Evading the Hero’s Party with Full Effort

Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Ch.2 Buy a Ship Right Now! I’ll Give You 3 Days

Inside the carriage heading to the trading company.

It’s been eight years since I arrived here. Quite a bit of time has passed.

Where is ‘here’, you ask? This is ‘Destiny’, the game I enjoyed the longest in my real life.

Destiny was a free-form RPG that gained worldwide popularity.

A game that seemed to have created a vast world.

Players could take on any character within it—from the son of a penniless serf to the emperor who possessed everything.

Endless possibilities and boundless freedom.

An open-world system where players chose from countless professions to live in a fantasy world, coupled with rich stories that easily captivated my young heart and thrilling hidden narratives—I couldn’t help but become addicted to this game.

Moreover, installing new mods allowed for even more dynamic gameplay, ensuring I never grew tired of playing for a long time.

For a full ten years.

And that wasn’t all. In Destiny, every character had their own unique backstory.

Just like our lives.

Just as we live carrying various stories, I explored and unraveled the individual circumstances and secrets of the characters in this game as I played.

Well… I’ve even played as the son of an ordinary serf who eventually unified the continent as emperor, and as the one-armed son of a common merchant who became a dragon slayer and married the imperial princess—I was a player so rotten I’d practically fossilized.

—Screeech!

As I continued lost in thought,

“Baron Pisa, we’ve arrived at the trading company.”

The carriage stopped, and the driver called out to me from his seat.

“Thank you, Giovanni.”

Stepping out of the carriage, I saw a grand, medieval-style building.

This was the Pisa Trading Company, which I founded.

It was called the company that amassed the greatest wealth on the continent.

Well… for someone as rotten as me, this was easy.

I could have earned even more, but if I monopolized everything, it might negatively impact the economy and draw the attention of nobles or even the emperor, so I deliberately accumulated only a moderate level of wealth.

After all, I didn’t want anything to interfere with enjoying life.

Entering the building, I saw many people gathered in the spacious lobby.

“Has the chairman arrived?”

Casually acknowledging the greetings from the company executives bowing to me, I headed to my office.

On the antique desk in my office lay four letters.

“Huh?”

It’s been quite a while since I last saw these.

Letters from the members of the Hero party who went to the demon realm.

“Hmm…”

Patron, Master, Priest, Sage.

Though the addressees on the four letters were different, they were all addressed to my aliases.

“Should I let them slay the Demon King soon and then make my exit?”

The Hero party had already grown strong enough to defeat the Demon King, but I’d deliberately kept them farming near the Demon King’s castle.

Why, you ask?

I had supported the Hero party wholeheartedly, materially and emotionally, to help them defeat the Demon King.

I did this thinking it would help them defeat the Demon King faster, but they seemed to interpret it differently—talking about marrying me after defeating the Demon King or urging me to accept their confessions.

I never expected they’d take it as flirting…

Once they slay the Demon King, the Hero party will come looking for me.

I’m currently preparing to flee to the New Continent with the money I’ve earned here.

Converting my scattered assets here into cash and moving to the New Continent will take quite some time.

I should start disposing of this trading company and my territory soon.

With that thought, I opened and read the letter sent by the Hero Scarlet.

“Huh…?”

Th-this… this is strange? This can’t be right?

Thinking I must have misread it, I hurriedly tore open the other letters.

From Leah, the mage of the Hero party:

Master, I’ve finally slain the Demon King and can come see you.

Similarly, from Cecilia, the saint of the Hero party:

Father Hans, I’ve finally defeated the Demon King who threatened humanity. I’ll see you soon.

And even from Mia, the elf princess of the Hero party:

O Sage, you have saved humanity.

“No! Why are they doing things I didn’t tell them to do?!”

I clearly told them to grind dungeons to level up before defeating the Demon King!

Why did they suddenly decide to kill the Demon King on their own?

Then it hit me—this was no time to be confused.

“Crap… this is bad! Giovanni!”

I urgently called for Giovanni, and a man in his early twenties entered, opening the door.

“Chairman, what on earth…?”

Seeing my panicked state, Giovanni, still disoriented, asked,

“What’s going on that you’re in such a panic?”

“We need to run away now! Convert everything that can be liquidated into cash immediately! Hurry!”

As I urged him frantically, Giovanni gave me a puzzled look.

“What on earth has happened to make you this frantic?”

“The… the Demon King is dead. Now the Hero party will come after me.”

I need to escape immediately.

There’s no way those women will let me, a man with four legs, off easy.

They’ll tear me to shreds.

I must flee to the New Continent before that happens.

No, wait. Calm down.

Since I received the letters today, they must have arrived at the nearest village in the demon realm.

If they sent the letters from that village…

I calculated how long it would take for them to reach the capital.

Three days? Five days? That’s all the time I have left.

Within that time, I must convert whatever I can into cash and get it to the New Continent.

If I fail…

The image of my future self being torn to shreds made me shake my head frantically.

“Um, Chairman, wouldn’t it be better to just explain the situation to the Hero party members?”

At that, I briefly thought about them.

If one were to pick the four craziest women in the original story, they’d probably be these four.

Broken Hero Scarlet.

In the original story, she suffers absurdly harsh trials.

Feared for her power by the emperor and nobles, hated by the families of those killed by demons, she becomes mentally worn down and broken, eventually becoming the final boss in the DLC.

Psychopath Leah.

Abused by her insane master, she harbors extreme misandry.

She’s so mentally unhinged that she’ll cheerfully burn a man to death for accidentally bumping into her on the street.

Obsessive Saint Cecilia.

Despite being a saint, her obsession is extreme—not just intense, but outright pathological.

Having lived only within the convent, she knows little of the outside world.

The only world she’s been exposed to is the romance novels secretly circulated within the convent.

Was it those novels that warped her? Or was it her innate nature?

She holds a grotesquely distorted view of love, far removed from reality.

For example, if she frequently talks to another woman, that woman will later be found dead in a back alley.

And the most dangerous character is…

Human Skin Collector Mia.

In the past, after her mother, the elf queen, was killed due to the betrayal of mercenaries hired by the elf kingdom, this high elf developed an extreme hatred for humans.

Thus, her hobby became the refined pastime of torturing ‘treacherous humans’ and collecting their skins.

Of course, things may have changed now that the story has diverged significantly from the original, but I absolutely detest such dangerous women.

“No way! How could they possibly spare me?”

My original plan was this:

When I first arrived here, I checked whether the Hero was male or female.

If male, Theon.

If female, Scarlet.

If the Hero was male, one could easily defeat the Demon King even as a beginner, as long as they had a sturdy tank and decent party members. But if the Hero was female, the difficulty skyrocketed.

Scarlet could deal immense damage, but she was also hard to control and difficult to build a team around.

While Saint Cecilia was essential regardless of whether the Hero was Theon or Scarlet, the other party members had to be chosen based on the Hero’s gender.

Thus, I desperately hoped for Theon—lower difficulty, easier to defeat the Demon King.

The idea of living in a world where the Hero lost to the Demon King?

How terrifying is that?

But reality, casually crushing my desperate hopes, gave me Scarlet.

I was deeply worried that this world might be doomed because of it.

No joke.

When I first played as Scarlet, I died countless times—she’s that fragile.

Fortunately, being the rotten player I am, I knew that with the optimal team composition, defeating the Demon King would be a breeze.

I immediately began laying the groundwork to assemble Scarlet’s standard team.

A strategy to build rapport by resolving each of their personal issues.

To do this, I first needed to approach Scarlet, as she was the core member of the Hero party.

Finding her wasn’t difficult—I was, after all, the chairman of a fairly large trading company at the time.

When I finally found Scarlet, I couldn’t hide my disappointment.

Contrary to my expectations, despite having drawn the Holy Sword, she couldn’t even clear ‘The Mage Tower’s Trial’, a tutorial-style dungeon.

To help her, I posed as a ‘patron’, sending her dungeon guides via letter to earn her favor.

For Leah, I exploited her trauma regarding her master.

Jealous of Leah’s unparalleled genius, her master had tormented her—I drove him away and took his place as her master.

For Cecilia, ignorant about romance, I bribed the Vatican heavily to obtain an honorary priest title and approached her that way.

For Mia, I informed her of the mercenaries’ betrayal and helped her exterminate them together, earning her trust.

Thus, I assembled the team of Scarlet, Leah, Cecilia, and Mia.

The so-called ‘Resilmi’ team.

Normally, if composed with the male Hero Theon, the ‘Resilmi’ team becomes a hell party due to Leah and Mia. But if composed with the female Hero Scarlet, it becomes an overwhelmingly powerful team.

Tank and secondary DPS: Mia, who commands spirits.

When facing large groups requiring heavy firepower: Leah, the supreme fire mage.

For raids: Scarlet.

And the indispensable all-purpose healer with immense buffs and healing: Saint Cecilia.

But because they moved faster than I anticipated, a problem has now erupted.

I urged Giovanni,

“Sh-ships? Do we have ships to the New Continent?”

At my words, Giovanni gave me an incredulous, bewildered look.

“What? How long has it been since the Demon King died? Do you really think there are ships heading to the New Continent?”

The New Continent, unlocked after defeating the Demon King and purchasing the DLC.

In this world, when the New and Old Continents began trading, the Demon King appeared, spawning demons in the sea.

This naturally severed contacts between the continents, which only resumed after the Demon King’s death.

I had planned to immediately move to the New Continent after the Demon King’s death to live a peaceful life, but they’ve thrown a massive wrench into my plans.

“Th-then we need to buy a ship! What are you waiting for? Buy a ship immediately! I’ll give you three days. Somehow, secure passage to the New Continent!”

Otherwise, I’ll be torn apart.

“Chairman… please calm down. Do you really think it’s easy to buy a ship capable of reaching the New Continent? Why not just fight them? Aren’t you quite formidable yourself?”

When I arrived here, I monopolized all the dangerous artifacts.

After all, Destiny included dangerous items designed for concept players.

It was only natural that I took them.

A revolver called ‘Equality’, capable of killing anyone with a single shot.

The ‘Goddess’s Wedding Ring’, capable of resurrecting anyone as long as they’re not truly dead.

And so on…

In the game, one could indulge in insane concept plays as much as they wanted, but this place is another reality where I live.

If such dangerous artifacts were allowed to circulate, the world would descend into chaos.

How horrifying is that?

Anyway, since I’ve monopolized the dangerous artifacts, I could deal with them…

But the problem is, killing them would complicate things further.

After the Demon King’s death, the new main story begins.

To clear the DLC ‘Dragon War’, where dragons invade, and the DLC ‘King of the Dead’, where hordes of zombies, death knights, and liches swarm, it’s advantageous for them to remain alive.

In other words… killing them would be tantamount to absurdly increasing the game’s difficulty.

“No. No way. You must buy a ship no matter what! Pay extra if you have to, but get me a ship!”
