Chapter 931 - 930 - New Perspectives
Chapter 931 - 930 - New Perspectives
Romana was nearly recovered thanks to Lind. Her last memory was taking a spear to the heart and feeling a burning sensation spread through her veins. She had known she was going to die but her vision saw the heavily injured Valkyrie light up like a sun and knew she would be dying with her.
She had not expected to ever open her eyes again and in a real sense she did not.
The teasing and flirtatious pink haired young woman was in her memory but the current her was far more reserved.
Her original body had been a typical human striving on their cultivation path but then got frustrated by their bottleneck and settled into their role as a Warder.
The next one had been full of life and hope at a second chance. She had wrung every experience from life and risen in the ranks of the Heavenly Maiden Sect.
She was currently looking in a mirror at her much taller body and silver hair. Her eyes were a dark brown but also looked off to her. She was not sure why but her skin was deep cream without any makeup on at all.
Her height had been 1.5 meters but now she was almost 2!
Her body was also far more muscled compared to before. It was not obscene but if she was to fight her old self, her old self would be overpowered without any hope of resistance!
Her speed was nearly inhuman which mystified her. Her body was definitely human but exceeded even the standards most Immortals had. She was also firmly in the peak of mid Shard Tier too.
She no longer felt a bottleneck at all.
A chime sounded to let her know someone was at her tent entrance. Most of the buildings were still damaged or being rebuilt. She prioritized healing warehouses and getting their ability to store supplies so they would not let anything go to waste.
The number of injured and dead was staggering but what made it more horrific was the Heavenly Maiden Sect came out as one of the best! The power of those assassins was not small!
She recalled how fearsome the slim human had been against her. The aura was weaker but they had no care for their lives so long as they could kill their target!
The Divine Sword Sect had fared about as well as them but their Sect Master survived yet they lost far more Immortals.
The Hellfire Sect was seemingly broken as none of their Immortals survived. The other powers were in worse shape but oddly the Fiends had not tried to expand their sphere of influence.
It was a devastating attack but it seemed to cost the Fiends as much as it hurt them. The one power that stood unaffected in their allies was the Frey Clan.
They had been attacked as well, but compared to anyone else there practically unscathed. A few injuries but nothing permanent.
Other powers much farther away reported no issue but were already taking actions as recommended by the Frey Clan. The 6 elemental weavers were working day and night but were being given all the resources they needed without question.
"Come in." Romana's voice was deeper but still very pleasant. A slip of an aether child girl came in. She was only at the Sky Realm but that was all they really had to spare at the moment.
Her black and blue skin was stark against her pristine white robes.
"True Lord Frey had finished his rounds. He also headed directly to the Fiend area. It was–complicated." Her face twisted but Romana smirked a bit. Despite her change in personality, she felt a flare up when people found it hard to discuss Lind's current actions.
"What did he do?" The young girl produced a jade slip that Romana took before dismissing her.
She sunk her senses into it and felt floored as she saw a projection in her head.
Lind was in his full dragon form and laying waste to the Fiends with emerald flames! He was not being random either. He seemed to know exactly where they were hiding! He must have had his intelligence network work without rest to rip up every piece of information in just 2 weeks!
Facilities were exposed where more of those assassins were being created but she noticed the numbers reported in the text engravings.
"Only Heaven Realms? Did they use up all their Immortal Realm bodies?" She did not know but the cultivators would likely examine it deeply.
The most shocking part came right after that first display.
An Immortal Fiend she knew well, Mycea, suddenly appeared with many corpses. They were all Fiends. She tossed them at Lind and then bowed!
[This was not our plot. The young paid the price and all the evidence you need is there.]
The woman quickly left as Lind was not really listening. Romana frowned.
The summation of the results were clear. There were indeed Immortal Fiends that had plotted to launch the complex attack but also tried to circumvent the Shard Tiers as they wanted all the resources for themselves.
That did not match the results.
The attack was devastating but no bodies were missing. In fact, all the assassins had died to the best of her knowledge.
Lind included his own thoughts at that point.
[The Fiends are united but their followers are not. I suspect one of the lower powers was delivering the assassins but then activated them early. There was no benefit to the unprepared Fiends. There is, however, massive benefit to many powers now.]
Romana pulled her senses back and gently touched the golden emblem on her right breast. She was the new Sect Master as decreed by Valkyrie's will and the handful of Elders that survived.
She contemplated the new information before a new slip appeared in her hand. She quickly reviewed it but then smirked at what she was doing.
"You knew, old woman. You knew what kind of person I was and that was why you chose me." Romana had been an explorer in her second body but that also made her ideal for intelligence analysis.
She was often consulted for current events and actions in the shadows. Now she was using her skills to see how to protect the sect directly, not just reporting it up the food chain.
She took a moment to contemplate several pieces but no power had been spared. The assassins' power struck all but not equally. The Frey Clan was too damn far so it was more surgical. Even if they had succeeded, it was likely that the Clan still would have crushed them with little loss of life.
The 2 odd points that struck her was what Lind already knew. The assassins had very intimate knowledge of the Clan that was recent enough to include the 9 current contenders for being an heir after nearly 60 years of trials.
The key points to strike as well were limited, yet even with spies they got that exact number of assassins to the Frey Clan relatively quickly.
The other point was a similar level of knowledge to the various powers. An intelligence network of that extent and power was not easy to maintain or hide.
Sympathizers or spies were everywhere. All cultivators knew if they were inside a power of any level, some kind of spying was going on.
Yet, to have that kind of precision with no one noticing required a rather impressive mental ability beyond most cultivation realms. Immortals could do it easily but few would associate with the Fiends in the present time.
The powers ascending from the Heaven Realm lands were still heavily treated with caution from the former Alliance members, especially after the fiasco of the border powers being nearly wiped out.
It should have made things harder for such an attack, yet here she was picking it apart.
"The Belnath Consortium." The words flowed from her lips but her eyes narrowed as she examined the thought. They were considered a medium level power but it was not exactly accurate to consider them a power at all.
They were an alliance of auction houses and other guilds that worked to increase their business empire.
They had considerable resources and while they had a handful of low Sliver Tier Immortals, they were mostly led by peak Sun Tiers.
They were also frustrated by the restrictions placed on them to improve their products with proven changes to elemental theory and production methods.
Lind Frey had simply raised the bar too high for inferior products to thrive but it was expensive to change and some old monsters refused to think their efforts were wasted.
So why had she thought of them?
The slip glowed once more and she slowly smiled.
"Stop looking at the trees and see the forest." She was usually so hyper focused on individuals that she overlooked their place in the greater whole.
Lind was a genius.
While there were many groups and powers that had whole divisions devoted to making elixirs, formations, and so forth, very few were like the Frey Clan and Belnath Consortium. It was similar to how Cimmeria had grown under the Stardust Emporium despite the many wars on the 3 continents in the mortal realm.
The Stardust Emporium was neutral. War was good for business but they made sure to stay out of it so they were heavily trusted.
The Frey Clan had a similar reputation.
The Belnath Consortium, however, had a few nasty chapters in their history where they shook up the peace of their area to get some extra profit moving! They got caught but were too powerful to be eliminated as no one could take up their mantle!
It was not the same in the Celestial Fields but she felt strongly she had found the weak link in the chain! The attacks on the consortium seemed bad but they only targeted the martial side of it! The production side, which was targeted at every other power, was left untouched!
[Lind, I think I found the source!] She sent the message and felt his surprise but stated he was on his way. Romana stood up and summoned her Elders. It was time to reveal the truth!
