Fated: The Alpha's Unwanted Luna

Chapter 183: The Crazy husband at her doorstep_Part 1

Sebastian stood with a glass in his hand that he hadn’t touched, speaking quietly with Doctor Gilbert, who had attended the ceremony as a guest and stayed on through the morning just like everyone else. While he waited for his hellcat, he decided to discuss some things with Gilbert.

"Congratulations on your ceremony!" Doctor Gilbert said enthusiastically, but the Alpha gave only a curt nod in response, and the doctor toned down his excitement, recalling the rumors that the marriage had been forced because of the competition.

He hadn’t even met the bride properly, as he hadn’t gotten to see her face clearly yesterday, and like him, many here were curious about her. However, she seemed to be taking far too much of her sweet time.

"So how is the search coming along so far, supreme Alpha?" He asked, deliberately changing the topic to something that wouldn’t ruin the Alpha’s mood. Gilbert wasn’t looking forward to being frozen out by those steel eyes, for everyone knew Alphas with frost aura were hard to be around when in a bad mood.

"They are still on it. We found a lead into the human world. My men are currently searching their seas and oceans, and hopefully they find a good one this time around and not a dead one like the last time." Sebastian mused, his eyes occasionally and subtly drifting to the entrance door before returning to the doctor standing in front of him.

Gilbert nodded his head. "Indeed. We need a live one to perform the procedure. The texts say it has to be removed while the heart is still beating to make it work, just like it had with your grandfather."

Sebastian sipped his wine as right now he was growing impatient with two things, Viola not showing up, and what he so desperately searched for to help him with the curse if Viola turned out not to be the one.

Many had wondered why the curse had skipped one generation, his grandfather’s generation, and they had no idea that he had used the heart of a creature that was no longer easily found on land, with the help of Doctor Gilbert’s father, who had recorded everything down.

Sebastian also planned to follow that same path just in case things didn’t turn out well with his wife. Even though he strongly believed she was the one, knowing she had a twin, he still needed a plan B.

He had planned to make the trip to Nightshade to find more information about her background, as he couldn’t trust anyone with the matter regarding Viola and the possibility that she might be the prophesied one. Apart from Matt, no one else knew, and he had to go to Nightshade himself to look for her twin before the thirtieth.

Right now, whatever secret about the creature, who was their natural enemy, as werewolves ate them to gain power, he was discussing with Doctor Gilbert was strictly between them. Though it wasn’t something that would cause harm if known, Sebastian still kept an eye on anyone listening to their conversation.

Sebastian took a slow drink from his glass and said nothing more, and Gilbert understood enough to leave their conversation about the creature there before he asked,

"By the way, how is the progress with Miss Zoe’s friend? Has she taken the path we discussed about her finding her mate to help her wolf?"

Before Sebastian could reply, Zoe appeared at his side alongside Nick, who kept his distance from the Alpha.

She looked momentarily taken aback to see her doctor standing with her brother, and she glanced at Gilbert as she came to stand beside Sebastian, a glance that lasted just a little longer than it needed to.

Zoe felt the sudden urge to fix her hair and check her makeup at the sight of the dashing doctor, who flashed her a disarming smile that turned her heart into a puddle. How could a man be this handsome with such sparkling eyes?!

Though her brother was handsome, he was her brother, and his handsomeness had never had any effect on her since she had lived her whole life beside him. But this doctor was a very different matter!

Zoe tucked strands of hair behind her ear as she looked at Doctor Gilbert with stars in her eyes, until Sebastian cleared his throat in irritation and nudged her shoulder.

’Wipe that puppy look off your face, hermanita. You’re embarrassing yourself.’ Sebastian said through their mind link, and Zoe gaped at him before composing herself, fighting the strong urge to glare at her party-pooper brother, who couldn’t allow her to look at her doctor in peace!

"Good morning, Doctor Gilbert." She said, her voice coming out a touch more composed than she felt.

Gilbert smiled at her warmly. "Good morning, Miss Zoe. I hope you are not skipping your medicines?" He asked in that professional voice he used with her and all of his patients.

Zoe’s gray eyes dimmed slightly and she nodded her head. "Of course, I am still taking it. I hear my wolf’s voice once in a while."

Doctor Gilbert grinned in satisfaction. "That’s a big step of progress. Keep taking it on time and in no time at all, your wolf will heal completely and you will be able to shift."

"I will." Zoe said to him with a smile before she turned her eyes firmly to her brother and spoke through their mind link. "Hermano, Vee isn’t going to make it to breakfast and I don’t know how to make her absence acceptable to your guests and the elders."

Sebastian looked at her. "What happened? Is she sick?" He asked, unable to stop the thread of worry that moved through him immediately, his mind going straight to whether he had given her too much of the suppressant the night before. But Zoe quickly put that to rest.

"She’s not sick. Something came up that needed her attention. I will explain it to you properly later. Just help me manage the guests first so they don’t chew her head off for not showing up." Zoe said simply, holding his gaze, and carefully not yet telling him the reason, because she knew her brother well enough to know that with the rivalry between him and Javier, he was not going to like hearing that Vee had taken Sofia into her penthouse. He had warned even Zoe herself, on more than one occasion, to stay well clear of anything or anyone connected to their cousin.

Nick was the only exception to that rule, and that was only because he had quietly passed her brother’s unspoken test of not being a power-hungry man angling for his position the way Javier was.

Javier was a ticking time bomb with an explosive temper and even less regard for family than he had for anything else, someone Sebastian would have cut from the family entirely a long time ago if it weren’t for the fact that he kept family ties out of respect for their dead parents. It was one of the very few soft spots her brother still carried.

So no, he was not going to be pleased when he found out that Vee had not only taken Sofia into her penthouse but had missed her very first breakfast as Luna because of it. And so Zoe had decided that if she was going to tell him the reason, it was best to do it after he had already addressed the guests and the moment had passed. She had no desire to cause a rift in a relationship that finally seemed to be finding its footing.

Sebastian knew he was supposed to be angry, his Luna had failed to appear at her first breakfast as per tradition, in front of guests and elders who were already looking for reasons to find fault with her. But he found, to his own mild surprise, that he cared far more about why she hadn’t come and whether she was all right than he cared about what any of the people in this room thought about it.

Though the curiosity of what could have kept her away was sitting restlessly at the back of his mind, his gaze swept the room once in a single, unhurried pass before he raised his voice just enough for it to carry to everyone.

"The Luna has been held up by something that required her attention. No need to wait, everyone go ahead and sit down." He said it the way he would announce something of no particular consequence, gesturing toward the table with a slight, casual tilt of his glass.

People moved toward their seats, and with the movement came the whispers that moved with them about the Luna.

"Held up by what?"

"Her very first morning as supreme Luna and she can’t show her face at breakfast."

"What did you expect from a wolfless? She probably couldn’t face a room filled with Alphas and Lunas. What a weakling."

"She won’t last. Not even as long as the other two had lasted. She will be gone sooner, mark my words."

The whispers moved around the table freely, passed between people who weren’t bothering to be particularly quiet about it, talking openly on the comfortable assumption that the supreme Alpha couldn’t care less about the woman he had married.

Elder Halvrek took his seat along with the other elders at the table with the slight gritting of his teeth. His eyes narrowed towards the man who controls him. She hadn’t come. He felt a small flicker of irritation at that. He had wanted to watch her face the moment she realized she would be eating fish and study her reaction.

Elder Halvrek had given the orders for everything to be made with fish this morning just so he could test his theories, but it seemed the wench wasn’t going to come. Could it be that she already knew what was waiting for her here and had managed to escape it?

If she was what he thought her to be, this gathering would have been the right opportunity to expose her disguise, for those creatures were as sneaky as hell. The scent he had perceived yesterday couldn’t have come from an ordinary she-wolf.

But no matter. If she was somewhere in this building, there would be another opportunity. He was not a man who ran out of patience easily, especially not when he had everything to gain by rising above all the other elders.

He took a bite of his breakfast and said, "I hope the supreme Luna has a good excuse for keeping us waiting and then not showing up."
