Eternal Emerald Dragon

Chapter 916 - 915 - Immortal Charms

Chapter 916 - 915 - Immortal Charms

Lind was cultivating in his quarters when his eyes snapped open. A part of his mind was grabbing his attention and he focused on it.

The room fell away as a dark sky greeted him over the light crystals lining the streets of Rasker. He recognized it by the waterfall but he ignored it as he quickly adjusted to the fact he was looking at it from several vantage points.

How many had been activated?

He sorted quickly and was glad everything seemed to work as intended but then his eyes narrowed as a young man and woman covered in blood came into view.

Hylan and Rylie?!

He felt something trying to break his power and he sneered.

"Dispersal artifacts? Like that will work against me!" The concept was simple. An artifact in some small shape or easily held size would disperse loose Qi in the air.

World Realms and above could find their Arts become incredibly difficult to use to active formations being destroyed.

It was a tricky thing to make for obvious reasons. The artifact would disrupt its own functions if made improperly.

Even he, with Forging and weaving to play with, found it very difficult to make such things.

What was going on now, however, was Immortal Charms activating.

Immortals, due to their unique existence compared to other cultivators, could imbue their will into items prepared in advance. Most of those were given to descendants or other important people to protect them.

Long ago, he had issued charms to his family and many friends but none had ever triggered until right then.

One difference he made to the charms was a live connection. Rather than isolating a part of his soul, he tied the charms to his mind and soul. He was one of the very few beings that could do that since he could make them.

Forgers were able to make the charms but that was all. Imbuing was up to each Immortal after that. The effects also hinged on the quality of the charm.

A grade 6 charm could withstand an Immortal will but only 1 time and usually an omnidirectional attack or defense that no one could control. Effective but risky due to many scenarios where allies could be hurt as well as enemies.

Grade 7, obviously, could do far more but Immortals then had to choose the effects. The charms usually could break down after several uses or be burned all up at once if certain conditions met.

Immediate threat of death would be the most common but Lind found a new way to use the charms.

He could Forge them and then use weaving to actually link it to him. There were still automatic responses but then he could channel his own mind into them remotely!

He could not activate them on his own, but only when the conditions were met to trigger the charms.

"There are 5 charms triggered but they are in the most danger." He prioritized what was happening and realized Hylan's charm had triggered the others. His soul had analyzed the threats and activated them all!

He saw the dregs of the isolation formations and noted all of the attackers were using demonic cloaks to blend into the shadows but were not demons themselves!

He reached out through his connection and merged all 5 dragon charms into 1. Normally, all he could do was view the scene and maybe regulate the flow of Qi to let the charm work long enough for allies to arrive.

With 5 of them going off, however, he could do far more.

He felt like his mind was able to more firmly reach out and he was able to grasp all that had happened.

Hylan had nearly died saving Rylie. Thea had been on a date when she watched her date die! Julia was at home relaxing when her home was burned to the ground! Kyren was in the best shape as she had worked late and simply slept in her office.

The formations protected her but an assassin got inside to try and kill her.

They had coordinated their attacks! He quickly scanned the city and felt his rage spike as corpses were everywhere! They had gotten past defenses, guards, and even just other life saving measures important people had.

[You will all die!] The projections could not endure his full power. He could, however, do something else just as powerful as being there.

He looked up and the sky rumbled with thunder as Rasker felt horrifying levels of power gather above them.

[Storm Art: Lightning Dance.] His words boomed and was followed by blinding light across the city.

Citizens cowered but none were struck. None of the buildings were damaged but all felt the tremor of power in their bones.

Lind felt the charms fracture but was able to confirm all his targets were struck.

He could not do anything from where he was and the charms could not withstand anymore from him. He could not even heal people but he sent out a message.

[Soltara, there has been a coordinated attack on Rasker. I have exhausted my charms, please help them.]

He felt her confirmation before his rooms returned to his senses.

He summoned a jade stone to send orders and warn Ethry about what happened. Hei would fly off for certain if he told him so he would leave it to her.

He then closed his mind and reviewed the memories from his connection to the charms.

It was a feature he built into them to send all the information leading up to the attack that triggered them. It was initiated by attacks around the owner. Spikes in Qi or Laws can reveal what someone intends so the charms were tied to that.

He saw the various attackers but nothing stood out to identify them other than being human. The cloaks were artifacts that allowed the cultivator to benefit from shadow Qi from demons.

It was not like the ones he created to generate or convert Qi, but just put out a predetermined effect of blending with existing shadows.

The skill to make that was very high end yet he never heard of it. His fingers glowed as he quickly tried to replicate it with a piece of cloth in his room.

It was Forged and engraved in a few breaths and sort of worked but not to the level he had seen in the imprint. Still, it gave him some clues about what he needed to look for.

[Shoti, do you have the report on the Golden God Alchemy Sect?] Given the timing and location, he had to assume it was related.

He felt her positive response but she was coming closer to him. It seemed Ethry had relayed what had just happened.

He dove back into the imprints and noticed a few faces but none were recognized by him.

Shoti entered with a grim face before sitting next to him.

"We had only just confirmed some spies that seemed related but we had no idea they could do things like this." He nodded as well. The blatant attitude of the men Hei fought did not strike him as capable of pulling off that kind of attack.

"The charms only gave me an artifact to look for and a few faces. They knew how to hide for damn sure." She nodded at his words before they discussed the next steps.

It was a clear threat but unlike Fiends, it was not so easy to pick out an enemy from a crowd. It was also complicated by the political issues they now lived in.

The fracturing Alliance was barely holding on and many were just looking for an excuse to break apart. Rising powers from places in the Heaven Realm lands that never experienced the war were the actual trigger the Frey Clan expected to bring about the final collapse.

The current issues in Rasker were clear signs the rising powers were not holding back anymore. They would not accept the dominance of powers far across the realm.

The massive size of the Celestial Fields were impossible to rule under a single or even group of powers no matter how much they wished.

The last few thousand years were simply about rebuilding and settling down. Now, with treasures and the world coming back, ambitions were on the rise.

If Lind acted unilaterally once more, there would be even more harsh backlashes from all those that he interacted with.

"I will head out with Fey and we will look into–" He held up his hand to stop her.

"We can't send you 2. In fact, we can't send anyone. The charms are one thing as I am allowed to give them to anyone but I already pushed things from before. Hei can go. If anyone from his generation wants to help, I will not stop them but we cannot interfere just yet." They had just berated him for acting like the old days.

They were not just protecting their friends anymore but the entirety of Frey City. They were not the current generation anymore and they had to let those move for the moment. If they interfered, it would invite old monsters across the realm to do the same.

It frustrated him but it was true too.

"Keep an eye on the situation and make sure he takes new charms for everyone." She nodded but he could see her frustration. If they moved, their enemies would as well and she grasped it.

Lind then made plans and gave a few more orders. He knew it was not over. Whoever attacked had a lot of resources behind them and he doubted they would leave Rasker in peace.
