Chapter 495: Shared Dinner
Chapter 495: Shared Dinner
On days when inspiration is lacking, time seems to slip by especially quickly.
After the summer heat passes, the daylight quietly shortens. At this moment, the sky is already wrapped in a slanting afterglow.
Nora Northwood returned the notebook of formulas to the drawer. Her delicate hands washed repeatedly in the sink before she was satisfied.
Nora made her final decision; she did not inform Jasper Sinclair. Since she had already resolved to sever their marital relationship, she must not let lingering ties remain.
The reason she made this decision was because of Rhys Linden’s appearance.
Rhys Linden: I don’t want to be the scapegoat!
When Nora stepped out of the fragrance studio, it was exactly six o’clock.
She stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, overlooking the distant Bund night view, immersing herself in it.
Half an hour passed, she left the building precisely at the point.
The staff whispered behind her footsteps, "I can’t believe President Northwood is actually leaving work on time today!"
"It’s really quite odd."
Nora had been running VK for over six months, and working late into the night had become commonplace.
Several times, she even slept directly in the office.
With gossip still behind her, she was already in the parking lot.
Nora found her parking spot, which was for her recently purchased Bentley Continental, with a setup that cost millions, causing her a great deal of pain. But thinking about how inconvenient it was without a car, she had clenched her teeth and bought it.
She got into the car.
It was the evening rush hour, and the busy sections of the commercial district were filled with all kinds of luxury cars.
Horns of varying lengths sounded in her ear, all urging the car at the very front. Everyone was eager to rush home.
Nora grabbed a White Rabbit candy from a small tin and put it in her mouth.
Ever since donating blood, she felt her body had weakened significantly, so she carried candy with her, just in case.
She rested the candy against one side, her cheek bulging, truly resembling a rabbit nibbling on a leaf.
There was a red light ahead, and during the wait, Nora sent a WeChat message to Elaine.
"Aunt Hutchinson, there’s a bit of traffic on the road; I should be there in about ten minutes."
The reply came quickly: "Finn and I just got to the restaurant downstairs. Take your time, and drive safely."
The road was terribly jammed, and Nora contemplated giving up on dinner. But then she remembered that Elaine had helped her before, so she patiently and slowly continued driving.
Fifteen minutes later, the cream blue Bentley stopped downstairs at the restaurant.
Nora tossed the car keys to the attendant and headed upstairs to the restaurant herself.
Classical Western music streamed from the speakers, covering the sound of conversations. Entering the elevator lobby, the outside noise was instantly muffled.
Nora rubbed her temples, trying hard to shake off some of the weariness from her complexion. While the elevator hadn’t arrived yet, she added another layer of lipstick to enhance her look.
"Aunt Hutchinson, Mr. Morgan, I’m sorry I’m late," Nora apologized as soon as she entered the door.
She rarely met Elaine in private, and in the few opportunities, arriving late was hardly appropriate, both sentimentally and ethically.
"We didn’t set a specific time; we just said to gather after work, so how can you be late?" Elaine’s smiling words eased the awkwardness.
The three sat facing each other, and Elaine asked again, "Why didn’t Jasper come with you?"
"He has an engagement tonight, so we’ll probably have to wait for the next time to gather together."
After answering, Nora still felt somewhat guilty, her heart pounding uncontrollably.
The other two did not doubt the truthfulness of her words; after all, Jasper is a chairman of a major group, and meeting him usually requires an appointment, let alone this kind of impromptu get-together.
