Chapter 482: Not the Driver
Chapter 482: Not the Driver
The next day.
Peach Bell had the butler get her a new phone, and she got in touch with Liam Jacobs.
The young girl was inexperienced in the world, easily trusting others.
Liam showed her the paternity test report, revealing the nature of their relationship.
Peach didn’t understand the complexities of adult relationships; she just expressed her true feelings over the phone: "I like Sinclair. I want to stay by his side."
"I have a way for you to stay by his side, but you have to do as I say. Can you do that?"
Liam seductively persuaded the young girl, guessing her simple-mindedness and intending to exploit it.
For him, the appearance of a biological sister was too sudden, and he had yet to formulate a plan and needed to think long term.
He hesitated whether to tell Rachel Woodward about this.
...
On the day marking the beginning of autumn, Nora Northwood received a call from Jasper Sinclair.
The sky darkened early. As usual, she worked overtime until seven o’clock and was surprised by the call.
"Is something up?" she asked over the phone, with an aloof and cold tone.
It felt as though they really had nothing to do with each other.
Jasper’s heart ached, torn by an overwhelming sense of emptiness, even making it painful to breathe.
He mocked himself, "President Northwood is so busy. Can’t I just chat with you if there’s nothing else going on?"
Nora disliked his tone, "Divorced couples should have nothing to discuss."
"I haven’t signed the divorce papers; legally, you’re still my wife!"
Nora disregarded him, her spikes and edges were all standing tall, keeping everyone at a distance.
The man on the other end knew he wouldn’t get anywhere and stopped the small talk, steering the conversation back to business, "There’s a charity event the night after tomorrow, and I need you to accompany me."
"Why not find a female companion?"
Nora didn’t agree immediately, unsure if a trap awaited her.
The other party explained, "With a legally wedded wife, it is not the Sinclair Family’s way to find a female companion outside. Moreover, you should understand how significant the impact on The Sinclair Group’s stock market would be if news of our divorce spreads."
Not only The Sinclair Group but even VK would be affected, something she clearly understood.
In hesitation, Jasper spoke again, "As a group director, I must consider and account for the company’s overall interests."
"Send me the time and place."
After that, the call ended, and Nora’s WeChat notification sounded immediately.
The sun set, and the moon rose.
On the evening of the charity event, the two met up early.
Nora walked towards the McLaren parked by the street. She pulled the back seat car door but couldn’t open it, thinking it was due to her lack of strength.
Suddenly, the car window rolled down.
To her surprise, Jasper was sitting in the driver’s seat, resting one hand on the steering wheel, turning his head to say, "Sit in the front."
Nora didn’t want to sit too close to him and remained still.
"I’m not your chauffeur."
"..." The answer was met with another round of silent hesitation.
Nora reluctantly sat in the passenger seat, feeling completely out of place.
She glanced at Jasper from the corner of her eye. The man was dressed in a suit with a blue-cold gleaming white shirt, looking very formal.
For a moment, Nora felt that seeing him in formal wear, personally driving to pick her up at VK’s entrance, was condescending.
She failed to notice that what was meant to be a surreptitious glance had become an overt gaze.
