Chapter 207: Shield Shattered, Angels Descend!
Chapter 207: Shield Shattered, Angels Descend!
Hearing those words, the vampires of the Tzimisce Clan laughed even louder, their voices ringing with unbridled arrogance.
Ever since they awakened, their rampant pillaging across this nation had taught them a simple truth: the modern Church was pitifully weak.
After all, vampires had been active in Milan for nearly a week, yet they had not seen a single Exorcist squad or Knightly Order from the Church. Only one pathetic holy knight had shown up on Sicily Island.
Even if that knight managed to kill one of their official members, what did it matter? This country was overflowing with blood. Reviving a fallen member would take hardly any time at all.
If this were the Middle Ages, the moment they showed even the slightest sign of emerging, the Inquisition would have torn the city apart, scouring away every trace of darkness with holy water!
But now, with the enemy right at their doorstep, all a Cardinal could offer were empty threats. It was utterly laughable.
The Sabbat was considered an anomaly even among the Thirteen Clans. Their two families had fought a holy war for thousands of years against the Camarilla formed by the other seven clans. Why would they ever fear such a petty threat?
"Bishop, do you think we have never killed a Cardinal before? Or do you actually believe your title will make us hesitate?"
The monsters mocked them brazenly, sizing up the two Cardinals from head to toe.
"If we kill two Cardinals right here and offer them as a ritual sacrifice to Crown Lilith, I wonder if we will receive an even greater Divine Gift?"The ritual sacrifice on Sicily Island two days ago had left them obsessed. The power born from pure blood and fear had multiplied their overall strength fourfold in a single night!
Now, an even more tempting path to power lay right in front of them, causing many to lick their lips in anticipation!
Witnessing this scene, the two Cardinals knew it was time to put their lives on the line!
They exchanged a firm glance. Without hesitation, they fell to their knees before the divine relief of the Lord, adopting their proper stance as Bishops:
"Seven-flame Creator Before the Highest Throne!
O Cherubim Chariot forged by the fire of spirituality, Have you seen this vineyard drowned in rotting weeds—
Vipers lay their eggs within the holy chalice, Adders weave their nests inside the confessional!
I beg the branding tongues of the Seraphim to cleanly burn away this blasphemy!"
This prayer was a herald of war, a beacon designed to draw divine gaze.
After delivering this invocation, Rasinger rose to his feet. Facing the horde of vampires, he called out over his shoulder, "Keep going, Cardinal Niki! I will buy you time!"
As he spoke, he channeled the descending light. Radiant power erupted from his hands, manifesting as a special shield of light that enveloped the entire Milan Cathedral.
This was a guardian Precept identical to the one wielded by Angus, serving as the ultimate manifestation of his strength. Since he had sworn to protect this place, he would naturally give it his all!
His swift action caught the vampires off guard, leaving them mildly surprised!
"Wow, a Bishop who possesses the Power of Holy Light? It seems the power of your holy water and sacred texts hasn't completely dried up yet... But still, you think this pathetic sliver of strength can stop us?"
A vampire took to the sky. The bat wings on his back beat furiously, carving a dark trajectory through the night!
Then, a bright crimson glow bloomed from his hands, morphing into a bright blade that slashed fiercely against the light shield. Striking a single point to break the whole, he shattered the barrier completely!
Rasinger's complexion instantly paled. Having obtained his Precept only recently, he naturally lacked the fortitude of Angus to withstand such overwhelming destructive force.
Watching this spectacle, the agents and media personnel hiding on the outskirts of Milan cheered inwardly, finding the trip absolutely worthwhile!
They had all flocked here following news of the great evacuation of Milan. The Catholic Church had never hidden its intentions; as a religious institution rather than a sovereign nation, they had always guided their congregation through Divine Faith!
Guided by this faith, they successfully organized the massive evacuation of the city, but in doing so, they also blatantly exposed every detail of what was happening.
Consequently, spies and journalists had long since tucked themselves away in the nearby mountains and hidden corners, eager to capture first-hand intelligence and breaking news.
Naturally, no one bothered to stop them. The Church had already made everything public; if these people still wanted to court death, there was nothing to be done.
Yet, the thrill coursing through these onlookers was undeniable. They witnessed the brilliant white light, the pillar of light shrouding the entire church, the bat-winged monstrosities, and the heaven-reaching blade aura. It was all so glaringly obvious, fully exposed against the night sky!
However, the devout followers of the Church were gripped by anxiety. "Did the light shield just shatter? Doesn't that mean Milan has lost its last shred of defense?"
"O Lord, please protect the Bishop! He is a truly good man!"
"Yes, please protect this city. We don't want to lose our homes..."
Though many had already evacuated, they continued their prayers. This was their home, after all, and they refused to see it reduced to a desolate wasteland. Thus, a massive surge of Wish Power gathered once more, flowing directly toward the vicinity of the Church.
The global Heads of State were also paying close attention to the unfolding events. Compared to the self-isolated Nordic region, the Catholic nation of Italy was clearly worth greater expectation.
Naturally, the most invested among them was Prime Minister Lomeni. The moment she saw that blinding blade aura, she realized she had been wrong—drastically wrong!
The blade strike was overwhelmingly grand and sweeping. Aided by laboratory calculations, accurate data regarding its energy and scale were quickly compiled.
"Madam Prime Minister, the energy from that single attack is enough to wipe out an entire battalion! What's worse, because it is an energy attack, we have absolutely no means to defend against it!"
Hearing this, Lomeni's expression turned to one of profound relief. "Thank goodness. Thank goodness I didn't make a grand boast and send the military in..."
If entire military formations had been slaughtered in the streets of Milan, she would have been completely unable to maintain her position as Prime Minister.
However, seeing the suddenly shattered light shield made her heart twist in panic. "Dear God, Cardinal Rasinger and Cardinal Niki are both there. If they die right at the church steps, Catholics worldwide will cause widespread outrage!"
It wouldn't just be outrage; it would spark a catastrophic global uproar!
Just as she was agonizing over whether to deploy personnel or send scouts to assess the situation, a magnificent prayer suddenly echoed throughout the entire city!
"You are the merciful Father, You are the perfect Lord, You are the Lord of Hosts!
The Lord of Hosts shall bless His followers, and as they sing their hymns of triumph, He shall bestow upon them a divinely bestowed radiance!
May the Lord of Hosts be with you!"
Empowered by the holy light, the prayer of the Lord of Hosts resonated through the sky, blooming into a magnificent halo that bathed the entire city in its glow!
Under Niki's invocation, this curtain of light was fully activated. In that profound moment, the words of God embraced the surging Wish Power swirling in the air.
The most immediate and striking effect was the agonizing shrieks of the vampires!
Even though none of them were mere blood thralls, they still could not withstand such resplendent radiance. Dark fumes billowed from their bodies as their flesh scorched beneath the holy glow.
However, as the lead vampire unfurled a crimson canopy to block out the light, their terrifying regenerative abilities kicked in, slowly mending their burns.
After all, a Divine Priest's prayer of this magnitude was a single, explosive burst. It couldn't be sustained indefinitely. Niki was not Pope Mario; he couldn't marshal the Wish Power of an entire nation. The light quickly faded, leaving the two exhausted old men alone to face the horde of vampires!
"How unexpected. To think the supposedly feeble Church still harbored two devout zealots... In that case, I certainly can't leave your souls intact. Otherwise, once you ascend to Heaven, won't you just make trouble for us every day?"
The lead vampire seemed to have sensed an opportunity and barked out an order. "Send them on their way! Initiate the ritual sacrifice and offer them to Lady Lilith!"
"There is no need!" Standing his ground and supporting the heavily injured Rasinger, Niki suddenly let out a laugh. "Your apocalypse has already arrived!"
"Cardinal Rasinger wasn't just threatening you earlier. He was stating an absolute truth... Make a move, and face clan annihilation!"
Having spoken his piece, he fell silent. He steadied himself and stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Rasinger, as if patiently waiting for something.
The vampires were momentarily stunned. They had assumed the Cardinals had some secret weapon hidden away, but were they just waiting for death?
Infuriated, they lunged forward. A blood-red talon was just inches from slicing across Niki's throat when a freezing, ethereal voice halted them in their tracks.
"Are you the ones who caused Archangel Raziel to specifically instruct us to descend to the mortal realm?"
As the voice echoed, the vampire who had reached out his hand lost it entirely in a flash of blinding light.
Under the terrified gazes of the vampires, the two old men slowly opened their eyes. However, their dark pupils and white sclerae had vanished, replaced by an endless expanse of radiant white light pouring outward!
"Punishing Angel, Eve!"
"Condemning Angel, Anlamile!"
They announced their names simultaneously. Their bodies levitated as pairs of luminous wings sprouted from their shoulders, staring down at the dark creatures with absolute indifference.
"The Lord has sent us to deliver judgment!"
