement, right next to a safe that had been ripped open by sharp claws—a spot that no one would initially detect.

The Werewolf, Tyne, had indeed come for revenge. His motive for massacring this family was simply because they had stolen his opportunity to attend school!

Because of this, Tyne hunted down the executor of that old grievance, used his brutal strength to extract the final piece of information, and tracked his targets all the way here.

But Tyne could never have known that the family he completely wiped out was actually surnamed McDowell!

"This is perfect. The chaotic history of the American Civil War has long been dissected thoroughly by historians, but this provides the exact entry point we need!" Bai Yang murmured. "This is the first point. There will be a second, and a third. We can even find corresponding points for the demon!"

"It doesn't need to be flawless, just logically self-consistent. Someone else will gladly help me fill in the gaps of cause and effect!"

After saying this, Bai Yang casually raised his hand. Austin, who had just descended the stairs, immediately spotted the torn safe and couldn't help but click his tongue. "Only a Transcendent Being could do something like this. How could an ordinary person tear open a safe door with their bare hands?"

However, the opened safe further confirmed their suspicions: this monster had indeed come looking for something, rather than specifically to commit murder.

He was about to leave the area, but when his eyes swept over the position of the safe door, Austin suddenly frowned.

His keen alertness as an FBI agent allowed him to notice a section of the wall that looked starkly different from the rest. The dark reflection there wasn't flat; instead, it had slight bulges.

This indicated that the wall hadn't been built all at once, but had undergone secondary construction.

Austin immediately squatted down, ran his hand over the area, and casually knocked on it. "Rap, rap, thud!"

The hollow echo was obvious, meaning there was definitely something hidden behind it!

A look of ecstasy washed over his face. He instantly called his subordinates over, grabbed a hammer, and carefully struck the surface. Eventually, they smashed an arm-sized hole into the basement wall.

Nestled at the back of the cavity rested a mahogany box that looked incredibly ancient.

Austin understood perfectly. This had to be the secret hidden within the house. The monster hadn't found it, but they did!

...

Five hours later, at the Federal Special Affairs Bureau's New York headquarters, Austin accompanied Gao as they awaited the arrival of Vice President Qian Si and the young Deputy Director Baron.

Beside them stood several renowned theology and history professors, peering through magnifying glasses as they meticulously studied the yellowed historical materials in their hands.

Qian Si nodded at the two men, then turned and asked, "Professor Carlos, what exactly is written on this document?"

Leading the academics was Margaret Carlos, a history professor from Princeton and an expert scholar in American history.

Hearing the question, Margaret looked up. "Mr. Vice President, Mr. Baron, this is an incredibly absurd piece of unofficial history. It records historical events beginning in 1861!"

"1861?" Qian Si was taken aback. "The American Civil War?"

"Yes, the American Civil War. According to the text, the owner of this material was Major General Owen McDowell, the former commander of the Army of Northeastern Virginia!" Margaret stated. "But the records within are simply far too ridiculous and outrageous. I have no idea where you found this material or why you felt the need to call us all in to study it together."

She was clearly displeased. To be summoned over such an absurd piece of unofficial history?

The only reason she hadn't turned on her heel and walked out was because Qian Si was one of the nation's top leaders. Just what was all this nonsense?

Could the recent nationwide rumors about descending angels and manifesting demons actually be true? If so, what did that make realists like them?

Beside Professor Margaret, theologian Professor Thomas Franklin clearly held a different opinion. "However, the Christian symbols on this material are accurate. Furthermore, I've spotted a few names that are quite familiar within the history of the American Catholic Church..."

Baron, being young and impatient, couldn't help but interject. "Professor, what exactly is recorded in there?"

Margaret let out a heavy sigh. "It claims that the defeat at the First Battle of Bull Run occurred because Virginia plantation owner William Blackwood transformed into a Werewolf..."

"It's utter nonsense! If a plantation owner can become a Werewolf, are we going to announce next that the Union army actually had the backing of the Church?"

"Would that mean our weapons of war shifted from firearms to holy water and silver? It's completely absurd!"
