Chapter 629: Upset
Chapter 629: Upset
As she spoke, the champagne in her tilted glass mirrored her face.
Lily and Yvonne Winslow exchanged glances, trying to glean useful information from each other’s eyes.
However, it was fruitless.
Lily turned her head slightly and gently asked her, "How do you know you won’t get it if you haven’t even tried?"
Yvonne Winslow lowered her voice as well and encouraged her tenderly, "I think the young lad from the Lawrence Family has a bit of a special interest in you."
"He and today’s bridesmaid have been exchanging glances constantly!"
With those words, the atmosphere by the fountain subtly shifted.
The relationship between the bridesmaid and Finnian Lawrence was yet to be confirmed, unclear whether they were old acquaintances or connected by someone else—they indeed exchanged eye contact several times.
The afternoon wind stirred, and the water around the stone columns shimmered with a layer of silver light.
They switched topics to avoid spoiling the joyous mood of the wedding celebration.
The protagonist of their earlier discussion was now in a hotel lounge.
"Finnian, the upbringing you’ve received since childhood doesn’t allow you to deliberately leave a girl hanging and embarrassed."
The speaker was Mr. Lawrence, with a few strands of white hair, his tone somber and laden with warnings.
Finnian Lawrence outwardly acknowledged his mistake, yet inwardly he remained detached.
He believed he was simply playing the role of the best man.
To his surprise, Mr. Lawrence had informed him at the last minute that the bridesmaid was one of his upcoming arranged dates.
Finnian Lawrence disliked last-minute decisions, which always left him feeling anxious and at a loss—he was someone who planned everything meticulously.
Moreover, Lily Sloan’s presence unsettled him, leaving him with no mind to engage with other women or make polite exchanges.
The middle-aged man on the sofa slammed his teacup down with a "snap" and said, "Don’t just be putting on an act here. Go out there and apologize to the girl!"
"Understood, Father."
"Don’t think that just because the old man stands by you, I won’t dare to address you accordingly."
Mr. Lawrence continued with a cold voice, bringing up Elder Lawrence.
Finnian Lawrence held deep respect for his grandfather and would not tolerate anyone using him as a topic, not even his parents.
His expression turned colder, albeit his tone remained calm: "You asked me to be the best man, I did. You want me to talk to that stranger girl, I’ve talked. What must I do to satisfy you?"
After he spoke, he narrowed his eyes slightly.
Just when Mr. Lawrence thought he might rebel, Finnian returned to his humble and polite demeanor, gently saying, "The role of the best man ends here. There are matters at Serendipity Pavilion that need handling, enjoy your time with Mom."
Mr. Lawrence was furious, pounding the table and shouting, "Get out! Just get out!"
Finnian gracefully rose, maintaining his composure, even when spoken to like that, he still nodded courteously before leaving.
The wedding was already drawing to a close.
Jasper Sinclair planned to leave early; he asked Nora Northwood, "Do you want to leave, or should we wait?"
"Let’s wait for it to end; otherwise, when everyone disperses, it won’t look good—we owe it to your childhood friend."
While they whispered for a moment, they saw Finnian Lawrence leaving from a certain direction.
"Finnian’s expression doesn’t look good."
This icy demeanor was the first time Nora had seen him like this.
Jasper Sinclair subtly guessed the direction of the situation but didn’t clarify. He simply redirected his companion’s attention, teasingly saying, "Is it really reasonable to be concerned about another man in front of me?"
