Fated: The Alpha's Unwanted Luna

Chapter 188: The Alpha from hell

Chapter 188: The Alpha from hell

Viola watched in genuine terror as the two fought, tearing through the hallway and destroying everything around them, and the helplessness of it settled over her like a stone in a river, she could not dare interfere in a fight between two shifted wolves while she was still in her human form, not unless she wanted to be crushed underfoot.

The very first lesson every werewolf learned from childhood was never to jump into that kind of fight without your wolf. And though Matt was holding his own and returning every bite and every blow Javier delivered, they were both bleeding heavily, and the destruction around them was growing as they threw each other against doors, walls, and decorative items in the hallways.

"He is going to kill him!" Sofia suddenly cried out, and for a brief moment Viola thought she meant Javier was going to kill Matt, but then she saw that the she-wolf’s wide, terrified eyes were fixed entirely on her husband. The same husband who had been quietly poisoning her. Really?

"Stop him, he is biting my Javier’s throat!" She cried, and actually lunged toward the fight. Viola grabbed her back by the arm with a quick pull, unable in that moment to believe what kind of hold Javier had on this woman even now. Shouldn’t she be relieved that someone was finally biting him and beating some sense into his head?

An abuser like Javier deserve more than a beating!

Viola turned to scold Sofia and hold her back from doing something that would get her killed, and in doing so completely missed the moment Javier fought Matt’s teeth off his throat, turned, seized the heavy broken door of one of the rooms they had destroyed with his jaw, and hurled it directly at Viola with the full intention of caving her skull in and breaking her bones.

Viola felt the shift in the air and heard Matt’s alarmed howl and spun around. She saw the heavy door flying toward her and her body went completely rigid with terror.

She couldn’t move. Couldn’t get out of the way in time. She squeezed her eyes shut instinctively as a thunderous impact sound crashed through the air so loud that she flinched violently, but the pain never came. She still felt completely normal. Only cold. A deep, sudden, biting cold that pressed against her back like a wall of ice.

Viola’s eyes flew open.

What she saw in front of her made her gasp, her eyes going wide and round with pure disbelief.

Right there in front of her stood a mighty wolf with fur that seemed to be made from ash and silver, full and impossibly dense, and he towered over her so completely that she had to crane her neck all the way back just to find the top of him. And right beneath the wolf’s paw, pinned flat against the floor like it weighed nothing at all, was the heavy door that she had been certain would bash her skull to pieces. Underneath that enormous paw it looked like a small toy.

In all of her life, Viola had never seen a wolf this large or this magnificent. The urge to reach out and press her hand into that thick, full fur was immediate and almost overwhelming, but the waves of furious, crushing energy radiating off him were powerful enough to keep every single part of her completely still.

And when the wolf spoke, every hair on her body stood straight on end.

"How dare you touch my woman!"

Those words were directed at Javier’s wolf, who had already dropped down to the floor, bowing instinctively and completely into submission before the Alpha without any choice in the matter at all.

Viola swallowed hard at the silence that followed the Alpha’s howl, as everyone around the hallway went down, bowing instinctively to him as a powerful, suffocating energy rolled off him in waves so strong that even she felt the weight of it, and when Javier didn’t reply quickly enough, Sebastian used his paw to kick the door away and it slammed into his cousin, hitting him against the wall behind him with a resounding impact that made even Viola flinch.

"I won’t repeat myself, how dare you touch my woman?!" The Alpha growled in a terrifyingly low voice.

Matt, who was also bowing with the others and heard the Alpha’s words, cursed quietly under his breath. Sebastian was going to blow their cover wide open with that question if he wasn’t careful!

It was only when a man’s fated mate was hurt by another that such a depth of rage was warranted, and for a woman he had been making everyone believe he had married simply because she won a competition and even made it known he wasn’t sharing her room, this level of fury and the fact that he had shifted inside the building to protect her was going to raise questions he couldn’t easily answer.

Matt tried to reach Sebastian through their mind link to warn him, and realized with a sinking feeling that the link had been shut completely. Un-fucking-believable. Control yourself, man! Matt thought, as he heard Javier’s wolf whimper in pain from the force of the door slamming into him.

"She went against our rules, that is why I touched her!" Javier growled, raising his head and fighting against the aura pressing down on him to face his cousin, the cousin he had wanted to face for a long time but had always been held back from by his damned mother. He winced as he put weight on his legs and felt immediately that the door had done damage to his bones.

"She hid my wife and dared to lay her hands on me! If you have forgotten, allow me to remind you, your useless Luna lacks manners and holds absolutely no regard for our custom of minding one’s own business when it concerns a matter between mates." Javier barked, his anger vibrating off him in waves as he met the burning silver eyes of the Alpha, which looked like silver flames with something alive and furious behind them.

Where the hell had he even come from so suddenly to stop that door from caving the bitch’s skull in? Wasn’t he supposed to be in the hall entertaining his guests? Why was he standing in front of the wolfless and shielding her the way a man only shielded his fated mate?!

"As per our custom, a person who interferes where they have no business is subject to punishment in whatever way the offended party sees fit, and that is exactly what I was doing. Punishing her. And by the moon goddess, I will not let her go unpunished." Javier added without a trace of fear, not caring in the slightest that he was speaking to the supreme Alpha who was nearly double his size in wolf form.

Muffin growled low and dangerously in his throat. "She is the Luna, you do not punish a Luna!"

"She is not my Luna." Javier shot back furiously. "A Luna is someone who carries the wolf to command and suppress others. She lacks that, and along with it, she lacks the basic sense to stay in her place." He was so consumed by his own rage that he wasn’t reading a single one of the danger signs the Alpha was giving off.

Sebastian had always known Javier was a short-tempered man. When they were young they had clashed more times than he could count, fighting like cat and dog until their fathers stepped between them and tried to force some kind of bond between them that never truly formed. Even now, fully grown, his cousin still hadn’t learned to think beyond his own anger, and this time he had gone ahead and crossed a line he had no business crossing.

Sebastian had overlooked many of his cousin’s mindless outbursts over the years. And though his own wife had gone against the rules by interfering in a matter between mates, Javier had absolutely no authority to deliver punishment without first consulting him, both as her husband and as the Alpha. He had gone ahead and laid his hands on his female, and that was unacceptable in every sense of the word.

"If you answer to another Alpha besides me, I dare you to step forward and punish my Luna." Came Sebastian’s voice, calm and quiet and more dangerous for it, as he stepped to the side, moving away from Javier’s path and giving him a clear, unobstructed path to reach Viola, who was standing completely still with a look of mild shock still on her face.

Whether she couldn’t believe she had narrowly escaped the door, or whether she was still overwhelmed by the sheer size of his wolf, he couldn’t be sure, but she turned and looked at him the moment he stepped aside. There was no fear whatsoever in her blue eyes.

"I am no longer standing in your way, dear cousin. Come and punish her."
