Chapter 436: A Shattered Marriage
Chapter 436: A Shattered Marriage
Nora Northwood drove a Bentley Continental GT out of the garage, the keys given to her by the security guard.
The creamy blue car body meandered aimlessly along the streets. At this moment, her emotions had quieted down considerably, but more confusion surfaced.
Return to the villa area?
Return to Southwood Court?
Or perhaps to the urban village where she lived for the past twenty years? None of these places felt like her home.
In the span of nine thousand square kilometers, she had no home.
Nora suppressed the overwhelming emotions, and when she came back to herself, the car was already parked downstairs at VK.
She was surprised to find that a certain office on the second floor still had its lights on. She slowly unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car. Before going in, she intentionally asked the night shift security guard, "Is anyone still in the office?"
"Manager Winslow is still here."
Nora entered the building while another car parked behind the Bentley.
Jasper Sinclair lowered his car window, as the night wind swept by. He rested his arm on the window ledge and casually lit a cigarette.
It felt as if there was a breach in his chest cavity, continuously letting the night wind penetrate, causing a painful sting.
He couldn’t discern his emotions—whether it was irritation or panic—he only knew it was triggered by Nora’s departure.
...
Inside the building.
When Yvonne Winslow saw Nora, she was initially surprised, but gleaned information from her reddened eyes.
She didn’t know that her attempt to disguise had already been seen through.
"Why are you still at the office?"
"Updated the payroll query system ahead of schedule, and just taking advantage of the company’s free air conditioning and coffee." Yvonne’s words warmed the atmosphere.
"Install a rest room upstairs just for you to use."
After the joke, the two started talking business, "How has your experience been in the administrative department these past two months?"
"Honestly, it’s somewhat hard to adapt. I’d rather be a junior secretary again."
These words were said without intent while the listener took them to heart.
Perhaps it was the unpleasant mood at play, Nora directly said, "Move up to the third floor tomorrow; I happen to need a reliable person by my side."
Of course, it wasn’t just a spur-of-the-moment decision for her.
The last time she went to Paris, she realized that she needed someone by her side to assist with her work.
Megan Underwood needed to stay at the fragrance lab, Lily Sloan had a pure personality, and Annie might not be willing.
So, giving this position to Yvonne Winslow was most appropriate.
Clearly, Yvonne didn’t expect this decision, tilting her head and asking, "Are you sure you don’t want to reconsider?"
"No need to consider, I’ve already decided."
"What about the administrative department?"
"We’ll recruit someone new, I happen to have a suitable candidate."
And with that, it was tentatively settled.
Yvonne left VK, with Nora permitting her to rest for the morning tomorrow; she’d report to the third floor in the afternoon.
As for herself, she slept in the office.
She curled up on the sofa, with her inner unrest not fueled by just tonight’s events. She began to ponder the necessity of her marriage’s existence.
Unfortunately, this confusion came a bit too late.
A year ago when they registered, everything seemed to be proceeding as planned. When did the plans derail... was it when she said she wanted to have children with Jasper Sinclair?
The person downstairs never left, the car’s engine turned off and slowly cooled down.
Jasper Sinclair watched as the light in the building shifted from the second to the third floor. The reason he didn’t stop Peach Bell’s actions was because, in his eyes, this young girl was like a little sister to him.
Peach Bell indeed liked him, but that affection wasn’t solely romantic.
As for these things, Jasper Sinclair hadn’t figured out how to explain them to Nora.
Destined to be another sleepless night.
