Chapter 276: Dinner
Chapter 276: Dinner
Someone remarked: I shouldn’t have asked.
Nora Northwood looked at the signal that kept circling and decided not to wait any longer. She placed the phone beside her and focused entirely on the dishes in the restaurant.
She reached out with her chopsticks to the slow-cooked beef, chewing and savoring it thoroughly. One had to admit, the clash of top-tier ingredients and flavors directly challenged the taste buds.
While eating from her bowl, she didn’t forget the ’Bird’s Nest’ filled with fruit and shrimp fritters. "Uncle, this dish is my first time trying it."
The breakfast staple of fritters was transformed by the chef into an elevated culinary experience.
Among them, the Jiang Qian white fish, with its tender and delectable texture, was the most memorable for Nora and ideal for fish lovers.
The dinner left her with an unprecedented sense of satisfaction.
"Nora, it seems you have some research in culinary dishes."
Nora candidly admitted, "When I was young, no one cooked at home, so I often had to solve my own meals. Over time, I learned a few home-cooked dishes."
However, she modestly mentioned home-cooked dishes; when she put in effort, she could even prepare a full Manchu-Han banquet.
Jasper Sinclair excused himself to go to the bathroom, intentionally detouring through the hall on the second floor.
He intended to catch Nora’s attention, but unexpectedly he saw her, satisfied from the meal, chatting and laughing with her old rival Aaron Lowell.
Immediately, a nameless anger rose in his chest.
Jasper wished to rush over to her directly, but recalling the few people in the private room, he suppressed his discontent.
He checked his phone, still without any message from Nora.
After hesitating for a while, Jasper sent the room number to Nora, along with a message: "Come to this room after you’re done. I’ll be on the eighth floor."
He didn’t know that Nora’s phone couldn’t receive any signal.
Soon after, Jasper returned to his private room.
The guests he entertained that day were a few key figures from government agencies.
The Sinclair Group wanted to acquire a piece of land at Southgate Bay, and good relations with these people were necessary.
Currently, Southgate Bay is a prime piece of real estate, with countless eyes eagerly coveting it.
If they could acquire this piece of land, the establishment of VK’s independent company wouldn’t be far off.
At that moment, Nora had no idea Jasper was busy because of her affairs, running around.
That night, she ultimately didn’t receive any message from him.
"Nora, it’s already late outside. It’s not safe for you to go home alone. How about I drive you home?"
Nora thought it over; Aaron’s route home just happened to pass by Southwood Court, so she agreed.
"Thank you, Uncle."
On the way back to Southwood Court, she suspected her phone was malfunctioning and restarted it once.
During the restart, the system automatically intercepted Jasper’s message.
Just like that, neither of them received any of each other’s messages.
After Nora returned home, she washed up simply.
Then, she sat idly on the living room sofa, waiting for Jasper to come home.
The glass coffee table reflected her face, resembling the cold crescent moon in the sky.
The living room was rather quiet.
The clock on the wall made a constant "tick-tock" sound, which was particularly loud in the silence.
As time passed slowly, Nora’s eyelids started to feel heavy.
Just as she was about to fall asleep hugging a pillow, someone opened the door from outside.
