Chapter 5: The Dream That Detonated
Chapter 5: The Dream That Detonated
After asking around, Father Angus was shocked to discover that everyone except him had experienced nightmares last night.
They all uniformly hadn't slept well, uniformly appeared exhausted and disoriented.
After realizing this, he exchanged a glance with Sheriff Franz, a flicker of concern passing through their eyes.
"What kind of dreams did you have?" Angus asked.
He was now the only person in the entire town who possessed "mysterious" power, so he had to take charge.
Though Angus himself didn't even know how to use such power.
He could only rely on the faith in his heart to maintain this mystery.
"A very strange dream, I dreamed someone was riding a tall horse, chasing me!" Franz said.
Hearing the sheriff's words, the remaining people all began speaking up, "Yes, I was being chased too, but what chased me was a car!"
"What chased me was a cow!""What chased me was a tank!"
"I... what chased me was a very large paramecium!"
Everyone spoke up, describing their nightmares.
It was easy to hear that although the pursuers were completely unrelated, all the dreams shared one common theme - being chased!
Even a fool could recognize the connection. If this had happened before today, they would likely have dismissed it as just another rural legend.
But today, both Angus and Franz recalled the words spoken by the devil that had just dissipated.
It said it would appear in dreams, making everyone's life worse than death...
Didn't that mean that from now on, that devil would appear in every one of their dreams?
Thinking of this, they immediately felt a chill run down their spines.
"Father Angus, you're the only one who didn't have nightmares, what should we do?" Franz asked.
He was already feeling somewhat drowsy, the exhaustion from a night of poor sleep leaving him somewhat weak.
He didn't dare imagine what kind of torture it would be to wake up from nightmares every single time?
"I didn't have nightmares..." Angus pondered for a moment upon hearing this.
Franz thought he had some special power that prevented him from dreaming.
But Angus knew this had nothing to do with his own power. Just one day ago, he had been just an ordinary priest.
He didn't possess any special power either.
The only difference was that glowing cross he had obtained before the Jesus statue.
Then, he had slept before the Jesus statue, slept very peacefully, without any nightmares at all!
Thinking of this, Angus suddenly understood. He faced the crowd and softly said, "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit!"
"By the authority granted in the Gospel of Luke, we trample upon serpents and darkness."
"The Archangel Saint Michael stands with sword drawn, the Holy Mother of Light tears the veil of dark night."
"This shall be the promised land granted by the Lord, you may rest here."
As he spoke these words, a faint white light shimmered from his chest, astonishing everyone in the church!
When they had heard Hank and his wife's account earlier, they thought it might be some new evangelism method of the church, but now, they were witnessing a genuine mysterious miracle!
This Father Angus whom everyone knew well was emitting a true mysterious light.
Even under the sun's illumination, this white light remained strikingly conspicuous.
Under normal circumstances, many would have gasped in amazement.
But now, they were all too exhausted, so they chose to believe.
Fatigue had robbed many of even the ability to think, leaving them to simply follow Angus's instructions.
Soon, most of the town's residents came to the church, sitting in the church pews, sinking into deep sleep...
Including Sheriff Franz, whose physical and mental exhaustion left him extremely weak, making Father Angus even more concerned.
He looked at everyone, slowly praying: "Lord! You are one, and you are all! May the glorious Holy Spirit of the Lord be with you..."
After finishing this prayer, Angus also felt somewhat tired, so he slightly closed his eyes.
He needed to rest a little while, because he had to watch over these residents all day.
The day passed quickly, with Sheriff Franz being the first to wake up!
"Mmm... it's been so long since I've had such a comfortable sleep!" he said.
Hearing his words, Father Angus smiled and handed him a cup of water and a piece of bread, "Come, have some food first, then we'll discuss what to do next."
Franz smiled and nodded, casually saying, "You were absolutely right, here with you, we didn't have nightmares anymore!"
"All of this is the Lord's protection!" Angus said, continuing forward to distribute food and water to the waking townspeople.
Each person felt refreshed, vigorous, and full of energy, all marveling at the church's protective power.
It truly seemed as Angus had said - under the church's protection, they had recovered some of their spirit.
"But Father, we can't come to the church to sleep every day, can we?" asked Fuli, Hank's young daughter.
She had learned her story from her parents and felt her body's recovery, so she asked curiously.
Hearing this, Angus was taken aback.
Yes, he could only give these people temporary rest - he couldn't possibly make the church everyone's sleeping place!
Thinking of this, he hurried back into the church, knelt before the Jesus statue, and began praying: "Almighty Lord, what should I do?"
Seeing Angus go inside, Franz and the others followed him into the church.
They were naturally curious about this priest's actions - this kind of "mysterious" power was something everyone wanted to experience.
The white light emanating from Angus was undoubtedly the most tempting drug, attracting their attention.
And as the priest prayed, this white light became even more dazzling and intense, even penetrating through the church walls, spreading outward.
This radiance captured everyone's attention, transforming the confusion in their eyes gradually into awe!
The light continued to spread, even dispersing toward the sky, making the originally calm sky suddenly turn gloomy!
Father Angus was astonished to discover that the cross on his chest slowly floated up, pulling him step by step out of the church!
It made him stand at the church entrance, gazing at the suddenly darkened sky, stopping in his tracks.
But the cross on his chest suddenly expanded into a massive sky-cross at this moment, carving a long trail through the dark clouds!
This trail seemed to penetrate something, and a faint black shadow was actually shattered just like that!
Angus and Franz keenly sensed that this thing was probably that evil spirit!
"Lord!" Angus was the first to kneel, followed by Sheriff Franz, then all the townspeople in the church!
If this couldn't be called a miracle, then what could possibly be called a miracle?
Everyone began praying toward the white cross in the sky - the residents of this town were witnessing the "divine" descent for the first time!
...
"Your Grace, guiding such scenes in dreams indeed conserves Wish Force, but once they wake up, all of this remains illusory!" Alvin couldn't help but remind.
"Illusory outcomes lead to Wish Force backlash - you wouldn't want to see such results!"
Bai Yang lazily stretched under the sunlight, saying with a smile, "But the effect of this performance is truly excellent, isn't it?"
"Yes, Your Grace, we've now collected over four digits of Wish Force. Based on Vespuchi Town's current population, these 400-plus people should be able to provide at most over fifteen thousand points of Wish Force!" Alvin faithfully replied.
"Then wouldn't we have one drop of Divine Power?" Bai Yang smiled as he looked at the crow by the church entrance. "With Divine Power, we'll have the true power to transform illusion into reality, then I can continue weaving this lie!"
He still stood atop the church tower, while beneath his feet were the more than four hundred townspeople who had fallen into slumber!
