Chapter 414: Rushing Back Overnight
Chapter 414: Rushing Back Overnight
Nora Northwood had dinner with Elaine, and by the time she returned to the hotel, it was nine o’clock in the evening.
She discovered that all her clothes and belongings had been packed.
"Did you pack your luggage so quickly?"
"Something came up at the old house, and I need to go back tonight."
Jasper Sinclair referred to "I" instead of "we," which sounded worth investigating.
With just one sentence, the emotions Nora had been suppressing for a long time surged again, and she said, "Don’t tell me it’s because of Peach Bell again."
After a long silence, Jasper chose to evade her question by giving another reason, "The forum is over, Nora, it’s time for us to go back."
"You have your matters, and I have my arrangements. Please don’t impose your thoughts on me," Nora growled, and it wasn’t hard to hear the fatigue in her voice.
Jasper, however, didn’t share her views; he looked at the matter from a man’s perspective, not understanding what she meant by "impose."
"So my traveling all the way to Corinthia to accompany you on a business trip is a kind of pressure for you."
Nora was speechless and found it difficult to explain.
Her silence seemed more like acquiescence in Jasper’s eyes.
After a while, Nora spoke again, "We are husband and wife, but also two independent people. I don’t need you to arrange everything for me. Since you have an important reason to return, you should go back first."
By the end of her words, her voice had become so soft that it was almost inaudible.
Yet this softness was like a loaded bullet, striking right at the man’s heart.
Finally, Jasper released his luggage and left the hotel alone.
In the vast presidential suite, only the delicate figure of Nora remained. She took deep breaths repeatedly to adjust her heartbeat to a normal rhythm.
Her whole body seemed boneless, collapsing on the sofa, curled up, her fingers gripping the collar of her clothes, the stabbing pain in her heart making her tremble all over.
Grievance and heartache surged within her. She tilted her head back, trying hard not to let the tears in her eyes fall.
She couldn’t understand how things between her and Jasper had developed to this point.
It took Nora nearly an hour to adjust her emotions again. Sadness aside, she still needed to summarize the key points of her recent talks.
The hotel bedroom was very quiet, with only the sound of typing on the keyboard.
Moonlight streamed in from the window sill, spreading over the rug and illuminating the person sitting on it.
Nora did not change her original schedule because of Jasper’s departure.
She stayed in the Corinthia region, conducted market research on aromatherapy, and readjusted VK’s client direction.
Until everything was done, she rushed back to Stanton City without stopping.
At this point, there was still just over a month left until the end of June.
The series of products related to the twenty-four solar terms was already halfway done, and she needed to bring her recent findings to the lab for further digesting, while also developing new products.
The journey from the airport to the villa took a total of one and a half hours.
Nora held her phone, pondering whether to inform Jasper of her return.
After hesitating for a long time, she ultimately didn’t send the message.
Along the way, the streets were bustling with traffic, and various kinds of business cars sped past her.
Stanton City never lacked hardworking people, nor did it lack hardworking young individuals.
Nora began to consider another question: Could she have reached where she was today without Jasper’s repeated help?
The answer was, certainly not.
