From God of Lies to Lord of All Worlds

Chapter 15: Believe in This Kind of Story

Chapter 15: Believe in This Kind of Story

The flames appeared eerie and ghostly under the sacrifice of blood and heart.

Normally, these damp substances should have extinguished the flames when thrown into the fire.

But it was clearly visible that under Ivan's prayers, the flames actually burned even more intensely.

Not only more intense, but they gradually differentiated into some black flames from the red fire.

These flames continued burning, yet the expected crackling sound of wood burning suddenly became inaudible, the entire space turning silent and profound.

From within the black flames, a mist gradually rose, transforming into a special human figure before Ivan.

His lower body took the form of smoke, while his upper body gradually revealed a human shape.

On his face, black lines surrounded his eyes, extending downward to his cheeks, revealing his extremely cruel appearance.

Seeing this scene, Ivan immediately prostrated himself kneeling, "Thank you for your blessing, honorable Cocijo Your Grace!"

"The current you does not yet have the qualification to address me as Your Grace!" Cocijo said, narrowing his eyes. "But, every sacrifice must have an end, every plea must have a reward. What do you desire?"Ivan dared not say anything, as this sacrifice was originally a task, not his request, so he should have remained silent.

But he saw the corpses of his wife and child and didn't want to miss this opportunity, so he could only kneel down again.

"Please forgive me, I want my wife to have a chance to return..."

Seeing this, Cocijo narrowed his eyes, his image burning in the flames as if also scorching the soul of the believer before him.

This was certainly not false - Ivan's body immediately twisted in agony.

Immense pain showed on his face; he couldn't even speak as he knelt on the ground, twisting and writhing like a maggot.

Five minutes later, he finally recovered from this pain and saw Cocijo's indifferent expression.

Only then did he realize that the deity before him was the god of death and sacrifice, also the war deity governing violence and destruction.

Pleading to preserve his wife's life in His presence meant opposing Him!

"Your will is more resilient than I imagined! Since you've endured the pain of sacrifice, I shall grant your wish!"

Cocijo raised his hand, and on the torch he held, special flames gradually ignited within the burning fire.

Within these flames, a woman's face quietly appeared!

"Layla!" Seeing the woman's face, the man who hadn't cried out even during the terrible soul torture instantly shed tears.

Gazing at the woman's face in the flames, he felt his body tremble, "I'm sorry! I'm sorry... I... I couldn't protect you..."

His tears streamed down, then were caught by the woman, who reached out from the flames to caress her lover's face.

"Ivan... my love... I don't blame you, you must take care of yourself, darling, I love you!"

The woman disappeared from the flames, leaving behind an empty torch and the deity watching expressionlessly.

Cocijo tapped Ivan with his spear, "Her soul will not be placed in the Land of the Dead. You know what this means!"

Ivan's previously dim eyes suddenly brightened. Cocijo was the sacrifice god and death god, holding authority over death!

And in Maya mythology, souls that don't go to the Land of the Dead naturally possess the possibility of resurrection.

Ivan immediately knelt on the ground without the slightest hesitation, "I am your most faithful servant, who will become the sharpest tip on your obsidian spear!"

Although he knew this might be empty promises from Cocijo, even if they were empty, he had to obediently and without complaint swallow them.

"Good! Then, go perform a grand sacrifice!" Cocijo said.

Soon, the fire extinguished, the deity's figure disappeared, and the man carried his wife's corpse as he walked out of this "Red Mansion."

The scene ended.

"Click!" San Diego Police Department Deputy Chief Pierre White turned off the projection before him, looking somewhat headache-ridden at the police officers, sergeants, and detectives around him.

What had just been played was surveillance footage that city police had retrieved from this building filled to the brim with bloodshed.

The surveillance was well-preserved, with almost all situations clearly visible to a frightening degree.

Pierre rubbed his burning temples, feeling like his social values had been severely devastated.

"So, the Gray Wolf Gang was completely wiped out by one person, correct?" he said.

"Yes, sir!" the officer specifically responsible for this matter replied. "When we arrived, everyone was skewered and hung up there, no one was alive."

Pierre thought of the photos he'd just seen, of those Gray Wolf Gang members hung everywhere like meat skewers, and felt nauseous.

He prided himself on having seen many crime scenes at the border, yet still couldn't accept such a scene.

"Moreover, those people's bodies didn't have a single drop of blood, and there were no blood traces on the surrounding ground, as if..." the officer continued, "...they were drained dry by something!"

Hearing this, Pierre felt his head buzz, his whole condition deteriorating.

After a long moment, he finally said, "I understand! Seal all these materials, highest confidentiality classification, everyone signs confidentiality agreements, and undergo one week of psychological counseling and administrative control!"

"Yes!" everyone nodded in agreement, then withdrew from the conference room.

This confidentiality was certainly necessary - the scenes that had just appeared in the footage, whether bullet-blocking, deities, or sacrifices, were all far beyond their imagination!

Those things cults used to deceive people had suddenly become reality. If truly exposed, it would inevitably cause unlimited social turmoil!

Moreover, these things were mostly real now.

Pierre unplugged the storage device containing this recording, carefully placed it in a briefcase, and locked the briefcase in a nearby safe.

"Why hasn't the Chief returned yet..." Pierre just wanted to slack off. He was just a police officer about to retire, why was he suddenly burdened with so many matters?

But thinking about that situation currently in Vespuchi Town, Pierre also had nothing to say. Could he claim that an envoy of the "Lord" was less important than this murder case?

Even if this murder case was related to Native American deities.

Of course he couldn't say that. He could only stare blankly at the materials in his hand.

Besides these surveillance recordings, there were also some officers' reports about the scene.

Such as those corpses skewered on wooden and iron rods, the shattered body parts at the entrance, the two fire pits at the third-floor sacrifice scene, and those bullets that struck the man but fell to the ground.

Each and every one of these things had already proven many things to him.

But Pierre couldn't really do nothing either. Looking at the printed image of the deity in the smoke from the materials in his hand, he made a phone call.

"This is the San Diego Police Department, I'm Deputy Chief Pierre White. Help me find your school's folklore and mythology professor..."

"Yes, yes, specializing in Central American mythology is fine. We have some cases that require his cooperation."

Normally, someone in Pierre's position wouldn't believe in gods or such stories, but the things placed before his eyes forced him to believe!
