Chapter 40: Divine Might Like a Prison
Chapter 40: Divine Might Like a Prison
"It really is just one person!" All the military police discovered upon arriving at the scene that the orders they received were indeed correct.
In the orders, they learned they were to confront a super criminal who used "wind" to protect their city.
Seeing their arrival, the man who had been within the wind slowly drifted out and came before them.
In just an instant, countless snipers, tank barrels, and artillery aiming devices were all pointed at him.
After all, this was their first time confronting the supernatural, and no amount of caution was excessive.
However, they also saw the tornado that was no longer advancing, so Joris raised his hand, signaling everyone to hold their fire for now.
Then, facing this special "person," he loudly declared: "What do you want? Invader? You are invading our nation!"
"Invader? Hahahahahahahaha!" The man seemed to have heard something incredibly amusing, laughing uproariously with deafening laughter that even made some physically weak people instinctively cover their ears.
But even so, they could still hear the voice with perfect clarity!
It was as if the sound wasn't coming from outside, but rather emerging from within their own minds."Your nation? Who permitted this? Xipe Totec? Tezcatlipoca? Or Huitzilopochtli?" he boomed. "Daring to claim your own country on the land we shaped?"
"It doesn't matter anymore. Since the Fifth Sun has fallen to such depths, let's just destroy the world once more and restart creation again!"
The man waved his hand, and the hurricane behind him, as if possessing intelligence, took another massive step forward, carrying nearly cutting wind pressure as it surged toward the crowd!
The surrounding wooden houses were torn apart in that moment, all the wooden boards spinning upward into the sky, becoming the first offerings in this battle.
With the other party's wave, both Gao and Joris knew there was no possibility of negotiation, and they both issued the command to fight!
"Open fire! Blast him down from the sky!"
"Boom!" The roar of M1A2 main battle tanks sounded in succession, armor-piercing rounds flying toward this human-shaped target as if they were free.
Additionally, various anti-materiel sniper rifles also opened fire, all aiming at the man's head in a coordinated volley!
If this were truly a human, under such an attack, leaving behind any fragment larger than 20 centimeters would be considered a blessing from God!
But unfortunately, this was not a human, but rather an existence that could be called a "god" in every sense of the word.
Therefore, under the illumination of several massive searchlights, everyone could clearly see that this man merely waved his hand, causing all the attacks before him to stop right in front of him.
These bullets and shells hung suspended around him, illuminated by the lights, these objects seemingly becoming his backdrop, even causing many soldiers to freeze in stunned silence.
They began to wonder, was this really some "superpowered criminal" rather than an actual "god"?
It was only because of the distance that they couldn't see his specific features clearly, otherwise there would probably have been even more speculation.
However, this suspension was ultimately brief, and it would eventually end.
The hurricane howled, the terrifying storm swirling around them, making it difficult for everyone to even keep their eyes open.
The man waved his hand again, and these bullets and shells flew back, returning to the crowd!
"Boom!"
"Kaboom!"
"Rat-a-tat-tat..."
A series of horrifying sounds erupted, immediately making the military police below too busy dealing with their own survival.
These shells and bullets weren't specifically aimed but simply flew about randomly, blowing up several armored vehicles, leaving many people lying on the ground moaning in pain, and forcing Joris and Gao to take shelter inside a nearby tank.
Destruction had arrived faster and more terrifyingly than they had imagined.
Their full-force attack hadn't even caused the slightest change in the other party's expression!
Now, they were beginning to believe that the man before them was truly a deity.
Because from beginning to end, the other party hadn't even shown anger, merely treating them like ants, without even a hint of rage.
Just indifference.
Because of indifference, he didn't specifically target them; because of indifference, he felt nothing toward their attacks; and because of indifference, they felt a profound despair originating from the depths of their souls!
If the other party were angry or anxious, they had contingency plans, which would mean he could actually be affected by such attacks.
But this indifferent gaze, calm movements, and actions without the slightest hesitation were the true killing blow!
That despair of being powerless to resist was more devastating to human spirit than the current crisis.
The deity resided high in the sky, while below were the wailing, fearful military police, along with Gao and Joris who had just received a phone call.
"The San Diego naval base has been notified. Two missile patrol ships are heading toward Los Angeles. If we want, they can launch missiles at this location in the next second!" Gao said to Joris.
"Are you crazy? Launching missiles at a city? We'll end up in military court!" Joris was shocked, looking at this rather unremarkable-looking man. Were all FBI agents this ruthless?
Gao didn't see it that way. "If the missiles succeed, we can save the city. If the missiles don't succeed, the city's destruction won't have much to do with the missiles! At that point, would we even have the chance to face a military court?"
Hearing these words, although Joris was unwilling to admit it, it seemed this was indeed the logic.
Given the abilities the other party had displayed, this indifferent and dismissive expression, this disregard for everything, this city was probably truly doomed!
"Retreat first! Our weapons are ineffective against him. Wait for new weapons to arrive before we try again!"
The two made the decision and, looking at the tornado so close at hand, commanded their forces to retreat.
The man in the sky naturally saw their actions, but just as they had sensed, the man didn't care about their movements at all, retreating back into the wind and continuing to strengthen this sky-reaching tornado!
Their report and intentions soon reached Newland's desk.
Looking at this report and the footage just transmitted by embedded journalists at the front, Newland addressed the numerous officials around him: "They're requesting authorization to launch missiles..."
The many officials were silently stunned. "Divine power is like a prison!" someone exclaimed with feeling.
This "god's" performance indeed matched their understanding of a "true god" - truly invincible, truly unsolvable, truly unmatched!
No earth-shattering rage, no terrifying punishment, just a simple wave of the hand, and the pressure created was enough to make everyone gasp in awe and fear.
"Can missiles really defeat him?" the state government's Chief of Staff asked this question but received no answers. They didn't know either.
Newland instead thought of another point. "Those names he just mentioned - Xipe Totec, Tezcatlipoca, and Huitzilopochtli - who are they?"
"Governor, I know this!" Hearing this question, the Lieutenant Governor quickly responded. "I looked up some information. In Aztec mythology, these three, along with the Feathered Serpent God Quetzalcoatl, were the four children of the primordial god Ometeotl, and are the four creator gods in Aztec mythology!"
"So what he means is that aside from the four creator gods, no one can stop him?" Newland understood, gripping the documents in his hand tightly. "Where are Father Angus and the others?"
"They've left San Diego and will reach Los Angeles in one hour!" the Secretary of State said.
"Then tell Gao and Joris to hold on for another hour for me! No matter what methods they use! Approve their application!" Newland gritted his teeth. Since things had reached this point, surrendering wouldn't bring victory anyway, so they might as well see this through to the end!
"Governor!"
"Please reconsider! Those are missiles..."
Everyone grew somewhat anxious. This would set a precedent for firing on their own territory!
Newland waved his hand. "If you have a solution, speak up. If you don't, then proceed according to their plan! We're facing a deity, not some random troublemakers!"
Everyone fell silent, and the order was naturally carried out.
Five minutes later, a Tomahawk cruise missile launched from a missile patrol ship offshore, targeting Los Angeles!
With a thunderous roar, the whole world was shocked!
