Fated: The Alpha's Unwanted Luna

Chapter 182: The Angry Alpha

Chapter 182: The Angry Alpha

In the large hall where the breakfast was taking place, the atmosphere was suffocating with the combined aura of the many Alphas gathered in one space, particularly for the ordinary werewolves, especially the working omegas who were walking around the hall with instinctively bowed heads to avoid making the mistake of making eye contact with the prestigious guests, despite many of them privately wishing to find their mate among the important people.

Everyone was standing and mingling in clusters rather than sitting down in the luxurious mass dining hall, talking and keeping a careful distance from the supreme Alpha who stood at the far end of the hall, for his mood this morning was naturally repelling even the most important of guests who wished to discuss pack matters with him. He had walked into the hall with a brooding air around him as if he had swallowed a ball of ice that had frozen his face.

Many naturally assumed it was because he had married a disadvantaged female who didn’t have a wolf inside her. Being the supreme Alpha with so many beautiful, intelligent women around him, he must have been feeling cheated that some damn competition had forced him to marry an unimportant, nameless girl with zero background who didn’t even have a wolf.

"It’s very unfortunate, you know. No doubt he would look angry. I guess she must have failed to even keep up with his stamina in bed last night," said one of the Lunas among the guests from another pack as the she-wolves stood around.

"Rather than being married to the Alpha, that girl should have been thrown in some dungeon and kept there. No one would have even known about her. I wonder what is keeping her so late," mused another important she-wolf in bitterness, for she had also been one of the supreme Alpha’s mates who had shared his bed with him more than once and received gifts from him.

But this morning when he walked into the hall, his eyes had moved right past her like she was nothing but air. She had even smiled at him, but if he saw her, those cold eyes didn’t soften a single notch. In fact they hardened even more, and when she had wanted to approach him, his aura had begun to flare out across the hall, repelling people from coming near him.

Was he being like this because he was married now? Who cared about some unimportant wolfless when she wasn’t even his true mate? The she-wolf thought. And not long after, every eye in the hall trailed to the new arrival. Laila. Her elegant heels clicked on the floor as she made her way toward the Alpha despite that oppressive air around him.

They watched in astonishment as she threw her arms around his neck and hugged him. He didn’t push her away. He put one arm around her waist, and the public display immediately made the women who had once believed themselves special to the supreme Alpha, women who had been his mates, realize something.

So it was because of Laila he was being cold to them, and not because of that unimportant wolfless.

"I had almost forgotten that I can’t compete with her. For a moment I thought he was repelling me for the sake of that new Luna. My daddy said any Alpha who allows himself to be tied to a wolfless with no background is paving a road to destruction for himself. I am glad my Alpha is not stupid," mused the she-wolf Tessa, who despite being jealous knew she couldn’t compete with Laila. Had it been someone of lower standing than Laila, it would have been easier to fight for his attention.

"Laila will always be the right person he should have chosen. She will help his reign a great deal and do good for the pack. Besides, she is the one in charge of the she-wolf council after Evangeline’s death. I doubt the new Luna can do anything better than keep people waiting on her, just like she is doing now."

Meanwhile, where the supreme Alpha was standing, his face was set hard and cold, but it deliberately softened a little when Laila hugged him so everyone could see and still believe that nothing had changed, that he still favoured her despite the marriage.

Sebastian was in a particularly foul mood today, sex deprived and running on nothing but the cold shower he had taken the night before after pleasuring himself, and despite how desperately his body needed release, not even Laila’s scent or the way she had pressed herself against him had stirred so much as a flicker of interest in him.

None of the guests here could target Laila, for they all knew who she was and the connections she carried. But his little hellcat was a different story. It would be easy for them to come for her since she had no known background to make them fear her, especially when they believed she didn’t have his backing.

Despite how his body fought him against holding Laila, and despite Muffin literally repeating "Eww, Eww" in his head, he still kept his arm at her waist as she complained to him about things he couldn’t care less about, his eyes continuously trained on the entrance, waiting for when his wife would walk in. What was keeping her this late?

Didn’t she know that the longer she kept these important people waiting, the more they would dislike her and make things harder for her? And no matter how much he might have wanted to help her, she would have to earn their respect herself, or they would think it easy to walk all over her.

Sebastian’s eyes fell on a man approaching him from among the guests he had made it clear he didn’t want to have any discussions with today, and then he lowered his head to whisper into Laila’s ear.

"Give me a few minutes. I need to talk with Doctor Gilbert about Zoe." He removed his arm from her waist and began to move, but Laila grabbed his sleeve, pursing her lips.

"You are spoiling Zoe way too much, Seb. Did you know she spoke to me very rudely a little while ago? You should—" Laila’s words got stuck in her throat when Sebastian’s eyes darkened and then narrowed down at her. She knew how much he cared about his sister, but she just couldn’t stand the girl or tolerate her rotten attitude, especially when she didn’t even carry a strong wolf.

"You don’t have the right to tell me how to treat my sister, Laila. No one gave you the the fucking right to lecture me about her." He warned her, not wanting her to think it was acceptable to harbour a dislike for his sister, before his little bratty sister also became a target. He cared about Zoe far more than he ever let on, and a single hair being touched on her head would not be taken lightly.

Laila realized her mistake. She was crossing into dangerous borderline territory when she hadn’t yet taken the title of his Luna and wife. She took his arm and smiled. "I am sorry. It’s just that I get jealous seeing how she always hangs around that wolfless. I want to get to know Zoe better, that’s all. I hope she will give me a chance."

Sebastian’s dark eyes relaxed and he pulled his arm free from her grasp as he said, "If you want Zoe to like you, you have to work on your attitude first, Laila." Saying that, he walked past her to meet Doctor Gilbert halfway, and Laila gritted her teeth, belatedly realizing he hadn’t even said a single word about her complaints regarding the wolfless who had disrespected her!

What had come over Sebastian lately?
