Evading the Hero’s Party with Full Effort

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Ch.1 Prologue

On a dark night, four women gathered around a campfire.

Who would believe that they are called the Hero party, the hope of humanity?

Generally, one might think of a Hero party as consisting of burly men, but this Hero party is composed entirely of delicate and beautiful women.

Each of them possesses a distinctive charm—beauty, cuteness, purity, nobility.

If men were to see these women, each radiating a different allure, they would be unable to sleep easily, as if struck by lovesickness.

Yet, despite their exquisite beauty, these women had just slain the Demon King, humanity’s enemy, and were now resting after finishing their dinner.

Scarlet, the beauty with gray hair, took out a carefully folded letter from her bosom and began to read it.

‘Finally, I can meet you again.’

With her mysterious aura, slender face, and petite red lips, who would ever think this woman is the Hero who saved humanity?

Though her slender figure and occasionally sharp eyes might appear fierce, even that look exudes a cold charm that stirs the hearts of countless men.

Now, she spread paper over her blanket and began writing with a pencil, intending to send the joyful news of having slain the Demon King to her patron.

To my beloved patron, she wrote the opening line, then continued:

I’ve finally slain the Demon King, Patron.

‘Is this a bit too stiff?’

As Scarlet lightly bit her pencil, pondering, a woman with slightly curly, short red hair peeked at the letter and began giggling.

Though draped in a long robe, she seemed unlikely to exceed 160cm in height. Her noticeably smaller frame compared to other women her age made her appear even cuter.

“Scarlet, you’re writing a letter to that ‘Patron’ of yours right after slaying the Demon King? You’re such a romantic.”

Scarlet lifted her head and replied,

“Leah, don’t you think this sounds a bit stiff?”

At that, the woman named Leah shook her head.

“Seriously, just write casually! Aren’t you two dating anyway?”

“Ahh… we’re not officially dating yet. But now that I’ve slain the Demon King, I’m planning to confess.”

At Scarlet’s words, a woman with a gentle face who had been lying on the blanket trying to sleep lifted her head. Her lush platinum-blonde hair rippled over her priestess robes.

“Wow! Are you really going to confess?!”

Seeing the woman sit up excitedly, Leah responded,

“No wonder—she acts like a saint who spent her whole life in a convent, yet gets super excited whenever romance comes up.”

“Hehe… Leah, for your information, I actually have a fiancé with whom I’ve promised my future. Unlike someone who secretly pines for her master in a creepy way.”

Cecilia, the platinum-haired saint, smiled faintly as she spoke, as if proudly declaring her victory.

At that, Leah bristled.

“No way! It’s not creepy! And my master likes me too!”

“Yes, yes, of course.”

At that moment, another woman lying on the blanket sat up and said,

“Sorry, but could you please be quiet so I can sleep?”

A beauty with long golden hair. Despite her dazzling appearance, anyone who noticed her unusually long ears would immediately recognize her as an elf.

Of course, given that she’s part of a Hero party, she’s certainly no ordinary elf.

“Mia! You say something too! Is unrequited love creepy?”

At Leah’s words, the high elf named Mia shook her head.

“I heard you confessed before joining the party, and he promised to date you if you returned after slaying the Demon King.”

Leah nodded.

“Exactly! So I’m not creepy. He promised to date me if I killed the Demon King. Cecilia, aren’t you the one forcing that priest into being your boyfriend by exploiting your position as a saint?”

Hearing this, Cecilia exploded.

“What did you say? No way! Father Hans was the one who confessed to me first!”

Upon hearing the name ‘Father Hans’, Scarlet spoke up about something she’d been wondering for a while.

“…Wait a minute. Come to think of it, isn’t Leah’s master also named Hans?”

Leah nodded at Scarlet’s words.

“Yeah, I was so shocked when I first found out the priest Cecilia’s dating is also named Hans.”

“Same here. Leah, why do you like a man with the same name as my boyfriend?”

Scarlet had a sudden thought.

‘Wouldn’t it be funny if they were the same person?’

The genius mage Leah, who handles the party’s firepower, and Cecilia, the saint chosen by the gods, both liking the same man…

Just imagining it made Scarlet find it amusing.

After all, nothing is as entertaining as a love triangle.

“Hehe…”

Leah and Cecilia had always played the role of mood-makers in the party, bickering playfully. But if they both liked the same person… Scarlet wanted to sit back with popcorn and watch them fight.

‘Watching fights and fires is always fun.’

But perhaps Scarlet’s laughter annoyed them?

Leah and Cecilia turned their heads sharply and glared at Scarlet.

“But why are you laughing, Scarlet?”

“Why are you laughing, Lady Scarlet?”

Meeting their intense gazes, Scarlet hesitated, wondering if she should voice what she was thinking.

“Well, I just thought it would be fun if you both liked the same person.”

Apparently, Mia shared Scarlet’s thought, as she voiced exactly what Scarlet had been thinking.

“Ugh… the idea that I share the same taste as this idiot? Ugh… just thinking about it disgusts me.”

“Likewise. And how magnificent is Father Hans’s divine power? How dare you compare him to some obscure mage?”

At that, Leah bristled and retorted,

“How amazing do you think my master is? He casts spells without incantations and defeats even the strongest foes faster than light. How dare you compare him to some priest who only has divine power?”

Pop—veins visibly bulged on Cecilia’s forehead.

“What did you say? Are you done talking?”

“Yeah, I’m done!”

Seeing this, Mia sighed and said,

“This is why short-lived races… If you’re going to fight, go far away from the campsite!”

At Mia’s firm words, the two stood up and headed toward the campsite.

“Apologize for disrespecting my Father Hans!”

“Hmph! You were the one who disrespected my master first!”

As their bickering faded into the distance, Scarlet asked Mia,

“Mia, what will you do now? Will you go look for that ‘sage’?”

Mia nodded gently and replied,

“Yes, of course. An elf’s vow is a heavy matter.”

“Didn’t you say he’s the benefactor of the elves?”

Mia nodded.

“Yes, that’s right.”

Then she closed her eyes, as if recalling memories shared only between them.

“But what if that person is already dead?”

At Scarlet’s question, Mia tilted her head and replied,

“Why would he be dead?”

“Well, if he’s a sage, isn’t he supposed to be an old man?”

“Pfft… no way. He’s probably around your age, Scarlet.”

Scarlet’s face was filled with confusion.

‘Mia never talks about herself much… I assumed sage meant a 60-year-old old man…’

In truth, Scarlet had never understood why Mia, who vowed to give herself to this sage, found him so appealing.

After all, the word ‘sage’ naturally conjures the image of an elderly man, right?

Thus, the thought was so unpleasant that she never dared to ask further.

Scarlet was a woman who respected her friend’s tastes, after all.

‘Anyway, today is the last day, so it doesn’t matter.’

“We’ve heard a lot about Leah and Cecilia’s love stories, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard yours, Mia. How did you meet this ‘sage’?”

Mia smiled faintly and replied,

“The sage… saved our kingdom when it was in crisis.”

Mia, lost once again in her memories, continued,

“He discovered the plot of the mercenaries we hired to fight the demons—they intended to sell us as slaves—and warned us in advance.”

Mia seemed exhilarated now that she could finally share her story.

‘Somehow, I feel this is going to be a long story…’

Scarlet didn’t realize how much Mia had wanted to join in whenever the party members talked about their love lives and share her own story.

Of course, it wasn’t that she’d never tried. Everyone simply stopped asking after learning that the person she loved was a ‘sage’, as if opening Pandora’s box.

They all assumed she had peculiar tastes and avoided the topic out of respect.

“But our foolish selves ignored his warning. In the end, he personally intervened, saving us with spellcasting so fast it was hard to follow with the eye and divine power so radiant it could steal one’s soul.”

Magic and divine power are opposing forces, impossible for one person to wield simultaneously.

Scarlet grew curious at this seemingly world-law-defying feat.

“But isn’t it impossible to use both magic and divine power together?”

Mia nodded.

“Yes, that’s precisely why he’s called a sage.”

Scarlet’s face remained filled with question marks.

‘What does being called a sage have to do with using both magic and divine power?’

Though she thought this, she didn’t want to rudely interrupt her friend, so she stayed silent.

“And then he said to me, ‘Are you alright?’ Kyaa!”

Seeing Mia, who always acted aloof and dismissive of humans, scream like a maiden, Scarlet found it hard to adjust.

“S-so… how did you end up making the vow to ‘give yourself’ to him?”

Among the elves’ unique customs is the ‘Elven Vow’ to give oneself to another.

Receiving such a vow is an immense blessing.

No matter what anyone says… Mia is beautiful and never ages.

Moreover, due to elven nature, even if her partner dies, she will never forget them and will live alone for the rest of her life.

Scarlet, naturally, found such a romantic vow intriguing.

“That’s something I won’t tell you. He’s too wonderful, so I want to keep it to myself. Now, I’m going to sleep, so you should sleep early too, Scarlet.”

Watching Mia disappear into her blanket, Scarlet shook her head and resumed writing her letter.

We are still getting along well today. Leah says she’ll head to her master’s place, and I plan to stop by my hometown before meeting you, my patron, in the capital.

Up to that point, Scarlet paused, then added what her patron had previously requested—stories about the party members.

Cecilia says she’ll resign from her position as saint to marry her boyfriend this time, and Mia says she’s heading to meet the young man called the sage, to whom she made a marriage vow.

Scarlet wrote with a happy smile.

But did she know?

That the patron, priest, master, and sage—all the men they longed to meet—were, in fact, the same person.
