From God of Lies to Lord of All Worlds

Chapter 281: Recreation of the Heian Period

Chapter 281: Recreation of the Heian Period

Japan, Kyoto.

In this country, there were two cities that were absolutely unavoidable topics of conversation: Tokyo and Kyoto.

One was the current capital, and the other was the former capital. Both were highly renowned cities.

Kyoto was a thousand-year-old ancient city, a millennium capital, and the spiritual hometown of modern Japanese people. The ancient architecture present here also served as the primary manifestation of the nation's cultural totems!

Among them, the most famous manifestations were the Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples.

But today, an uninvited guest walked into this city.

"Crown, this country doesn't seem to have changed..." Alvin looked around curiously, but he did not see any particularly distinctive figures. It was as if nothing had happened at all.

Bai Yang shook his head. "Don't rush. Let the bullets fly for a while. First, we need to complete the prerequisites for Shinto!"

In Bai Yang's mind, Southeast Asian countries and Japan—or, in other words, all the countries within the entire East Asian cultural sphere—were actually a major challenge for mythological reconstruction.

Over thousands of years of history, they had learned a crucially important piece of knowledge from their suzerain state: the recording of history. They would record various events that occurred throughout history through documents and texts, which later became historical materials.

Of course, this was beneficial for historical research, but it was a different story for Bai Yang's creation of myths. The wealth of exhaustive records always made him feel restricted and tied down whenever he tried to create certain things.

This was different from those Western cultures. In the entirety of Europe, only the Church maintained the habit of recording history, and much of it consisted of the spontaneous records kept by priests and bishops. Without a cohesive system, there was plenty of room to maneuver.

Bai Yang had utilized precisely this room to maneuver to alter the mythological perception of many people, injecting the Church's supernatural history into the original history.

This was incredibly difficult to achieve in this country. Those voluminous records were one of Bai Yang's greatest enemies in creating a supernatural history!

Fortunately, he possessed more than one way to shape myths and history. Gazing at the city before him, Bai Yang smiled faintly, raised his hand, and cast a special stream of Wish Force into the city.

"Over one thousand two hundred years ago, this city was called Heian-kyo! And this era was known as—the Heian Period!"

Bai Yang spoke softly, "But the Heian Period was not peaceful at all... After all, in this era, the most famous figures were the Onmyoji, the Buddhist followers, and the myriad deities and spirits!"

An inexplicable look of amusement gradually appeared on his face, stirring up some additional thoughts in his mind. "Let's set a tone for this city, so that those beings with supernatural needs will slowly converge here!"

Alvin listened with some confusion. "But Crown, are we going to shape the existence of these ghosts and spirits just to harvest Wish Force? Isn't that a bit redundant?"

"No, no, no. We are saviors. Under the influence of the Wish Force sealing the nation, and in the beliefs of many people, these ghosts and spirits already exist!" Bai Yang said with a smile, though his expression grew increasingly calm. "Tell me, if worshiping deities and spirits could allow them to achieve the transcendent, what do you think they would do?"

"They would probably try it?" Alvin said uncertainly. "But there shouldn't be too many, right? Even if they became Transcendent Beings by worshiping deities and spirits, they would certainly be demonic villains..."

Bai Yang smiled and shook his head. "No, I believe that in this country filled with despair, there won't be a shortage of such supernatural occurrences!"

In the nation of Japan, a country steeped in the cultures of Bushido and self-destruction, death was something many people yearned for. The moment a similar supernatural opportunity appeared, they would absolutely seize it at any cost!

And this was exactly why Bai Yang chose it as his testing ground.

A soul slowly materialized in his hand. It was none other than the shattered soul of Fang Ergu. Right now, it was serene and peaceful, devoid of any brutal aura belonging to an evil god. It appeared calm, but in reality, it was simply out of options.

This soul had undergone two special baptisms. Not to mention the consciousness on its surface, even its innermost true spirit had been completely washed away, transforming it into a purely rigid and lifeless spiritual essence.

But precisely because of this, Bai Yang chose him to be the main guide for this grand play.

Under Bai Yang's guidance, this soul gradually transformed into a bewildered old man. Looking incredibly exhausted, he walked along the streets of Kyoto and quickly vanished into the crowd. Meanwhile, Bai Yang turned his ear, listening and smiling. "Alvin, did you hear that?"

"Hear what?" Alvin paused. "What did you hear?"

"I heard... the cries of ordinary people. I heard the wails of the innocent. I heard the anger of this era!" Bai Yang declared. "Isn't this exactly the same as the Heian Period?"

The Heian Period was not peaceful in the slightest. In fact, one could say it was the most agonizing period for the lower classes in Japanese history.

Frequent wars, power struggles, the incompetence of high-level officials, and the constant occurrence of natural disasters all led to infinite pain and despair. That was why countless legends of deities and spirits emerged, and why a special kind of national civil servant like the Onmyoji existed.

And the pain in modern Japan was no less severe. In fact, due to deteriorating international relations, their internal pressure had become even more ridiculously heavy!

Bai Yang evaluated it as a brand-new Heian Period!

A faint, almost ethereal soul appeared in Bai Yang's hand. It was an old man, one practically consumed by venomous resentment and furious hatred.

"Take him, for example. He is currently transforming into a vengeful spirit, or even a resentful ghost!"

Alvin looked at the old man and asked curiously, "Crown, why would an old man of his age harbor such exaggerated resentment?"

The Wish Force clinging to this old man was almost condensing into physical form. It was an emotion brimming with anger, indignation, hatred, and venomous resentment, leaving Alvin completely astonished.

"If you had seen what he went through, you would be filled with venomous resentment too!" Bai Yang said, projecting the old man's life story.

His name was Hirai Koji. Born in the terrifying Showa era, from the moment he came into the world, he could only watch as his mother and older sisters went to the military bases of America to earn money just to barely sustain their family's livelihood.

Later, he grew up, became a high-level official in a company, and started earning his own money. During Japan's golden age, he bought his own house, had a wife and children, and finally seemed to have his life on the right track.

However, a terrifying economic depression destroyed everything his family had built. Hirai Koji was forced to move out of the city and rent a house far away, barely managing to survive.

But the bleak economy meant his son couldn't find a decent job either and was still working odd jobs. This forced the seventy-five-year-old man to go out and drive a truck to maintain the family's livelihood.

Then, due to a road collapse, he fell into a sinkhole. Just as he was struggling to climb out, the rescue team arrived. The sinkhole caved in further, and he died amidst endless sewage and despair!

"Sigh!" Even Alvin could only let out a heavy breath after hearing this story.

What could he say? This old man had practically done everything he possibly could!

He worked hard, his child was filial, and his family was harmonious. By all logic, he should have been one of the happiest people in the world.

Yet, he lived in destitution, struggling and running about just to survive, only to die an innocent death because government officials were just being figureheads...

All these preconditions combined to turn him into the most venomously resentful ghost!

Now Alvin understood the meaning behind Bai Yang's words. He remarked in surprise, "Looking at it this way, the people of this country really do possess the prerequisites for this kind of thing!"

"Exactly. With such an oppressive atmosphere, so many people dying for various reasons, and so many bizarre cults and cultists, it would be weird if nothing happened!"

Bai Yang nodded. He could feel that after releasing his control over the Wish Force, the soul in his hand was absorbing the surrounding Wish Force at an incredibly exaggerated speed to manifest its own form.

"Resentment taking shape, debts finding their rightful debtors—this is the birth of a vengeful spirit!" Bai Yang said softly. "Let them wreak havoc for a while. We will go look for descendants of Onmyoji or legendary Shinto figures!"

After all, having only deities, spirits, and demons wasn't enough to start a fight. There also needed to be Shinto and Onmyoji. Only by making them fight each other could he drag out the old geezers of the Buddhist sect!

Whether it was the confrontation between deities, spirits, and Onmyoji, or the emergence of Buddhism and Mahayana Buddhism's clean up of the local Buddhist factions, it would all be quite a spectacle to watch, wouldn't it?
