Chapter 377: The Destruction of the Second Fleet
Chapter 377: The Destruction of the Second Fleet
"Is this... the power of the sea?" Austin reached out his hand in pleasant surprise, guiding the ocean before him to part and close at his will.
He was likely one of the earliest people in the world to come into contact with the Supernatural. Back in Vespucci Town, he had already crossed paths with Angus and Martin.
Unfortunately, while some of his juniors had already become Transcendent Beings, he was still being guarded against like a thief, denied even the slightest opportunity to access classified materials regarding Supernatural Power.
But now, everything was different!
Austin clenched the power within his grasp, staring at the crystal skull before him as an undeniable wave of desire flashed through his eyes!
This was the legacy belonging to his people, and it had finally fallen into his hands. He, too, possessed a boundless, Transcendent future now.
Just as Austin was pondering his future, even fantasizing about truly being able to stand as an equal against America and returning home in glory, an incoming video call jolted him awake.
"Austin, bring the crystal skull to Texas immediately! You've been lingering in the Caribbean Sea for over twelve hours! What exactly are you doing?"
Gao's stern voice made Austin instinctively want to lower his head and comply, but the surging power within his body rendered him entirely unable to speak words of submission.
He was no longer that backgroundless agent who could only survive by relying on his boss. Now, he possessed immense power of his own!"Boss, I deeply appreciate how you've taken care of me all these years, but this time... I don't think I'll be coming back."
"Not coming back?" Gao was stunned. "What kind of nonsense are you spouting? What do you mean you aren't coming back? Did something happen to you?"
The veteran agent immediately sensed something was wrong and hastily added, "If it's truly a Supernatural Crisis, I can request the Transcendent Beings over here to rescue you. Don't give up on yourself!"
He still cared deeply for his subordinate. As the only subordinate who had followed him all the way from the bottom to the peak of his career, he absolutely did not want anything bad to happen to Austin!
"It's nothing like that, Boss!" Austin shook his head and said, "I just want you to tell Mr. Commander-in-Chief that his plans are going to fail. Because those who truly obtain Supernatural Power cannot be controlled by the might of America!"
Hearing those words, Gao instantly understood. "You acquired Supernatural Power? Isn't that even better? By following the Latest Supernatural Edict, you can attain the exact same status as the Catholic Church!"
"You possess Transcendence; everything else can be negotiated over time. You can have whatever you want! This is a direct order from the Great Leader!"
Austin shook his head. "You could say those things to other Transcendent Beings and they might believe it, but saying it to me... Boss, I am no Rookie Agent!"
Austin knew that, given his identity, if he truly obtained this power, he had to leave America immediately. Otherwise, a laboratory dissecting table or a dark prison cell would be his only destiny.
There was certainly precedent for this in America. Did people really think the tragic fates of superhumans depicted in movies were purely fictional?
In reality, those things genuinely happened. Whether within the FBI or the CIA, there were documented cases of such atrocities. He certainly wouldn't make a careless mistake!
"Trust America's credibility? Stop joking, Boss. Golden Hair's credit score couldn't even unlock a shared bicycle next door. Why on earth should I believe him?"
Hearing that response, Gao finally gave up on his persuasion. "Then, can you at least tell me where you intend to take the crystal skull?"
"The Windless Graveyard, sir! The Caribbean Sea is our inland sea. The waters hold our secrets, and I will go there to seek out the legacy left behind by our ancestors..."
"Let's meet at the Windless Graveyard, Boss!"
As Austin spoke, he placed his cell phone on the boat and slowly walked toward the ocean.
Through the phone's camera, he could be seen walking incredibly steadily across the surface of the sea, holding that bizarre crystal skull in his hand. He turned his head with a faint smile, and then his figure was completely swallowed by a massive wave.
Gao's face turned completely bitter. "That's just wonderful. At least you still remember your old superior... Sigh!"
He felt his entire life had plunged into darkness. How could a person's luck be this terrible?
Over half a year ago, he had immediately run into several Transcendent beings right out the gate, nearly getting annihilated in the crossfire of Supernatural Combat. Now, after finally securing a position in the rear where he no longer had to risk his life on the front lines, his most trusted subordinate unexpectedly gained Supernatural Power and defected.
What kind of plot twist was this? Was he going to be arrested and branded as an accomplice to a traitor?
However, Gao remained deeply puzzled. Watching Austin's ability to manipulate seawater with just a flip of his hand, he couldn't help but feel intense curiosity. "Can a single Supernatural gift truly grant such overwhelming power? He's practically stronger than most of the Transcendent Beings currently known to the public..."
He acutely sensed that something was amiss, but he couldn't quite put his finger on what exactly was wrong. That is, until a frantic message arrived from the Second Fleet:
"Emergency! We have encountered a terrifying sea monster! Requesting immediate backup! Requesting backup!" "A sea monster?" Gao hastily connected to the Second Fleet's video feed, viewing the footage transmitted by the F-22 Fighter Jets soaring through the sky.
Then, he witnessed a colossal octopus wrapping its massive tentacles around two destroyers. Slowly and methodically, it was advancing toward the remaining destroyers, Supply Ships, and cruisers.
A massive barrage of attacks launched from the surrounding vessels. Even the carrier-based aircraft from the Aircraft Carrier had fully scrambled, unleashing a frenzy of relentless bombardment upon the enormous monster.
Unfortunately, these strikes had very little effect. The giant octopus's skin wasn't even pierced; the explosions merely left a few scorched black marks on its flesh.
Meanwhile, under the crushing grip of those tentacles, the two destroyers were mercilessly dragged down into the depths of the ocean!
"Oh no, its target is the Aircraft Carrier!" The pilot's near-panicked voice crackled through the comms. Gao then watched as the giant octopus, which had previously sunk to the ocean floor, breached the surface once again, heading straight for the distant Nimitz-class Aircraft Carrier!
Right at that moment, Golden Hair and his entourage stormed into the War Room. "What in the world is happening?"
Gao pointed at the screens in front of them. "A massive sea monster ambushed our fleet, and now it's attacking the Aircraft Carrier."
Hearing this, Golden Hair was completely dumbfounded. "The Aircraft Carrier?"
He stared at the unfolding disaster, feeling a sharp pang of distress in his chest. "Order Houston to deploy forces immediately! What are they doing? If our Aircraft Carrier sinks, it'll be an absolute catastrophe!"
Golden Hair was a merchant at heart, always calculating the economic cost. The only reason he dared to fly in the face of public opinion to peddle goods in these waters was to alleviate America's economic and financial crises, wasn't it?
But look at the situation now. They had barely earned a few billion, and now they were about to lose an Aircraft Carrier worth tens of billions?
How could the math possibly make sense?
Then, a message arrived from Houston. "Great Leader, it's not that we don't want to deploy forces, but rather..."
Another video feed popped up on the screen. A youthful and unfamiliar face appeared before them. It was a face none of them recognized, but the Compass he held in his hand made everyone in the room snap to attention.
It was a very bizarre Compass, as a large white bone was tied precisely where the needle should have been.
"A Holy Relic... has been found again?" Someone muttered this sentence, immediately reminding Gao of the skull Austin was holding. Both of them had obtained Supernatural Power simply by acquiring a Holy Relic. Could it be...
"Hello, I am... Nick, a Dominican!" The teenage boy, whose features bore a mix of Indigenous and European Ancestry, spoke softly. "You don't know me, I know that, and I don't know you either... but that doesn't matter!"
"What matters is that eleven years ago, when your fleet passed through our waters, they capsized the boat my parents were on. They drowned in the sea..."
"And I was only seven years old that year!"
"To survive, I fled from the Dominican Republic to Haiti." As he said this, he took a deep breath, causing many people in the room to tense up in focus.
What kind of country was Haiti? A moral abyss, a purgatory on earth with a famine rate exceeding fifty percent. Heaven only knows what a seven-year-old boy had to endure to survive in Haiti until now!
And now, he had acquired absolute power, and he initiated his revenge the very first moment he could!
Golden Hair instantly blurted out, "Wait! We can negotiate this! We can find the exact people who capsized your parents' boat. The fleet has already been disbanded and reformed once since then. The people on those ships right now aren't your enemies!"
However, unfortunately for them, the boy named Nick had no intention of negotiating. He stared dead into the camera. Behind him stood the Port of Houston and its stationed military personnel.
"Everyone in the Second Fleet must die! The port shall be buried in the sea, and the ships shall be completely destroyed!" His expression was eerie in its calmness. There wasn't even much visible agitation in his words, but his face itself painted the clearest picture of his suffering.
Because etched across his face were countless scars. Some were undeniably the jagged marks of human teeth, permanently branded onto his skin, silently telling everyone exactly how much immense suffering a seven-year-old child had to endure to survive in the hell on earth that was Haiti.
"I didn't come here to bargain. This is a notification!" The boy cut off the communication, though it was highly likely he had simply smashed whatever device he was using.
Meanwhile, on the other video feed, that gargantuan Aircraft Carrier was aggressively bubbling as it sank deeper into the violent waters.
The entire Second Fleet was annihilated just like that.
