Chapter 277: The Fallen Lipstick
Chapter 277: The Fallen Lipstick
Nora Northwood, who had just been playing chess with The Sandman, suddenly jolted awake, springing up from the couch.
She ran barefoot to the entryway.
But when she saw Jasper Sinclair, she froze in place, her almond-shaped eyes widening as if she couldn’t believe what she was seeing.
A strong smell of alcohol wafted over, slightly stinging her nose.
Jasper Sinclair seemed disoriented, his exposed skin blushing red, and most crucially, his arm was draped over another woman’s shoulder.
"Jasper drank a bit too much tonight, I’m the one bringing him back," the woman’s words were ambiguous, still showing no intention of letting go.
Nora remembered this woman had also appeared at the restaurant that evening.
She quickly composed her emotions and, in the tone of a hostess, said, "Thank you for bringing my husband back, come in and rest for a bit."
"No need." The woman declined, paused, and added, "Just remind Jasper to check his email."
"Alright."
Nora couldn’t figure out what kind of relationship they had to call each other so intimately.
Once the woman left, it took Nora quite an effort to pull Jasper to the sofa.
"Jasper, Jasper, such a lovely name to call," Nora grumbled discontentedly, dropping him down directly.
Jasper’s tall body was awkward on the sofa, his lower back uncomfortable, prompting him to shift positions.
"Thud—"
A Chanel lipstick fell from the man’s suit pocket, rolling a few times on the floor before stopping right at Nora’s toes.
She looked down at it, her mind already in chaos.
Time froze in that second, Nora’s eyes reddening visibly, a wave of unease sweeping around her, leaving her somewhat rigid.
She lowered her gaze, her fine eyelashes casting a small fan-shaped shadow on her eyelids, obscuring the emotions in her eyes.
She didn’t know how long she maintained this posture before she bent down.
The lipstick was picked up and returned to Jasper Sinclair’s suit pocket.
Nora mechanically returned to the bedroom, ignoring the man on the living room sofa.
She leaned back half on the bed, her mind filled with countless thoughts.
One scene after another emerged in her mind, as if old films were playing in a projection room.
These were all things she and Jasper Sinclair had experienced together.
Their first meeting, their trip to Palm Cove, him getting jealous for her...
The final scene froze on that fallen lipstick.
As Nora blinked, large tears fell and soaked the silk pillow.
The pillow that night was full of moldy dreams.
It wasn’t until three or four in the morning that Nora succumbed to sleepiness, her eyes slowly closing.
However, no matter how late she slept the previous night, she would get up on time.
Eight o’clock without fail.
As soon as Nora opened her eyes, she felt a splitting headache, something in her brain threatening to explode.
She frowned and rubbed her temples, taking a good while to recover.
When she went to the bathroom, she saw her red and swollen eyes, feeling a deep discomfort in her heart.
To improve her complexion, Nora uncharacteristically put on heavy makeup.
Finishing with a coat of bright red lipstick.
As she headed out, passing through the living room, she noticed Jasper showed no signs of waking up.
Only one long leg draped outside, making his sleeping posture look a bit strange.
There was no way around it, the sofa could not accommodate his nearly six-foot-three frame.
